    Regards Jeff

Never a truer word said.... I have been absolutely smashing the tailor 45+ and bonnies 50+ off barrenjoey this week with a little Abu 850 on a tiny flick stick.. You cant have more fun than that......or can you??

  4. Aussie salmon is best prepared by first bleeding on capture. Once at home just fillet and skin the fish, add your herbs and spices as needed, cooked medium well done and then finally take it outside and feed the cat. :biggrin2:

No cats eating my fishcakes, thats for sure. I just had them for lunch.Mmmmm Trung, that sounds like a comp' to me, just name the place and time and it will be our pleasure to meet and beat you. Im sure my mate Groper would like a shot at the title too....lol. Lets say middle harbour on a date to be decided.

  5. Thanks for a great day out Alan.Just to put the story straight though, I have never out fished Alan in the many times we have been fishing, but yesterday I had the wood on him. I had the most and the biggest. I even had a double hook up with 2 flatties going 45/50. But would he just lie down......Noooooooo. He came back with that stonker Im holding and another 50+,and just to round things off he drags the mowie out. Aww well there always next time ..lol.

IT is the Great Sydney Harbour barramundi mystery - and well-meaning but misguided Buddhists practising an ancient good luck ritual are responsible.

From the Parramatta River to Darling Harbour, the Spit Bridge to Manly, bemused anglers have found barramundi - the tropical fish whose nearest natural habitat is central Queensland - swimming lethargically on the surface.

Last weekend, two were scooped up in Darling Harbour by fishermen. Two weekends before, Mario Benedict was chasing bream near Clarkes Point when he spotted a strange fish.

"It was swimming really slowly and I thought it was a leatherjacket but when we went over in the boat and I scooped it out with our landing net I knew straight away it was a barra," the 27-year-old from Concord said yesterday.

Barramundi were also discovered in February and March at Manly, the Spit Bridge, Rose Bay and Darling Harbour.

It was first believed the fish had been released into the Harbour by radical animal rights activists or a fishkeeper whose pets had outgrown their tanks.

But all the barramundi have been the size of fish bred in fish farms for the restaurant market.

State Fisheries pointed the finger at Buddhists carrying out an ancient ritual called Tsethar - and it has condemned the fish to a slow death because the Harbour waters are too cold.

Tsethar involves saving the lives of "animals that are doomed to be killed".

    :wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko:

Hahahahahahaha.......Now doesnt that just take the cake.

  8. You know the stories boys, its all good fun till someone loses an eye :biggrin2: .But not today.Thanx Basil, a good day out and this time we get the bonus fish too :yahoo: . Light gear.Ya gotta just love it.

  9. Im always in the creek if Im in the area and never missed out yet. I find the dropping tide to be the best time for me. But getting the boat in and out can be a problem. Ive had to get out and push it a couple of times (too busy fishing and not watching the tide)

  10. Went for a fish around the spit this morning, started off on the north side saw heaps of tailor, bonito, a groper etc. a couple of uninterested nibbles and that was it. couldn't even entice them with a plastic (I was on bait, my mate was on plastics). walked over to the southern side and tried in among the boats, sun was nice and more sheltered from the southerly but no hookups. could even see whiting mucking around in the sand and looking at our hooks but not hungry! had a chat with a guy fishing off the sewer works there and he had been there for about 8 hours and caught a blue swimmer crab by fluke, and no other bites despite 3 lines in the water.

amazed to see so many fish around that wouldn't take a hook. I even threw my bait out afterwards and the toadfish sniffed at it and wouldn't have a go! now that's when you know they are off the bite.

    Ahhhh, The joys of fishing
