  1. I've seen these somewhere, but can't remember where. Not a bad idea.
  2. Nice fitout. I came across this switch on e-bay about 18 months ago. Found it tough to find though. I thought of putting a float switch in, but imo, the water temperature in the bait tank needs to be monitored in some cases. The timer switch can be turned on and off as normal. The timer side will pump for 60 seconds, and switch off from 60 seconds and up to 12 minutes, depending on where you at set the dial.
  3. That's exactly what we did Big Neil. I couldn't believe how fast it was taken. It barely hit the water. My son isn't a keen angler, but has a go from time to time, and he surprises me with how well he does.
  4. Some very sound advice from kiwicraig and mattfinn. Thanks guys! I'll add patience to that list. It will pay off.
  5. That's a good mixed bag. Nice work mate.
  6. Hi raiders, I took my son out totry and get his first Bass. It was tough, and no Bass,so he decided to catch a grasshopper. It barely hit the water and was engulfed by this guy measuring 26cm. My first thoughts were a freshwater herring, but might be an Australian Grayling.
  7. I have seen that type of lure at windsor bait and tackle. I could see the theory, but wasn't sure if it would work. I don't think I'll doubt those guys again after seeing a post of a bass with a duckling in its throat! So I think I will add it to the tackle box.
  8. Thanks Neil, you're right with what you're saying. I've only recently started chasing bass, and I love it. I need to fish more often than I do. Not a secret spot Mattfinn, it's off the river walk and through the bush. Looks as though people go there frequently due to rubbish and beer bottles left behind?,but I suspect it's the same people.
  9. After reading some of the latest Bass reports, they gave me some inspiration to get out after work. Knock off time couldn't come around quick enough, even more so when the conditions were becoming overcast. A bit of rain had come across, but was easing off by the time I got there. Undeterred, I got stuck in. The rain became torrential, my spray jacket had enough, and was no longer keeping me too dry, & shoes and socks became puddles, but I kept at it. I would of had at least a dozen hits, but just couldn't hook up using a spinner bait, but I wasn't going to be beaten by the weather or the fish! So I stayed varying retrieval speeds, and around an hour of trying, a bass of approximately 20cm was hooked. I stayed for another half an hour, but the rubbish, and weeds flowing down stream was making things more difficult with fouling the lure with every cast. So content with one bass, I called it a day.
  10. Glad you're ok, too many complacent, & careless fools on our waterways, and with Christmas upon us, we can only hope people keep incidents like this in the back of their minds, and keep themselves, their passengers and other people on and in the water safe.
  11. Wow! That's quite remarkable! The food chain doesn't discriminate.
  12. The use of circle hooks, when bait fishing is meant to minimize this issue. I've only been using them for a short while, and although I haven't gut hooked a fish for a long time, they work ok. Gut hooking is usually caused by leaving the line unattended, which will give the fish the time to scoff the bait down, where as an attended line, the bite is generally felt, and a strike will usually follow. On a side note, I was on a friend's boat earlier in the year. An undersize Kingie was caught, and it had a hook and line still in its lip from a battle it had won previously. Naturally, we removed all terminal tackle, and released the fish.
  13. Nice job! It's am awesome feeling when you succeed with different styles of lures. I've just started getting into bass fishing, and caught them on hard bodies, but mostly on spinnerbaits. I haven't had surface lure success yet. You're right about the guys at the tackle shop.
  14. Various spinner baits have been doing the job, but I have been finding that they go quiet very quickly. I'm not sure as to why, but I'd only be guessing that they not quite on song yet, or they are spooked quite easily. ( don't forget, I'm new to Bass fishing aswell). As for locations, I'm still figuring things out.
  15. Similar to amkr, but I made mine from rope and carabiners.
  16. I caught 3 today within an hour.then nothing for the next 3 hours, but they were there and sometimes following the lures. They were between 22cm and 28cm specimens. I'm still finding my way around Bass fishing. I'm lead to believe better days ahead. Warmer weather, more insect activity at dawn and dusk will make them fire up. Just watch where you walk, I disturbed a Red bellied black snake, and yes, I crapped myself. I'm glad we both went in different directions. ??
  17. Hi Fragmeister, yeah, it's exciting when you catch something new. I've been lucky enough to get a few first time catches this year. I caught this guy around 2pm on a sunny day, which I wasn't expecting.
  18. Amkr is right. Any undersize fish have to be returned to the water, even if it unfortunately doesn't survive.
  19. Went exploring this afternoon, found a spot by the river.on the 3rd cast of a brown trout lure,I was on. Not a big fish by any means, but I am happy with my first ever Bass at 25cm. This enticed my son to have a go,but no luck this time.he got boredafter I made the mistake of letting my lure sinking too far, got it snagged, and lost it. We only fished for around an hour, but you know I'll be back for a longer sesssion.
  20. Those keeper baskets are ok. I've had a few of them. You can get a floating version. They will eventually rust away though.
