  1. Hi Marky, Yes I do keep the pump running at speed and haven't had a problem before (but haven't been out in the rough conditions before). This set was done by the boat manufacturer Haines Hunter and the intake is on the transom right at the bottom. When I looked at the tank it was only about three quarters full of water. Maybe because of the bad chop and seas the intake was still coming out of the water.
  2. I have an inbuilt live bait tank in the boat. Last week we were out for the night and had the live bait tank running all night and into the next day (done this before without problems). In the morning it was still running but we went outside in fairly rough/choppy conditions and could only troll around for a couple of hours then headed back in and fished the river for a while. I then noticed that the bait tank wasn't working and the livies and a couple fish we had in there were dead. Thought that this may be a fuse or the pump had stopped working so the next day had a bit of a look around but turned it on and it worked again. Is this just a loose wire or did the pump over heat? Is there anything I can do to stop this in future?
  3. Wow that's pretty impressive for this time of year. Usually you may get the odd one or two, well done.
  4. There are a few good spots up to half an hour before Tathra that alluring is talking about in the Mimosa Rocks National Park. They are right on the beach and have little cut out camping areas and are supplied with firewood, no showers and some no toilets.
  5. Well done they are good to eat, after you get through their tough scales.
  6. Thanks guys and girls for the info, much appreciated.
  7. What is the best way to store beach worms to keep them alive? How long can they be kept alive for? Are they just as good if you freeze them? Thanks for any info.
  8. Were can you buy the Jitterbug Jigs. Is it only from NZ.
  9. We were there Monday night, only boat. My son got a 1.55m hairtail. No other signs this one just came in and smashed his bait and took off. No others were around. Previous night got 3 at 1.4m at Jerusalem Bay.
  10. Thanks Scratchie, had a look on Google etc. and it looks good, probably closer and easier than any others.
  11. Hi Guys, Wondering if you can help. I live on the South Coast and want to know what the best ramp is to use to fish for hairtail around Jerusalem & Waratah. We will stay over night for probably 2 nights so need something reasonably secure. Not worried about a fee. Also towing a larger boat 19ft so not sure about the winding steep roads done to Akuna Bay etc. I was told by a friend that the road to Parsley Bay is being worked on and is half cut off. Thanks.
  12. Check out Willy Weather it tells a different story. It seems to be the most accurate weather website.
  13. I use Fish Cal. It gives you the so called best times to fish and has a diary. I have only just started using the diary so not sure how good it is compared to others but seems fine to me. Greg
  14. Hi David, My mate was out there on the same day and said that it was mostly flat and glassy and then they came upon the washing machine area as well. He was trolling through this but couldn't keep up against the current so they decided to bring in the lines. He put his son on the wheel as he wound in the lines. As he was doing this a wave came out of nowhere that broached the boat. After that scare he looked behind to see another one coming and yelled at his son to hit the trottle and get the heck out of there. They were in 15 to 20 metres, he hasn't seen it that bad before especially being so calm in most other places but apparently this does happen from time to time with the current pushing to go over into deeper water ans usually happens on the western side of the banks going south. The lesson is you need to always be on the look out.
  15. Thanks guys. Special thanks to Huey. I will ask a dumb question is XD - 100 the engine oil, if so why this oil as the manual states TC W3 and I just bought some premium Quicksilver (brand Merc recommend). It got to over 60 kms at just on 5500RPMs. It has a Solas prop so does that sound OK.
  16. I bought a second hand boat and when I took it out yesterday I noticed that at times the motor might be running hot. When we were trolling at 8 to 10kms the temp gauge slowly went to just over half but then when I drove it at up to 30ks it went back down to under half. Then when I was in a 4 knot zone and it was not on the plane it went to just under 3/4 on the temp gaige. Also when I was flushing the motor the outflow was quite hot but seemed a reasonable flow. The motor is a Mercury 140 V6. I havn't had this brand of motor before so not sure if this is normal or signs the water pump is on its way out. Thanks.
  17. Just weighing up whether to buy a used boat with a 2002 Mercury 140 V6 or one with a 2007 Mercury 150 hp direct injection. I like the set up of the boat with the 140 and it is a few grand cheaper but the lure of fuel economy makes me think the DI is the best way to go. I will be using it to do offshore reef fishing and some trolling with the occaisional trip to the shelf (around 28ks out). Is there much difference in fuel economy?
  18. Were did you buy the jigs for $3, did you have to buy in bulk?
  19. I am looking at purchasing a used boat and was wondering how/who can you get to check out the motor/boat before you buy? Like an NRMA inspection on a car. Also how much does it cost? At this stage it could be in the western suburbs of Sydney. Thanks.
  20. It states that they are free trips up until the end of March. Do you know the costs after that?
  21. How long do you need to use the Saltaway while flushing the motor. Is it for the entire flush or just for a few seconds. Does it take much of the Saltaway when using an injector?
  22. Hi Guys, Sounds like a good product. Were can you but it from? I looked at a couple of retail outlets and they don't sell it but you can but it from Saltaway direct.

    Boat Advice

I have been looking at buying a second hand Trophy boat. Origanilly I looked at the 2002 walkaround but it maybe a bit big at 21ft. Then I looked at the 1802 walkaround, the boat looks great and reviews say that it has a lot of room but it doesn't have an anchor well and live bait well. Also a review I read stated that it wasn't that great in rough/choppy water (great when at rest). Maybe trim tabs can help here. I was just wondering if any raiders have any further info on the Trophy boats I mentioned (I like the walkarounds) or an equivilent 18 to 20 ft boat that may be just as good or better in your opinion.
  24. WOW that is huge, great fish mate. Great Christmas present. Obviously caught in the Hawkesbury
  25. Well done thats a good bag for the middle of the day. Were abouts in the river did you get them?
