    Mac Tuna

nice work fellas a friend was out last Friday aswell chasing the frigates but couldn't hook up as they were feeding on tiny bait (probably what you call eyes) Ken or anyone else can you please clarify. What is the difference between striped and mac tuna Adam
  5. thanks fellas, it sure was a great session, one I needed in a long time. With a new job and changes at home it's been difficult to get out lately but this trip made it. Are Mac Tuna's any good to eat or should I save them as bait Adam
  6. Bashir, didn't even think of it but you are right, something must have been pushing them up. We did sight dolphins but they were huge, maybe small whales, don't know. Kikila, we used a combination of skirts ranging to about 10cm overall size and Halco 190's in red/white Steve who took us out on Saturday is there again right now. He has just started his troll so I'll keep you updated Adam
  7. An early 6am start in Botany we were greeted with a breeze. As we set outside the rolling waves and spray in the boat confirmed that we were in for an uncomfortable time out Out in 40mtr outside Botany we started our drift for flathead. This place generally fires however today we only managed 4 flathead just reaching the 50cm mark in 2 hours. As the fishing was slow we set off to a FAD just only a couple of km’s out. Trolled around and had a couple of casts out with BM’s to zilch. Decided to stick to the original plan and do the usual troll from the Hacking down to Garie beach but this time since it was a bit rough we thought we would start the spread of lures outside of Botany since we wanted to take it easy. Good call it was to, 5 mins later dropped the 1st Mac Tuna (3-5Kg specimen) then spread out again than our 1st triple hookup on very fat Mac Tuna’s. We used a combination of skirts and hardbodies and all worked perfectly. By the time we reached Bate Bay we already had 7 tuna’s and 4 flathead. We then came across an eruption on the surface. Take the bream gear out but only seemed to hook up on slimies. Reached the hacking and just on Jibbon we scored 2 kingies just legal, just passed jibbon again there was surface activity this time we could see the kingies feeding on the surface (much bigger fish) but disappeared as soon as we got there. By the time we got to Marley beach (I think that’s what it’s called) we had already picked up a salmon, 50cm tailor a bonnie and I think a spotted mac but the swell was just getting bigger so we turned around and headed back to Botany. Again, same place as before we started to boat Mac’s but this time we picked up a small dollie of about 40cm, then I got my 1st dollie again same size . (didn't think dollies would come in so close). We were only about a 2-3 Kms out of Bate bay. Tried going back to the FAD outside botany but couldn’t sight it anywhere as it was a bit rough. Called it a day at 2.30 with a total bag of 12 Mac Tuna’s, 2 kingies, 4 flathead, 2 dollies, salmon, tailor, striped or spotted tuna, bonito….. what a mixed species. Top day’s fishing but could have been better with the weather Sorry no pics, I did have the camera but could not be bother taking it out as at times it was just hectic Adam

    Sydney Harbour

I was going out tomorrow...But not anymore. I think it will be just as windy tommorrow as it was today! good call Joe, the wind has kicked in. I also pulled the plug on it. Next time guess what a mate pulled out of middle harbour on Friday night drum rolls.............. a massive HAIRTAIL. I've got a shitty picture on my phone, I'll try and down load it doesn't give d shits, work all winter for them and for some silly reason it appears in summer. I thought maybe a massive pike eel, but this fella knows his fish Adam

