  1. G'day Weiry, I use the same line as George, the Teeny TS-450, its a very good line. Its my only sinking line, so I dont know much else. It sinks at 8 ips, what does the 250 sink at? The 450 is 30 ft sinking and 70 ft floating, only used it in the tinny in the stripping bin, so no worries about getting tangles. The Peter Morse line sounds good, I'm in the market for a new line, but a intermediate for the 10 wt. The sinking line sure is effective in the burley trail, scored my first king with it a few months ago, had some very good days with kings and trevs since then. cheers
  2. Kevvie, I was tempted to pull out the sinking line, to try, but was having too much fun. Will give it a go next time. Weiry, come join me one day, its always fun fishing with another flyfisher. Howard, 1st time I saw so many tailor in one area, would have liked a few around the 1 kg mark, I think the smaller ones beat the bigger ones to the fly as I was bringing each one in, there were always half a dozen or more following. Matty, its been a great start so far. cheers
  3. Woke up at 4.30 and it was raining and dark, hmmmm, to go fishing or not, of course the decision was to go. Had a couple of hours before work today so had a quick fish. Got on the water about 5.30 a.m. and headed to the harbour, got to Dobroyd and apart from the huge surface action I saw a few months ago at North Head with the salmon, today would have to have been just as exciting. There were huge schools of chopper tailor busting up the surface from the eastern side of Dobroyd wrapping around to the western side, stacks of birds and no other boats out. There was also a visit from a small salmon school but they didnt hang around for long. I had a nice fly session for about an hour and a half hooking up on nearly every second cast. They were only small choppers in the 25 - 35 cm range, but it was good swoffing practice. After a while I decided to try to give the markers a go and score a king, but no such luck, heaps of bait fish, but no kings, well not for me anyhow. On the way back to Roseville I stopped by Dobroyd again where the schools had thinned out, but still managed a couple of fish then home by 9.30. I was surprised to see the tailor so vorocious, they were swirling all around and you could motor right up to them, similar to the salmon, and they were even jumping out of the water chasing their prey, white bait which they spewed up after being caught. Good fun today. I heard that kings and salmon hang under schools of tailor like this, I had the 10 wt with a sinking line, but was having too much fun with the intermediate. Anyone caught kings or other pelagics hanging under other feeding schools before?
  4. No worries Y.S., maybe we can get a few Raiders down there and fish a few spots.
  5. Onya James, that is a hot session.
  6. G'day George, we had a nice relaxing afternoon, Mrs enjoyed her belated birthday present, kids and I did some window shopping and I finished those flies off once I got back home. Phil, more like a feeling of something I have to do more than bravery, will be out to try the kings soon. Looks like your run with them has started some consistent catches. Howard, funny thing is, Iv'e been living down here for 8 years and never really got into fishing seriously till about 3-4 years ago, been fishing the lake nearly every week or two since. Was a bait soaker since I was little then took up the SPs and then when I started flyfishing, that was it. $$$ Plus Middle Harbour and Pittwater are only 10 minutes away as well. I'm lucky, thats for sure. Y.S., cant wait to test out the flies, nice work with the lizard, was that the boat ramp?
  7. Good stuff there Y.S. Proven fly there, well done.
  8. OK, just finished, they are a bit rough, but they are proven on the salmon. There's a few different colours and tail materials, Iv'e left the tails a bit long, everyone can just trim them as they like. I'll send them off in the next couple of days. cheers
  9. G'day Raiders, I was keen to have another go with the electric and wasnt going to let the forecast rain, thunder and lightning put me off having a quick fish today. Launched the boat down the lake at 5.15 am, it was fairly calm, slight southerly, smooth water but grey skies. Anyhow, got to woolies bridge and started casting a pink clandy (hybride of clouser and candy) around. The electric was doing a suberb job manouvering me around the area and I landed a few choppers up to 30 cms. Drifted down the island channel and burleyed up a decent mullet when the wind picked up to about 20 knots (its forecast), lightning and thunder was all around and the rain started to belt down. Thinking I was a bit of a lightning magnet in the middle of the lake, so I high tailed it back to the ramp and home by 8.15 am. I saw one other boat out there is morning, but that was it, I figured that I just had to go and have a fish despite the forecast, it was well worth it too to get on the boat, practice more with the leccy and catch a couple of fish.
