  1. They do General Zod, but the young ones have white/ grey horizontal stripes. They are definitely an ugly looking fish!
  2. It's going to be quite murky!??
  3. I've only caught catfish in tyne Hawkesbury, around Brooklyn to Berowa. You may encounter them in other parts of the Hawkesbury river. I've never seen one in Sydney harbour, but I don't know of anyone that has. I'm sure someone will advise us if they have. As for the puffer fish, I caught one in Sydney a few months ago, and it inflated to the size of a basketball. I cut the line, as i didn't want my fingers anywhere near those incisor like teeth. They ARE poisonous to eat. ( even if they were edible, I wouldn't bother with them). As with any fish, if you're not sure, handle with extreme care, and release it, or cut the line.
  4. I believe an eel tail catfish has 3x poisonous spines. One in front of the dorsal fin and one in front of each pectoral fin.
  5. Great fish mate! I haven't caught one over 40cm. (It was my son that one at 64cm last September).
  6. Thanks for the feedback guys, I have plenty of green ones, I think I'll go worth that.
  7. Hi raiders, does anyone know where I can get short red glow sticks in Sydney?
  8. They're also lots of fun on light gear
  9. Lip grips are the go, A cloth or a glove, and secure the lower jaw will gain you control over the flatty. Just remember to support the body with your other hand as soon as you're able to.
  10. Probably the type of grubs that would cast into the berley trail & cause tangles etc. but there is no reason to be thoughtless and selfish. Imo, they're not anglers.
  11. I once went to my favourite pontoon with my son and a friend one evening. When I got there, there were 2 people fishing off it, and I asked if they'd mind if we sat to one side. One of the blokes said no, and put 2 eskies across the pontoon entrance, so we fished off an ajacent wall. My son asked if he could throw the berley in, and because I was annoyed, I told him that I'm not about to berley an area where people are being rude. A short time later, we heard a screaming reel, & we watched. They looked at me and my landing net, & I shook my head 'no'.they tried to land a fish in a large esky and the fish got away.
  12. Hi raiders, I haven't posted anything for a while.(I haven't had anything to write about). I went fishing out of sydney harbour yesterday. We started off chasing squid, & although I've never succeeded before on squid jigs, I persisted for a while with no success, I changed rigs for yakkas,& they were hard work, but we got a few, & 1 squid. We changed locations & tried for squid again, it took a while to locate them, and we got a few more on board, & then I finally ticked a box! I caught my first squid on a jig! We went out chasing kingies,we set some live baits out, and I starting jigging for them, with a 40cm sand flathead caught on the jig and the livies not acting too nervously, came back in to see how we would go. Another box was ticked with a nice bite, and that adrenaline pumping bend in the rod, resulting in a 52cm Samson fish. Great day, now to start preparing for the pirtek challenge next week.
  13. I've always wanted my own boat, so around 18 months ago, I came across this, & had to have it. If you see us, give us a yell. We're like the fish we chase, sometimes we don't bite.
  14. I have a 4.2 stacer with 40hp & we top out at 45km/h. A friend of mine has a similar boat with similar speed. Another friend gas a similar size boat to yours with 115hp, and he gets around 60km/h.
  15. I caught a small ( 95CM) hammerhead in that stretch of water a few years ago.
  16. I use spotters. They have photochromic lenses (basically like transition lenses I suppose ). I prefer glass lenses because I believe they are a bit more scratch resistant than polycarbonate lenses. The down side to that is they are a bit heavier. Also make sure they feel right, try as many glasses as possible until you find a frame that is comfortable, especially around pressure points. If you are fishing,or anywhere near people fishing, WEAR THEM. They will protect you from any wayward hooks!
  17. Not an exciting report, but a friend and I tried the hawkesbury at Berowra. The bites were very few and far between, but we persisted. Ended up with 5 duskies ranging between turn 50cm - 58cm. So I can't complain.
  18. Looks like the landbase gods are delivering. There's nothing like succeeding when you know that you are out gunned.
  19. Thanks bigjewie. I was thinking about going to middle harbour this weekend. That just about makes up my mind.
  20. Wind direction can be a factor when drifting. It was quite windy on Saturday afternoon . I fished Berowra with no success (first time fishless in ages there).
