  1. Well done on those Blackies Tom, great photos as well.
  2. Not sure at all but when I got to Oatley and took the boat out it was sitting vertical, probaly would have picked up planes if I was near the airport, no damage though which is good
  3. Well it was my intent today to go to the shelf in search of Yellowfin, however my fishing partner pulled out at the last minute, so a quick change of plan was in order as I was by myself. I decided on a kingy jig session and maybe a bottom bash so off I went, halfway to 12 mile I hit something and the sounder looses bottom, obiviously the transducer was hit, after several failed attempts at fixing it , due to its placement on the Barcrusher, I decided to just drop baits at 12 mile. Anyway dropped the baits and up comes the leatheries, so spent the next couple if hours pulling up jackets and a few pearch, the largest leathery went 475mm, so at least I got a feed happy. I was pretty miffed about the sounder you sure miss them. Weather was to die for.
  4. Unfortunatley have soccer over the weekend , but I have Monday off, so will head out of Botany towards the shelf, if anyone else is doing something similiar let me know.
  5. Congratulations Netic fantastic news.
  6. Sounds like a good day James, good to see the Marlin are still hanging around, always great to see them come up behind the lures. The stripies are fun on the lighter gear.
  7. Nice lot of fish, pity about the weather turning but you still made a day of it.
  8. Mate this link will show you the difference. But in brief the harder the bottom the stronger the signal the thicker the bottom will appear on the screen of the sounder, a soft muddy bottom absorbs the signal so the bottom line appears thinner. Lowrance Tutorial
  9. Great work on the Blue eye Mako great to eat. Unlucky on the Marlin though at least you got some action, you could have put that nice little striped tuna out. Out of curiosity what weight were you using to get to the bottom.
  10. Well done Jessman the Dollies and Striped Tuna put on a great show the lighter gear, I bet you are already making plans to get back out there.
  11. James as I said in my report there was no bait, but there was a good temperature break from about 200 fa out, temp was 21.7 from the shelf to 12km past Browns
  12. James from my trip last week check your leaders and dont troll anything lighter than 24kg, cause the Blues are big, I hope you find bait to work around good luck.
  13. Offtap I have to do my soccer thing tomorrow, plus I went out 3 days in a row this week and will ensure I speak with a much higher voice if an attempt is made.
  14. Heh Mik top report there mate your young bloke sure looks happy is that the lollies or the fish, dont worry it still works even up to 14 at least on my boys. There nice size fish to, I like yellowbelly as long all that fat is trimed off "yuck" I like the choice of words about the as well I might use them in my next report. Jee If the water level gets any lower take a chamois and throw it in the water before you go fishing and pick the fish up off the bottom then squeeze it out to fill it up.
  15. Lauched at Oatlet at We meet up with Reel Addiction to get some livies in the Bay before heading off to Browns at around 7.00am conditions were very good, after a relatively quick trip to Browns we put out a 4 lure spread, the whole way out to Browns we did not spot any bait on the surface or on the sounder. We did several laps around Browns with no results. I decided to head out past Browns, at around 12km east of Browns just over the 500 fathom line we head south water temp is constant 21.7c. We finally had some luck with a Marlin climbing all over our short rigger , We accelerated the boat and the fish switched across to the long rigger came up behind and smack he came flying out the water which provided an fantastic view of the size of the fish, line screamed from the reel which was empting at an alarming rate then nothing, spat the lure. I called it for a blue well over 100kg but I am no expert, I have caught blacks and striped marlin before but this would have been the first for the Barcrusher oh well next time. We did not have another touch all day we did see one free jump right on the shelf and we only saw bait when we were within 3km from Botany heads and sauries were jumping . The wrap up from the day was the lure that ended up being hit was one I had rigged sometime ago using a copper alloy crimp but I had not selected the correct diameter on the crimping pliers and compressed it to much but also I didn’t crimp it correctly “picture attached”, I checked all my other lures and they are ok, I hate tackle failure because of things like this, especially when my sons can blame me for the lost Marlin. Anyway I know my lure spread worked.
  16. Hi Everyone Decided to have an early afternoon fish with my son and father in law, I enjoying being on holidays for this week and gentlemens hours are quite pleasent. The South Easterly was blowing quite strong across the Bay so we snuck into Watts and berleyed hard for a couple of hours, there plenty of leatherjackets small though and heaps of small snapper 25cm, but no keepers. The wind seemed to take a dive at around 3.00pm so we went for a drift towards Brighton in an hour we landed 4 nice Flathead from 60cm to 43cm. My son and father in law were quite happy as was I. Anyway out again tomorrow way outside looking ooglies and anything with beaks and out again in Thursday doing the same Yahoooo!
  17. The strength of knots in braid or what knot to use seems to always draw a lot of questions. The link below from Sports Fishing America details a heap of testing/analysis interesting reading a little surprising. Braid tests

    My New Boat

Mik, Chris is right got a Yammie 150 4 stroke on the back, flat out full of gear and 300 litres of fuel 38.5 knots. Economy is pretty good as well over 2 trips I have done 342 kilometres using 185 litres of fuel. ETTY The only thing I am not happy with is my Navman VHF which is going and will be replaced with an Icom.
  19. Great day with Bob on the water. While we did stop at the close FAD some joker had decided to hold on to it, didnt appear that too much was happening anyway so rather than upset my Karma for the day off we went. As we git closer to Browns we had the stripies smashing the lures. Chris I would have liked to have pulled one those around but I had radio problems and beat a hasty retreat home. Many thanks to "Reel Addiction" for relying a message for me. Out looking at new radios today. Water temp around Browns 21.4 Lets hope the YFT's are just around the corner.
  20. Well done, the livies can be elusive at times. Looks like the Dollies are finally starting to make an appearance.
  21. Red Herring I had one of the first Webster 5.2s, I found the boat quite comfortable and stable. I think that most of the problems I had with the boat have now been fixed which were; It sat low in the water at the stern. There were no steps to get to the anchor at the front of the boat. I now have a 640 Barcrusher so it is a little difficult to compare but the Barcrusher certainly give a lot for your dollar
  22. NSW dealer is Blakes Marine
  23. He sure looks happy, great to have soon time with the kids and fishing is the best way to spend that time fish or not, better luck next time
  24. BalmainBob I have 640 Barcrusher slightly larger than the one you are looking at but they are a true fishing machine, they handle great are comfortable and stable. Go for a test drive you will be wrapped. If you have any specific questions let me know.
  25. Thats a top effort considering the conditions well done