  10. Wow, I like those shrimp patterns, they look terrific.
  11. Certainly sounds like a hot session Phil, well done!
  12. Sorry I havnt even started, but will have them done by next week, if I havnt got time to tie the eyes, I'll tie some gurglers, they are quick to tie and a great surface fly.
  13. How good is that! Well done thre guys, good fishing session.
  14. Iv'e been flat out working nights till last week, but should have time maybe this weekend, will get them off to Nick by next week. cheers
  15. I reckon the white clousers are the go for lizards as well, or a mullet pattern. If it rains this week and weekend, it might force the council to open the lake. There's plenty of choppers and mullet in the lake if your'e not too fussy.
  16. Hi Craig, I think the second sounder will have to be put on the wish list for me, maybe in another year's time. A swing arm would be helpful, although the Matrix swivels, I still have to turn around myself to read it, anyhow its all good. Pogo, I'm very happy!
  17. Get plenty of use in the new boat Bruce, well done on the lizards, good feed there.
  18. G'day Pete, mullet go hard, imagine the pull in them if they were the size of the kings you and the Mrs are pulling in lately! Phil, its pretty much set up now for what I want, I feel a bass session coming on. Shane, we can tee up a mullet afternoon down the lake one day if you like, might see if more of the Raiders want to get down there. There's mullet everywhere, just need some bread. Kevvie, there's always lizards around, caught some the other week in the usual spots. cheers
  19. Thats evil bucket...but I like it!
  20. Great report Pete, kings for dinner again by the look of it. Well done on the persistency.
  21. Mullet are a great fun fish, especially when they get up to that 35 cm+ size like yours yesterday. Now the boat has the leccy, I'm thinking it needs a new sounder on the front casting deck, wonder what the Mrs would think of that one? It took a year of badgering on my part to pursuade her to let me get the new leccy.
  22. G'day Weiry, the MG is a great addition to the tinny, I just couldnt wait to use it. The lake is full of choppers, mullet and bream at the moment, not huge choppers, but the mullet sure do get to decent pulling size. Lake is still not open so I imagine all the fish in there are desperately zipping around looking for a feed, when I threw out some burley (bread) I had instant fish, it was almost a fish or at least a hit each cast. The stripping tub, 50 litre laundry tub, is great and manages the line brilliantly, hardly any tangles and when moving around the boat, just pick up the tub and no worries about having to wind or pick up the line. I first used it a couple of months ago and when in the choppy waters outside fishing for salmon, it really proved its worth, mine is a home made job as well, pinched the idea off another site, couldnt imagine fly fishing without it. i heard there are some big kings in Botany Bay at the moment, perhaps thats what snaffled your clouser. Alex, the Motor Guide is an excellent price, PM me if you want the price. Its a freshwater model and I put an annode on it to stop the corrosion, Tyronne put me onto the leccy and annode idea. With good maintenance and washdown it should last ages. I had a freshwater tiller b4 and looked after it, it was as new when I sold it. cheers
  23. Good one Dave, flattys are fun to catch and good eating at that size.
  24. G'day George, it was a fun session this morning. I mainly went down to test out the leccy. It was a snack to mount, I talked to the guys where I bought it and he gave me heaps of good advice, didnt have to block it or cut away any bow rail, just put down a 10 mm rubber mat below it to raise it above the bow lip. It goes a treat and I'm very satisfied. We'll organise a day soon either down the lake or bass, catch up with you soon. BTW, how'd you go with the place up Caves? cheers
  25. G'day Raiders, after getting the leccy yesterday and mounting it in the arvo, I was keen to get out and test it. With only a couples of hours this morning before the daughter's party I snuck out at 4.30 to the lake. The motor worked perfectly, took a couple of minutes to get use to the footcontrol, but with more practice, it'll be fine and now the Edgetracker is complete, cant wait to get amongst the bass soon. Managed to get 8 mullet (to 30 cms), 9 choppers (littluns at 20 - 25 cms) and a lone bream on the 5 wt too, back home by 8.30 and post up this quick repor, I know that mullet arnt a glamour fish, but they are heaps of fun to catch. Plenty of choppers and mullet in the lake, some big ones jumping out of the water too. Pic of one of the mullet and the boat with the leccy attached. cheers
