  1. Thanks for the support raiders! I'm glad you all enjoyed the story of the one that didn't get away. I haven't seen anyone catch one that big, and to be a part of it was incredible. My PB wouldn't be any bigger than 40cm. I reckon both of our heart rates were off the planet. We were high fiving, hugs, pats on the back, certainly on an adrenaline high! He said that it was hard work, and you could see he was struggling. As for giving lessons, he whipped my butt. In the car on the way home, he said "Dad? You suck at fishing, maybe you should be a fishing coach." It felt like a longer drive home than usual. I will put it on cotm, and see how he goes. Not sure if it is a contender on the records, I'll check the rules, as he isn't a raiders member. I also left the weighing scales in the boat. We discussed about eating it, but we got more enjoyment from getting our faces splashed from that big tail kick as it realised it was free.
  2. After a few undersized snapper & bream caught by my son,and not being the most patient at fishing, he had a lesson in angling with a 6' jarvis walker 2-4kg rod. I coached him through the fight ( to the best of my knowledge ).After a few runs etc, he had beaten a 64cm Trevally! After a few photos, it was released.
  3. Awesome! I think we're in for a big season as far as kingies go.
  4. Thanks Ryder! I haven't been out for awhile. I'm no expert, but I reckon we're in for a cracking summer of fishing this season.
  5. I've caught a few of those red Rock cod in the past ( most of us probably have). I've been told that they are quite nice to eat, but I treat those things with the utmost respect and return them back to the sea.( for those unaware, they have nasty venomous spikes) How would you anglers prepare these. I suppose if all else fails, lime juice and cracked pepper could be worth a shot.
  6. Unlucky, but that's what makes us return, time and time again. There's always next time, and another story to post.
  7. After reading the feedback on this event, no doubt everyone involved in organising & running it, & all that attended to make it a success have had a ball. This is what fishing is all about. Hopefully I can join you all next year.
  8. What an awesome looking event. I'm a little envious! I hope it's on again next year.
  9. Good to see the weather didn't deter you. Nice fish !
  10. Have fun everyone! I might join in tomorrow....
  11. I'm sure I speak for most of us raiders, but if we don't go fishing to relax, we get withdrawals and become irritating. Then there is the other side of fishing, the ones that get away! These turn some of us into raging ogres for a moment ( guilty as charged) until we realise why we're there in the first place.
  12. Hope so fragmeister, but we'll see. As for the fight thefisherman6784, it did have a short run, but turned and swam towards me, so it wasn't that great. Maybe it could of fought harder, but I'm not sure. I did wonder how big it's host might of been, but I have read that they do leave their host to breed(spawn/multiply ?).
  13. Great report, great angling, great enthusiasm! Keep it up.
  14. Hi Raiders, as some of you are aware, I posted this photo in another thread, and it has been suggested to submit it here. I've been meaning to do this for quite some time, but simply, just overlooked it. I've always enjoyed fishing, and have always used bait. I decided to learn how to use soft plastics around two and a half years ago. So around 2 years ago, I took my son fishing in middle Harbour, and while he was happy catching leather jackets on a handline, I was trying my luck with the sp. Using 6lb braid & 8lb leader, this was not what I was expecting! I asked my son to get the landing net ready, because it felt like a reasonable size fish. He netted it for me like a pro! After a few pics of this Remora with a squidgy still in its mouth, we made sure it recovered, and let it swim away.
  15. No shark caught, although I have no doubt they are around. Middle Harbour does throw the odd surprise at you.
  16. I caught it in middle Harbour, on 6lb braid, 8lb leader My son, 9 at the time, ( that's his hand in the background) did the netting. I did wonder how big it's host was!
  17. I've submitted the photo, let's wait and see.
  18. I've been meaning to put this up for ages, & finally remembered.i caught this Remora on a soft plastic, around 2 years ago. I'd just started using sp, trying to master the art, & this was probably the last thing I expected.
  19. Some people have too much time on their hands. If it's registered ( the trailer), I thought you could park on the street, and there was nothing anyone could do. Looks like I'm wrong. So if you hook the trailer up, and there is no parking at the ramp, are you allowed to park on the Street for the day, considering the total length of vehicle and trailer will exceed 7 metres? I'm going to look this up.
  20. Nice report Sydney Fisher12 ! I felt cheated by the weather aswell Goingfishing! I backed out of fishing for the same reason, so decided to put the LED lights I bought 10 months ago, on the trailer.
