  1. Thats great, never heard of a whiting taking a popper b4, good stuff!
  2. Good report Trev, odds on it was a shark, there have been quite a few sightings on the northern beaches lately, that must have been heart pumping stuff NTL. Sounds like you guys had a reasonable session up Middle Creek as well, 35 cm whiting is a good fish, well done.

    Towing

I had a similar problem at times, but on a smaller boat, I found the problem was when I didnt winch up tight enough it swerved, not sure if thats the same problem as you though.
  4. As a few guys have suggested, prevention is better than cure, secure the trailer up before you leave. I also have a lock for the trailer to tow ball, only takes a few seconds to lock up. There is a guy down at a boat ramp I frequent and his trailer is always chained to a tree, now thats a good deterent, but if they really wanted it, they'd figure a way. My trailer is only average anyhow, but I still lock it up. BTW, guys, when parking your trailer, dont forget to grab your winch handle if its not permanently attached to the winch, just lately I have picked up two winch handles that have been found on the ramp, put them on the side near the tap, they must have been found, by the owners I hope, because they were gone when I returned. Back to the question now, if the trailer was gone, rant and rave, have a big barney, then ring the insurance company, I heard Club Marine will bring a trailer round to pick up your boat, not sure if the other ins cos do that.
  5. This is definitely bad news, but nothing new, it sucks and there has been some discussions on this topic before on FR. Apparently today's paper had an article about it, we should read up and discuss possible ways to go on this before rec fishos have nothing left to fish for.
  6. What a great job, you guys should do custom jobs for a sideline. Boat looks great, well done!
  7. Hey Netic, you may have to take the new mantle of FR King of kings the way you are going, well done mate.
  8. Scottish, there has been some good info here that will help you get the job done. I have put a sounder on both tinnies I owned, the 1st one I had was similar to yours, its easy as, if I can do it, anyone can. Just read the instructions for the wiring to make sure you get the distant right away from the motor and angle of the transducer the correct way, set up the battery and things should be sweet. Its really straight forward, plan where it will go and if the position is suitable, imagine the position of the sounder when you are fishing and if it will get in the way or not. Sounders are a great asset for any type of fishing, finding structure, bait, fish drop offs, it'll be another world, read up well and you should get alot out of the sounder.
  9. Well done Adam, kings must be the top fish in the harbour.
  10. Good work on the kings, they are a top fish.
  11. What a great report, good day out with the family.
  12. Well done Brian, snapper are a great table fish.
  13. It was good having you on board Jason, I'll take my snorkel next time if conditions are like that. Nick, there's still plenty of good land based fishing, but if you have a boat, there are obviously more options.
  14. Sharky, love those surface busting, line pulling, high jumping, fish! Shane, Jason was going to bring his flyrod, but thought otherwise, actually, a r/h spinner and a r/h flycasting works well , on a smaller tinny anyhow. KR, not much around CG when we were there this morning, mainly MH cheers
  15. G'day Raiders, headed out to the Harbour with Jason (Jaso) today, left Roseville at 5 a.m., didnt look too windy, but once we arrived at Balmoral, it was howling, bit of swell and very choppy. We motored around to Clifton, very slowly as not to get too wet, my boat only being a v-nose punt and not liking the chop, at CG didnt see anything. I was thinking, could be an early finish, then back to MH and we saw stacks of birds working. They were over a large school of chopper tailor and some salmon. We had a good time there for about an hour, Jason and I scoring about 6 choppers each, with Jason losing quite a few plastics and me losing a couple of flies to their sharp teeth. We then headed around the corner and for the next hour we had a great time in amongst large tailor, salmon and kings. Jason was a whiz with the plastics and nailed some solid tailor and 3 salmon, but the salmon either broke his line right at the boat or nearing the end of the fight. I did ok with the fly, scoring a couple more nice tailor, hooking quite a few others but dropping them. It was tough going out there today with the wind as strong as it was, we got drenched, but couldnt help but laugh. Thanks for coming out today Jason it was good fun.
  16. Cheers Mario, I'm happy to catch anything on fly, kings are certainly up the top of my list of favourites.
  17. G'day Shane, the king certainly puts up a great fight, and like you said, more so than the salmon, kings definitely scream off more line and that last struggle, they fight to the end. The fly, its a new one I tied that I copied off an American site, its called a spinster, has a blade connected to it, I'll include a pic, it looks a bit rough after the tussle with the king, plus being in and out of the water all day.
  18. G'day YS, thats a 10 wt rod, with a sink tip Teeny, great line, 17 lb Vanish leader. cheers
  19. Went out to the Harbour in search for salmon and kings yesterday with Bluecod. Boy, was it hard, there were fish around, but they were very flighty. Ended up getting the good oil from a top bloke and ended up with this king, my PB on fly on just 60 cms, it was a great tussle which lasted at least 10 minutes, and now I am sure why they are called, the "king".
  20. I dont do much bait fishing anymore, but I would suggest you buy a bait jig ie a set of about 6 small hooks with red/green beads/small leaves above the hooks on one rig, they'll get you the yakkas, even caught slimeys and trevs on them before. With one of the yakkas, put it on a balloon or decent sized float with about a metre or so leader, send another yakka down deep. For squid, harder to get each day with so many people after the prized king bait, but you need squid jigs and basically cast to rocky shores or around weed beds. Read up on mags and books on fishing the harbour, lots of info out there. Good luck
  21. Good onya Bennos, sounds like you did well. That is one of my fav fishing spots, especially on fly. Just as Bluecod said, when striking just give the line a quick sharp tug when you feel its taken the fly, but you must have the line fairly straight at all times, ie little or no slack.
  22. Good report as usual, at least you got a couple.
  23. cheers Shane, seasons best wishes to you and your family as well, happy new year!
  24. Cheers guys, always good to see the salmon, and they sure are fussy, I found earlier the better for hookups and also before the crowd gets out there. Have a good one everyone.
  25. After the nice session the other day, it was too tempting to go out once more b4 Christmas. Went out yesterday and more or less fished the same spots but hung around Clifton a bit more as there seemed to be more school around there. Had a good time again, but one charter skipper was powering up everytime someone would find a school and then have five blokes firing off casts to the school you were at, got annoying after awhile. I suppose he's desperate to put blokes onto fish as they are paying big money each, but still, in a big boat like that and charging up to schools more or less put them down. Here's pic of a nuggety salmon I boated, if you look closely you can see the small eye I used next to its dorsal fin. Anyhow Raiders, have a good Christmas and New Year, hope to see you on the water sometime.
