Arose at 6am for a quick flick through the moorings with a mate. It was raining lightly and slight wind, perfect for drifting. We set off the 100mtrs or so to spot X outside the water police stn, rigged up a lime and pink grub and with the first cast dropped my grub right next to the pylon, it sunk down and BANG Im on!!.I called it for a bream but it was giving me a bit of stick so I said to my mate I think this is a biggie, get the net. After a couple of spirited runs I managed to bring my fish to the boat and as I have never seen an EP before, I think to myself, shit its a barra. My mate kindly reminded me that we dont have barra in sydney....duuuuu. With that all cleared up, I thought of Trung and the light went on.. EP baby. New species and PB. High fives all around and a warm glowing feeling. I think pittwater is starting to wake up.

Yummmmm, Give them a go bro. When I was a kid my old man would buy a 30lb drum of them. We would know then, that some great feeds were comin' up. You can also soak them and fry them up, that was my fav'. ..... http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/food-wine/recipes/2385743/Deep-south-delicacy

thx for the replies, and the jury is still out..The choices are enormous and i dont want to buy a lemon. Im coming from a hummingbird pirhana, it worked but a dunk in the water solved that problem.

Im in the market for a new fishfinder and wondered if anyone can to give me some advice on their experience with the newer models. I am willing to pay up to $350. I have done a bit of research and am leaning towards a lowrance MK5 pro with a mono screen or the DSI model. The info i researched online seemed to state that they are all basically the same and it was the bells and whistles that raised the cost. Ok, so what bells and whistles are essential, remembering that I fish mainly pittwater and middle harbour (the heads on a good day)with the odd sojourn into botany bay.I would like down scan so that means a split screen I s'pose. I have a 14ft tinnie and I will target anything. Any advice will be most welcome

I dont know about indo but I took reels to the philipines with no drama. I also bought a rod travel case which saved any damage done to my rods, but that needs to go to the over size section at the airport (extra hassle)..Dont bother trying to take your reels in your hand luggage, just put them in your stowed luggage and no hassles..Good luck in Indo

Look to go over to the Coromandel peninsular for snapper. Fishing great barrier island is a must for the BIG kings'.. there is a charter that goes from Tairua that will sort you out. Contact "Dhype"(raider name) for the name of company.

nice work!! what sort of baits and gear were you using to get the flatties?
We use plastics, any plastics. The only stipulation I recommend is that your plastic have little wiggley bits on it. And we were casting into the weed and dragging out on to the sand flat or casting on to the beach and dragging into the deeper water. Worked a treat. Im finding the plastic awesome in the shallower water and the bait is coming up with the goods in deeper water at the moment. My gear was an 850 abu garcia reel packed with 6lb mono and 12 lb leader connected to a 1kg/2kg flick stick. Its been my weapon of choice, and heaps of fun when you hook up to decent sambos'.

Got up and checked weather( looked out the window)Couldn't see the wind forcast by our reliable weather people, so opted to risk it.After leaving Bayview at around 8, no use rushing things. A quick conference on what to target, it was decided to flattie out. So off to lion Island and a flick around the shore line. Picked up 1 there at 38cm and dropped 2. It was then decided to try patonga, so a quick move and promptly 2 more over the side, both 38 too. Then it was the creeks turn to give us another 2 at 40cm.And all this time the weather was awesome. Hooked up with a mate and shot over to the hawksberry and a drift over the flat around the corner from juno for our biggest yet, 42cm. And that was it. Pulled the pin about 3pm, and got home for 5.A few beers and beer battered flatties with creamed potatoes. Who says life aint good.......tight lines..

Hahahaha.. There is only 1 problem with that scheme.. The bloody dpi change the goal post every couple of years. After 30 yrs of fishing..Well you get the picture.

-
Im lookin' in the background and the weather is lookin' beautiful.. Fish and good weather, does it get any better??
-
Wouldn,t take the risk of any heater in a boat ,i find the idea quite scary just wear full set of thermal clothing +++++ extra warm clothing , couple of flasks of hot packet soups +++ 2 beanies and your set
And just keep fishing
Ditto.....Heater????..It'll be a cold day in hell before i do that one.
a leak and the bottom of the boat fills with gas

I went back to my spotX yesterday and dropped the same grub into the same spot and dragged this out. It went 43cm. Is that big?. I have no idea of what size they even get to. But i did eat the damn thing and I will be catch and release from now on.