    Sydney Harbour

better luck next time Joe. another friend was also out today and apparently it was a pretty rough day outside they were reporting 2-3mtr swells late in the afternoon so hoping it will calm down for the weekend Adam
  12. well done Joe, that spot sure yields the kingies, but a jewie aswell, top stuff mate. thanks for the assistance with the pillies mate. Managed to get 12 yakkas then headed out to the front of south head. Managed 7 Kingies with only 1 or 2 of them legal. caught 1 kingie on a bassminnow, 2 on livies and the rest on strips. I will send you that email shortly Adam
  13. buddy, the boats lookin tops. well done fellas on the mixed bag
  14. thanks for the kind words fellas. still it's always good to be back. Looking forward to some evening jew sessions and some live baiting for kings in the harbour. A trusted source has already scored over 8 Jewies and plenty of kings in the last 2 weeks Adam
  15. there all the live bait outfits. Small 6ft 2-4Kg rods with Abu 5500 and 6500 reels used for slimeys and yakkas an interesting point I wanted to mention regarding the method of catching live bait. We were fishing 20-25mtr water with multiple feather hooks, 6 hooks on 1 leader attached to the main line. Never used this setup but it sure works. We were told to free spool to the bottom than crank the reel all the way up. Every time we brought up at least 2 slimeys/yakkas. anybody else use this method outside or even perhaps inside. It's an excellent way of getting livies very quickly
  16. thanks fellas. Had a great time up there. It's amazing the amount of fishing there is in so close Hopefully I'll be up again there soon Adam
  17. It's been a while since my last post as I have been busy with a new job and all. Didn't get much fishing done since then but just recently after cancelling a trip to SWR (thanks anyway for the markings Changa- will use it next time) I decided to go up north to Brisbane to visit my brothers. I was itchin to get out as it had been so long so I organised a charter off Nth Straddie with Mal Starkeys point lookout charters. EXCELLENT bloke, knows the area well and is a good fisherman. We ended up fishing the afternoon 12-5pm session and by then the winds had picked upto about 25knots, it was very messy with 2mtr swells and very uncomfortable. Within minutes I started to feel abit funny but managed to keep it to myself with the first troll only 5k's out we started a spread of 160 and 190 size halco hardbodies. We were told not to bother with skirts as he generally picks up all his fish on hardbodies. We listened and within a few minutes my brother hooked up on the first fish a mac tuna, then I got the first yellowfin and another that spat the hook and another that was lost at the prop All the tuna were caught within the 1st hour of trolling and as the tuna's went away then came the marlin. A 40-50kg specimen. Unfortunately it wasn't me that hooked up but I still got to fight it as my brother started to get sore in the arms. After a good 20mins we had him close to the boat until he decided to do another bolt. Another aching 10min struggle we again had him near the boat but again he did the bolt but this time he fled to the back of the boat where the prop cut him off. Never mind we said as we were thrilled that we got the chance to see one let alone tangle with one. By this time the sea was starting to get more and more uncomfortable so we decided to head back inside to the bait grounds to pick up some slimeys and target some Spaniards. As we were heading back I put out another hardbody and within only a kilometre from the main beach the daiwa overhead goes off. Faught this fish well, brought him in close enough to see that it was a GT whilst it waived good bye and spat the hook. Another one lost but who cares as it has been a top day already (and yes, still not sick)….. anyway back to the bait grounds and picked up over a dozen slimeys and yakkas then headed to cliff rock ( I think that’s what it’s called). This place is famous for it’s cobia, marlin, GT and Spaniards in close. The area we were trolling the slimeys was not even a kilometre from the headland. 2 slimeys out and after 40mins of trolling it had to happen. A big continous scream of the reel was assurance that it was a Spaniard.. Lucky it was the reel on my side so I picked up the rod and this baby was still screaming and peeling line off like there was no tomorrow. After 15 minutes of sweat and ache I managed to bring him to the side of the boat. A whopping 15kg Spanish mackerel. My first Spaniard, and boy what a feeling. We gaffed the bugger and pulled him aboard and what a sight it was. A massive (in my books that is) Spaniard laid by the side of the boat mouth open full of razor sharp teeth. I wanted another one so we were off again but this time my brothers outfit gets hit. Unfortunately his excitement was short lived after the fish spat the hook but like he said the adrenalin of that fight is still well worth it even if you do loose it. By now it was getting close to 5 so we called it a day and headed back to the beach. sorry but the quality on the spaniard photos are pretty shit as I took them with the phone camera What a day, I don’t normally fish outside but whoever knows me would know that I am new to the outside scene but if this what’s to be expected I may have to start spending more time outside than chasin little breamsters

  20. tuff luck mate, it sux so what will you do, sell the boat unregistered, don't think the buyer would like that mate good luck with it
  21. Bill, your eyesight is better than mine mate, I can't even make it out but can see a fish trap hangin off Ricks boat , that's right there was that crap about you trapping fish hey mate, it's amazing what competition can do to some people Adam
  22. Austalian open bream series Woolwich 3 competitors, MickP in his green hornet, Snag & DuFish in John's boat speaking to GregL in his boat (or it could be Billfish and Richard) Adam
  23. mate, I'd be more inclined to go with a 1500 series. You will find that they are a lighter and smaller reel and will feel more comfortable in size to use another option to consider would be the Daiwa Samurai 1500 7i and/or the Daiwa Caprice. They both retail around the $80-$100 mark and are value for money Adam
