  1. Still hasn't happened but I read the local paper a few months ago and talked to a guy in fisheries and it should be done before Xmas. They are currently building the concrete structures in Port Kembla. Also I was told that the artificial reefs in St Georges Basin took 1 month for the octopus's to come in and 6 months for algae, seaweed etc to be growing for baitfish and some reasonable fish. I think they were sending divers down every month for the first 6 months to see how things were going.
  2. Great report top fish. Must be a good guide with winds up still connecting to quality fish.
  3. Thanks Sharknett, It is a sit in that's why it is a bit more difficult. I'll have a look at what you have mentioned, thanks.
  4. Hi Guys, My son bought a single sea kayak and needs a couple of rod holders. It doesn't look like we can put flush ones in as he has said that they are too long (unless we cut them down). Also he doesn't like the screw on top rod holders. We cannot use the milk crate idea as there is no area behind him to put one. Are there any other alternatives like making a bracket that can just be put on each time he goes out? Any ideas would be great.
  5. Thanks guys, There are some great points you have mentioned. Agree that's a great primer bulb idea. I didn't want to keep a full tank so kept it low knowing that we were going on holidays for a month but then crap weather and a couple of other issued stop us getting the boat in the water. I only had the fuel filter replaced at the end of last year so that should not be an issue and I was advised to only use 98 so I do. 98 really cleans out your car engine as last summer I was filling up the car with 98 and getting jerry cans full for the boat. I then noticed that my car fuel economy increased even when I did use the ethonal mix a couple of times. I may just fill her up just before my next outing but will remember to put stabiliser in next year if not going to use for a couple of months. Thanks again for your replies.
  6. Thanks Stevefish, I always use premium 98 for the boat. The mower tin gets used regularly as my son does lawns for other people but we have never had a problem.
  7. I am not sure if a jiggle line will go that far. I thought about filling it completely or at least an extra 100 ltrs and after each trip refill. I've heard different stories with fuel, that its OK for a few month OK for up to a year depending on how it is kept. This is not pre mixed so should last longer. When I had a tinnie using pre mix I would get rid of any fuel after 4-6 weeks. I have a 140 Mercury about 10 years old. I am not that worried about using the old fuel for the car or mower (plenty of fuel for the other half) just not sure if I need to get rid of it and if so how is the best way to get it out of the boat.
  8. Hi Guys, A bit of a stupid question but my boat (only bought last year) hasn't had a run for almost 3 months now so I assume I need to get rid of the fuel (not pre mixed). Have about 25-30 ltrs in a 160 ltr tank. To remove the fuel, which is in an underfloor tank I assume I need to unscrew the floor and pump it out from there. There is no other way is there?
  9. My son just bought a kayak and my brother law gave me his so we are thinking of doing some freshwater fishing for trout and bass. I have heard Danjera is good for Bass and trout is stocked as well. Is this dam closed for fishing at the moment. Are there any parts better to fish than others and does anyone know other dams, lakes or rivers around the south coast Shoalhaven area that would also be good to target. Haven't done much freshwater but keen now that we have kayaks. Thanks in advance for any replies, any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Greg
  10. I think on the Friday night we went to bed too early as a mate of mine was there the weekend before and said that there were small ones around early then nothing until a few hours later and bigger ones came in and they did a couple of laps.
  11. We got squid near Flint & Steel. But there was a couple in Jerusalm that followed our baits but would not get onto a squid jig. I am not a big fish eater but I like Hairtail and all the people I give them to like the taste but last year a couple said too many bones. That is why I will only keep bigger ones in future.
  12. Went out last Thursday and Friday night fishing for Hairies at Jerusalem. Caught about 6 on Thursday night but they were only 1.1m and 1.2m. Don't like to keep any under about 1.4m as they do have a few bones. Friday night no hairtail but lots of phosphuros so not sure if this scares them. It was quite warm out there so maybe still a bit early but I had no choice nut to go when I did. Lots of bait fish including lots of garfish, never seen so many in the water. Also caught a couple of flathead 50cm, snapper 38cm, a small jew and a squid. So not too bad for this time of year I suppose. May try again in August otherwise next year will be able to fish at the right time.
  13. I thought that ramp was secure being in the National Park. Thought it would be better than Parsley Bay. I was going to use it next week and leave the car overnight, did it last year for 2 nights and no problems, now I have second thoughts. What time of night was it.
  14. Thanks for the info will give that a try next week.
  15. Do you stick to the western side of Pittwater for the squid? I am going up there in a couple of weeks time and haven't fished in there before with a boat.
  16. I am going up to the Hawkesbury in May for a couple of days. Is there any specific area in Pittwater to chase the Kings?
  17. Last year there were reports of Kingies being caught at Cottage Point and Waratah Bay. That's as far as I know of.
  18. Agree, if fully funded by rec fishers then should only be used for recreation purposes. We should have more spots available that are not commercially fished.
  19. Good king. They bigger ones love to reef you. It always seems to be the way with me, you catch the smaller kings on heavy line and the larger kings on light line. lost a lot of knife jigs this year so will fish with heavy gear for a while until I nail a bigger fish.

    Winch Strap

Hi Dave, No the boat was already on the trailer on dry land. I took it out yesterday and when we brought it back in and put it on the trailer the ratchet was not working. I found the pin sitting on the winch. Anyway got the boat on, tapped the pin back in but when we got home it was half way out. Looks like I need to flange it or put a split pin in. So I think it is still slipping as I cannot winch it up 100% tight.

    Winch Strap

Hi Guys, I just put a new winch strap on the trailer and noticed at the end when I pulled it up tight it is slipping against the weight of the boat. Is the strap too long or is this what happens when there first installed?
  22. They are all pretty good but I like no. 1 as well, I think because of the style of writing and I feel the whale first is better. Just my view.
  23. I live down here and I agree with the comments already made. Depending on the weather Middle Grounds would be first choice- snapper, kings and through January there were small Marlin caught. There were a few Marlin caught off the rocks at The Tubes (inside of the lighthouse north side) but you can't really fish too close there in a boat or you will cop abuse (sinkers & lures thrown at you). Also Target on the inside north side has had good snapper (haven't heard of anything recently). There are GPS marks on this site for Middle Grounds & live bait, Greg
  24. Hi Geoff, Sorry I didn't respond earlier. Yes it is an inboard pump and there is no scoop just a hole at the very bottom of the transom with a mesh guard over it. Can I still attach a scoop and if so what would be the best way? Greg
  25. Thanks guys, I cannot get photos until the weekend so will post them up then. The pump looks like it is going to be difficult to get to.
