I live in port stephens and would love to catch up with some fellow raiders! Got a few good spots myself. When were you thinking of coming up??? I'm going to coffs between 28-4.

had a go, found a couple flats where whiting were hanging about, was trying them on poppers but wind was really up (it was the day that massive fire started)
got a bunch of average flatties, some where quite fun to pull in (only about 30-40cm). they all went back into the drink
Forster marina boat hire...our boat died just when (i am pretty sure) my mate had hooked up a MASSIVE flattie. but cause we had such light gear, and the motor died...grrrr! we lost it. never even had a chance to find out what it coulda been. next time i go forster i reckon i will read-up on Roberta's worming tips. All in all we still had a nice day...and a dolphin practically splashed us...which was very nice.
Good to hear you got amongst it! Would have been nice to land the big fella. Oh we'll that's fishing!

Hey there,
If you live in the blue mtns, last year we started up a fishing club at the Winmalee tavern. For its first year we ended up with about 40 members and go out on comps every 4-6 weeks.
If you want to go out fishing with someone it might be a good start. See the bar staff and they will point you in the right direction!

Hey Scott,
You right about the weather, it has been really ordinary up here and the winds very unpredictable. I got out on the bay yesterday (wednesday) with completely calm conditions from 5am-11am. On the top of the tide, I started collecting bait and managed 2 squid and a few whiting. Headed to my Jew spot on the run out. It was so calm that I didn't really need to drop anchor cos I wasn't moving, but I did anyway. Started to burly and sent out 1 livie, 1 live squid and 1 rod with fresh prawns. The squid got hammered and so did the prawn but no hook up???
As I was winding in the prawn less rod I caught a chomper tailor chasing my silver hook. Ah ha, that's what had been destroying my bait. So I collected a few, butterflied 1 and sent one out live. Was there till 1hr after run out with nothing decent. There must have been a million tailor in the bay. All baits were destroyed. So I moved to another spot and same thing. Probably the worst day I've had in the bay with those conditions. Oh well, this means I will have to got out again on the weekend for this weeks fish for dinner!

Great video boys! And good to see you get your priorities right and put the phone down and pick up that reel. Well done!!!

That is gold!!!! Had the same thing happen to me the other day with a pelican. Grrrrrr!!!

Another raider was asking same questions in the chat section.
The best results ive had for whiting were the sand flats near the bridges ocean side.
Any of the racks fish well. Look for back eddys especially on the out going tide.
Good luck.

Stockton fishes well from the 7 to 13km mark from the birubi entrance. Look for gutters. Out going tide best. Mullet strips work well as do fresh squid baits. Always schools of salmon and tailor about in the evening.
But an even better beach spot around the corner is middle rock. Im a local up here and theres been some good reports of jew and groper there last week.
Good luck and look forward to report.

Shark,od is spot on. We must fish the same spots!

Sorry, but sometimes fishing is just luck. You must have used all yours in the one day!
-
Great report Mr Squid. I agree, if you catch a monster your story will make for great reading.
Well done!

They are some serious lizards. Love seeing them been released. Hopefully they jump on my line next time!

Mate you had me until you said no alcohol allowed. Being the elite sportsman I am, the beauty of the sport of fishing is you can have a beer while you are doing it and still become a champion!!!!
Enjoy your trip, and look forward to your post!

Hey Scott, how did you go? I got out today Friday.
Went up to karuha for a flick with no luck. Weather was pretty ordinary with the rain and wind constant. Headed back to the bay in my favorite spot and managed 3 nice bream at 30cm and a few soapies but missed the best part of the tide. Still ok considering conditions!
