  1. Hahaha once the boss tastes that 1st fresh caught one you'll have a free pass I reckon! Yep the hours are definitely going to count, I'm preparing for a long cold winter on the beach and now looking forward to every minute! Good luck with it mate be sure to post when you land your beast!
  2. Hi mate, Nice fish! They are the best looking fish you can catch I reckon! From my limited experience as SargeRX8 says your doing everything right and the spot seems like a winner... I was using 4/0's as well to start but swapped to 6/0's after receiving advice from posts here. My thinking the bigger hook might have more clearence from the bait giving a better chance of hook up (maybe? Hahaha). I also had a 2/0 stinger which sits just above the tenticles... I usually only take 1 rod with me and 2 reels, so I always hold my rod, especially when I'm using the Alvey 650a5 which has no drag. I'm going to start using 2 rods one in a rod holder and holding one. The one in the holder will definately have a gama circle hook 6/0 and probably a 3/0 with the drag setup (Alvey 651c5) as Butch said. Many long cold nights ahead I think to crack the 1m mark... Good luck with it mate! I hope you're posting your 1m + mulloway soon!
  3. Hahaha yeh mate all that effort and I reckon I'll need to double it to get a bigger one through winter... as you say hooked even more!!! Thanks for your advice in previous posts mate.
  4. Thanks mate! Fishing the northern part of Wamberal beach.

    Sat nite

    Nice flatties mate, well done!
  7. Yeh mate always check willyweather before hand... I never fish the rocks Avoca or Terrigal if the swell is over 1.8-2m they're too open to the wind and waves and the surf was huge over the weekend. You can try at the haven at Terrigal down near the rocks at the dive cafe if you needed a bit of shelter and wambie beach had a few gutters worth a poke over the weekend...
  8. Definitely mate, will be making Tom Yum soup with the head, collar and backbone. Not wasting a gram! Hahaha...
  9. Thanks mate hope to catch a few more to report on!
  10. Thanks mate! Dark side it is Paul, dark side it is... no turning back now!
  11. Yeh I noticed the sand really sticks to them... gave it a thorough clean when I got home and will do so again when I cook some tonight... hopefully as grit free as possible...
  12. Scored my 1st jewie last night, worth every minute mate! Never caught a red fin though... would be devastating to snap a rod on hook up, my only graphite rod never saw the water as snapped it on a tree branch trying to put it in the car... hahaha... was only a cheapie though. Might need a more compact travelling setup or carrying case in future???
  13. Well done scratchie beast of a fish! Top report as always...
  14. Hahaha, they say the camera adds a few pounds. Yeh the conditions were pretty full on, a lot of fun without a drag on the Alvey, plenty of landing practise in the shorebreak on seaweed before hand... the swell was awesome to watch, could see the waves when walking down before I could see the sand dunes! The inner gutter I was fishing had water moving every which way, exciting fishing that's for sure!
  15. Enjoy reading your posts as well mate you're always on some cracker fish! Hahaha I feel pretty special... cheers scratchie much appreciated!
  16. Cheers Tom! Still have plenty to learn but as you say bitten by the bug, if it's anything like the last few months the infection runs pretty deep! I hope your right on future postings, will certainly be trying! Thanks mate.
  17. Hi mate, standard running rig: Main line + swivel + 30cms mono with a size 3 star sinker running free on line + swivel + 40cms 60lb mono leader + snelled 6/0 gama octopus hook + 5cms snelled 2/0 gama octopus hook. Distance between hooks depended on bait size, because each squid was the same size didn't bother with a sliding snell. Uni knots for each line to swivels. Sinker size was small for surf conditions, but would rather follow the current than be anchored full on the bottom. I'll post a pic later if required... hope this helps...
  18. Thanks guys... still have a cheesy grin this morning... hahaha!
