  1. Nice one, you guys had a great day out on the water, I am sure you've done Kelvin proud. Fantastic release of the 90cm King too. You have to feel sorry for the squid sometimes, they are amazing things, too bad for them the Kings love them and they are tasty morsals.
  2. It's amazing how many fishing stories there are out there, it seems I always find a new story every time I head out. This one is a story with a happy ending, very lucky you did not lose the beautiful Torsa !!!! SPEWING about the lost fish too !!! No doubt a Hoodlum, but as with fishing, you never know unless you bring it up. I was warned about the plastic rod holders, and promptly replaced the downrigging holders with metal ones. At least you got some good action, aren't squid a pain to catch !!! Easy one day, impossible the next.
  3. Well done again Kelvin, certainly some nice fish caught. You must be losing your touch, it seems you are getting busted quite often, I have never seen you even be challenged by a King, these ones must be thumpers, I bet it has you hopping mad Great to see your dad wanting to get out on the Noble, why wouldn't you !!!! Compare your dads smile to your son's, any similarities !!?? Look forward to see how you fair on the weekend. Hopefully I will have something worth writing about. Easy KingsRule, all hands above the table
  4. Another quality report Kelvin, and congrats to your wife on nailing her first King. Embarassingly for me, her first King is bigger then my PB I have yet to crack the 90cm mark, only a matter of time though Shame about not being able to get snaps of the Hoods. It would be such a great feeling to release such a beautiful fish.
  5. Nice report Netic, well done on the Kings. Good on you for sharing the action with other raiders. We did not fair well offshore, didn't turn a reel. Tried jigging for 45 minutes, before downrigging north head for nothing again. Our trip was no where near as exciting and successful as yours. Hope to be able to write a report worth reading about soon...
  6. Cheers, thanks for the clarification mate.
  7. Nice one Penguin, nothing like pressure to perform in front of the women.... You come up with the goods, good sized Kings as well. Once again the Penguin prawn does the trick, well done. Being the nosy bugger that I am, when you say livies, did you use squid or yakka? Also, were you anchored just out of reach of the Clifton Baths? Cheers.
  8. Nice going again Kelvin !!! Amazing the differences in Sounders !!! As if you need any more assistance from technology to nail the fish !!! Watch out you harbour Seriolas, run for your lives Kelvin with his new improved boat and sounder is coming ..... Very very nice boat indeed, you are right, it is amazing how big the boats look when they are out of the water. So how was the ride on the Noble? Can you easily launch and retrieve the boat by yourself?
  9. Hey Squidboy, not sure if you read one of my threads, but my Tyrnos 30 went swimming for about 30 minutes as well. Although they are sealed reels, I doubt whether they are water and air tight, so I would put money on water getting inside the reel. In either case, I did not want to risk it, so I took it back to Shimano (Taren Point) and they fixed it for $20, all done in a couple of days. Great effort to get back your rod and reel !!!!! Nice Hood too, amazing how much pulling power these fish have, you certainly weren't fishing light !!!

    Hooked

Did you catch any Tailor? Very lucky indeed, happy ending.
  11. Hi Paul, could you add a guest that I will bring along. Thanks.
  12. Fantastic report mate, sounds like you had a great day. Good to see you try a variety of things. Very nice snapper indeed. Reminds me of the good old days of fishing off Coalcliff Rocks.... I know what you mean about it being too calm, but it is a great feeling to be out there early in the morning, smelling the ocean and hearing the gentle waves crash on the rocks. Nice one.
  13. Funny about all the negative thoughts going through your mind, when you know you are onto a monster, I think people do that to prepare themselves for the worst, and there is immense relief and pleasure when the beast is landed. Superb !!! Great fish and nice report. A big congrats.

    The Peak

A bit rude the guys did not at least offer anything for your help !!! Some people.
  15. G'day Shaun, We went out today at Pitty as well, and we did not go much better. We only boated 2 squid at Barrenjoey headland, got a heap of yakkas at west head. Downrigged around the headland for zip - well, we had a couple of takers and dropped a very small King at the boat. Went inside Pitty, around wrecks, moorings etc - had a squid and yakka on two different downriggers. Jack, squat diddly. Saw some fish busting up occasionally, but went down when we went to investigate. Tough day, but the conditions in the morning were superb. Water temps were great, damn fish were not playing.
  16. You are a brave man Zenman, I'll be buggered if I go in with my feet and hands without knowing what is thrashing about in the water. That is a decent bronzed whaler, did you end up keeping it?
  17. I don't mean the Lady Jane type of exposure. Any time you swim outside protective nets or baths, you are exposing yourself to potential shark attacks. You, me, speak same language now?? And as far as I know sharks are strictly carnivores, no nuts
  18. Yep I remember growing up as youngster around there and hearing things about sharks around the boat ramp at 'Kentucky' - near the boat ramp there. There were also numerous accounts and local paper clippings on sharks going as far up as Liverpool Weir !!!! I understand that Bull sharks are resilient and actually like the dirty water, so where ever there is access and food, you will find them. As a previous post said, the chances of getting taken by one are very little, but there is a chance !!! You can also reduce your chances by not exposing yourself during certain times of the year (like now) and swimming in certain areas.
  19. Damn, that has sent chills down my spine. It sounds like one of those things that you hear about but don't have any credibility, because someone heard it from someone who knew someone .... But coming from the horses mouth is different !!!! Were there any huge splashes or did you you see any fin? Amazing that they do not get scared by all the boat traffic ... I guess with all the people cleaning their fish and throwing it in the water .... Damn, I recall diving around the Tunks Park pontoon, looking for a dropped down rigger !!!! Glad I did not read these stories before then!!!! Think twice about taking a dunk next time !!!
  20. Fishing with two legends !!! Would have been great. Both Gary and Alex are top blokes, knowledgable in their areas of fishing, friendly and down to earth. I have met both of them at fishing seminars, and they have time for everyone. I saw Gary at Tunks Park boat ramp the other day cleaning his catch of bream and trevs, asked him a few questions and no hassles for him.
  21. Thanks for the report femalefisho, it's amazing how hard those Jew heads fight Could have kept it for fish head soup On a serious note .... shame about the lost Jew !!! It would have been weird at the time, not knowing what was going on ... That is a good sized Bully, he could do some damage. Note to all swimmers and dog owners !!! I was at Clontarf last weekend, just on the beach catching some sun, and was thinking that the drop off on the beach was looking pretty sharky !!!! I would not swim there .... Anyone sighted a shark at Clontarf ???
  22. Great effort sifisho, sounds like you did well compared to others there. This is a great example of the fantastic information that can be provided to people reading the reports on this website. Nothing like up to date info on where the action is, and the best techniques. All is looking great for the social, touch wood for the weather !!!!
  23. Nice report Kelvin, and congratulations on your trifecta. Sounds like an awesome experience, and I hope to do the same one day - sooner, rather then later. Great to see the WA guys taking care of their fisheries, hopefully that type of fishing will be around for a long while yet.
  24. So the tails are for the posh lazy people, serves them right, let them pay twice as much. Cheers.
