    Woy Woy

Tev, it sounds like you had fun and were relaxed and that of course is the name of the game when on holidays.
  2. good report an welcome to the site
  3. As a guy who has a boat down at Akuna Bay, i am forced to fish out of the general Pittwater area. It is fair to say that every time i go out i see many boats fishing and when you chat to the guys back at the marina, it tends to be the same sorry tale of woe. Now i have followed all the advice in the articles section of the site but catching takers is sometimes quite difficult. I pose a question to you all, is the Pittwater area just fished out? When you look at the reports from the Harbour or Botany Bay, there are lots of substantial fish taken. What do you think?

    Wat To Do

Hmm I think what you would do would depends a lot on where you were. For example, if you launched at Akuna Bay, Rose Bay or the Spit, there are a lot of Marinas there that would let you throw the boat on a berth or a mooring whilst you sorted it out (for a price). If you were in a more remote spot, hmmm i guess you would be reliant on some of the other Fisho's who were there, they would be sympathetic to your situation. In any event i reckon you would swear a real lot and be somewhat "annoyed" with the world. Hope it doesnt happen to any Raider.

    Cowan Creek

Julian, perhaps it is testament to my lack of fishing ability but i have fished that area for 3 years and have never had a decent catch in Cowan, plenty of Taylor and the occasional Flathead and of course, it is dynamite Hairtail territory.
  6. Well, all being well and the wind gods being kind, tomorrow will be a 4.30am start for me down at Akuna Bay and i intend going out into Broken Bay and drifting the flathead grounds. Was also thinking about going out a bit further and see if i can find a king fish or two. Any thoughts?????
  7. Sorry everyone but now have to go to Melbourne and unlikely to be back for the drinks. Stay sober and safe.
  8. If the weather report is to be believed, it sounds like it is going to blow and blow hard. Sounds like my wife will drag me off to chatswood chase again. I hate that place as it costs me money, we go and i pay.
  9. Guys, it seems the thread re the xmas drinks at the pub at chatswood has vanished. I didnt record the details, if anyone did how about sticking it back on. I think it was the 8th at 5.30pm.
  10. with the wind forecast (can we believe it after last weekend?) boating will be out and domestic chores will be in. She who must be obeyed has already booked my baby sitting ability by telling me she is going for a hair cut tomorrow morning. My hair takes 10 minutes, hers takes like 2 hours.
  11. Fabulous catch, makes me wonder why i fish the Hawkesbury, just doesnt seem to be the same level of activity. Any thoughts anyone?
  12. looks like my first wife----after make up was applied
  13. You know, i didnt even know you could eat Tailor. I went out this morning into the Hawkesbury and couldnt stop catching the damn things on SP's, threw them all back because i seem to recall from my childhood that they taste funny. Guess i must have the wrong fish in mind. Thanks for the info and welcome to our site.
  14. Brian, i also cancelled Saturday morning due to the BOM weather report and that is the second time i have been caught in a month. If we ran our business with such poor forecasting, the bank would have closed us years ago.
  15. would love to go fishing bu the wind forcast says different. Probably be dragged down to the shops with the better half.

    Cottage Point

flattys on the northern side with sp's and literally zillions of taylor just inside coal and candle
  17. Hit the water at Akuna Bay at 5am this morning and headed out to West Head, there was a crowd of boats there already, so i anchored up as the southern most boat. Lines were going crazy, i was being constantly hit by damn Wirrah and green eels. Landed a bunch but just sent them back from where they came from. Got fed up with the constant harrassment so after an hour and a half i moved over to the western end of Lion, it was as dead as, so off to a point further down the river i have often looked at. On the way i was treated to a display by 2 dolphins, i stopped the boat and just watched their beauty. After 5 minutes i took off again and anchored up in 18 feet of water. I put out a whole fresh squid on one rod and flicked an SP on the other. Well first off the SP went off so i thought "i was right about this spot" It was a very different sort of a fight but eventually i had it at the boat and there it was, i had caught a bloody turtle. I was so worried i would be done for this that i just cut the line so if anyone sees a large turtle with a gold SP in its mouth, i know nothing! Shortly after i decided to check the squid bait and it was as heavy as blazes, got it up and there was 3/4 of an old barnacled beer bottle on the end. I netted it and lo and behold there was this large octopus in the bottle that had grabbed the squid. I called my wife to ask her if she wanted me to bring it home and somehow it managed to squeeze through the net (that i had hung overboard) at the very instant she said "yes". Reset the line and made a cup of tea when all of a sudden the squid goes off and i watch 200 metres of line peel off the reel like i had hooked a passing speed boat. I tried to reset the drag before the remaining 100 metres vanished, i then start to wind and all of a sudden it is slack. I reeled it in and i had only used 1 hook in the squid and the fish had hold of the bait not the hook. It had simply bit the squid in half as the pressure was applied. I have learnt a lesson today about making sure (i have been told on this site previously) i use multiple hooks. I have caught an 80lb Mackeral off Townsville and whatever this was it felt the equal of that. I am going to go back to this place and i am going to put out multiple squid baits, all with gang hooks. All i all i had a fantastic morning although i am embarrassed about the bloody turtle.
  18. went into the sea food place at terrey hills tonight and what do i see? Cuttle fish for sale by the bag LMAO
  19. Dan, i guess you are right, i have not looked very hard. Never went into a fish shop looking for cuttlefish. Seems you can eat them from what i am reading. All the best
  20. congratulations, that is/was a good squid. Mate, i have never eaten cuttlefish so i cant advise you. For what it is worth, i have never seen it advertised for sale in a fresh fish shop
  21. hawkesbury in the early hours of sat, before the wind rises and then afternoon tea out at a mates at Kellyville. Sun, who knows, knowing my wife i will be working in the garden with my little son jumping on me as i try to pull weeds i seem to cultivate without trying.
  22. for someone who doesnt have pay TV, what is the programme about?
  23. gee guys, i just read this thread after getting back from Melbourne. Sorry to see so many great fishing mates upset by something. Best to just agree to disagree on some things and be happy. We are all dead for a very long time.

    Seasickness

I have never been crook either. Saw a funny thing one day years ago, 3 mates and i were on a large fishing boat out about 20 kms, we left at 4am and 2 blokes on board were into the beer, prawns and whatever, i kid you not they didnt stop eating and drinking from 4am until we got outside. They were loud and brash. The other 13 of us just looked at them in disbelief. I told them they were game blokes but they just laughed at me. When we stopped and drifted (we were fishing for snapper) all of a sudden they went very quiet and before our eyes they both started to turn green. Then they started puking everywhere and couldn't they spew with full bellies. We all pulled out sambos and beers and it made them even crooker. Sooooooo funny. I have not thought about that day for 30 years. See what old age does to you, it makes you reminisce about times long gone.
  25. Hi Lesta, i am sorry not many of us have responded, i guess not too many of us fish that area. All the best and let us know how you went.
