  1. Hmmmmm correct except tidiest isn't an issue really.........

This goes way beyond the tackle box. The angler usually has a whole part of the house just for the tackle and anything to do with fishing. This is normally a garage, a shed, a man cave you know how it goes.

When other likeminded people visit they disappear to the "special area" for several hours where the lures and tackle are inspected for their prettiness, newness, how many hit marks, size of hooks, sharpness of hooks etc

The stories will be related about each lure and the amount and type of captures.

Those anglers that are inventive will show items they have constructed like rod holders and the like.

They may even have casting practise and load up rods to test.

Interesting that no-one is putting pics up isn't it :biggrin2: they are also very protective of their um tackle

Lol.... I dont think its they are protective. Its more to the point that someone doesnt see just how much gear they have....My missus would have a fit if she knew just how much my gear cost

  2. I did the same on my 14 ft tinnie about a year ago. Damn brilliant. Under the gunwal is the trick, nothing to dazzle you at night but plenty of light. You can buy them at any length, any number of lights. And power consumption is almost nil compared with other lighting, but best of all is the price. I bought mine online for under ten bucks for 20 led's..including postage.

  3. Headed out from Roseville with fellow fishraider Pete. It was my first trip for a while after a back op and I had been waiting for a while for the breeze to drop. We gave Grotto Point where we usually give the squid a go a miss because of the heavy swell and for the same reason kept out from North Head a bit when we tried a troll around there. No surface fish around, although a seal had found his breakfast and was tossing a large fish around just inside North Head.

Headed out to DY wide where the flathead are usually around at this time but it was a bit quite and we managed only 3 marbled flathead, 3 good mowies, a nice red rock cod, a good sized sampson fish, a sweep, a king sized jacket, and a maori wrasse before the wind came up about 11am.

Not a lot of fish but a good morning on the water. A few dolphins around and some flocks of Albetross feeding on the Cuttlefish which die off at this time of year.

Yep a nice way to break the drought Alan.....Lookin' forward to the next time

  4. Come over and get my boat bro,I cant stand to see you reduced to walkin' for a fish...lol. And if your interested the salmon are like a blanket in pitty of an arvo.. I went out the other day and was smashing 3/4kg sambo's with my flick stick. I left when I just couldnt reel 'em in anymore..

  5. Basil....Hahahaha,i did go back to that area the next night too...

Morg's ... Yeah a six pack of OP rums

Jewdreamer...My wife has been a fishing widow for a while now..pml

And I just didnt know why people target them, once you eat 'em there is no going back..

  6. The boys rang me for a quick arvo flick and it was the first day in ages that I had time(curse you work)So we took off from Bayview at around 4 with an esky full of beer and high hopes. Little did we know what was about to go down.We trolled down through the moorings to stokes point and came up blank, moved on down to our flattie spot and rigged up with pillies and peeled prawn...donut.... The wind was up and we hadn't had a bite except for pickers so it was time to move , we moved around the corner and headed for flint and steel. Dave was driving the boat and pulled up before flint and steel, after much muttering of wtf theres nothing here ive fished this section heaps.Dave then proceeded to tell us this jewie story and there was a hole hereabouts (unconfirmed cos someone stole my sounder during the week) so out went the pillies and prawn again. The squid turned up and we caught one on a gang hook. He was promptly ganged and sent out, only to be smashed by a salmon which in turn engulfed Stevies pillie and swam all around our 3 lines. Getting that undone was a nightmare(thx Dave)So now we are laughing and out went the pillies, no prawns. We were talkin' about jewies and i said that any jewie would be a PB for me. Not 5 minutes later my kingie setup bent over and line started peeling off it, managed to get it out of the holder and let it run for a few sec's and struck. Im on!!.. Well this thing just took off in a straight line, heading for patonga. i can feel the big swish of the tail and I knew straight away that its a jewie and a big'un too. After a few runs I can feel it tiring so I start to haul it in. It didnt struggle too much until it saw the boat and then it went nuts. I played it safe and let the drag off a fraction and after another 5 minutes got it back to the boat. Now we need to gaff this mother, Dave had a couple of swipes at it, got the gaff entangled in my braid and

i thought this is it its gonna break the braid and it will be the one that got away. The fishin' god was on our side and after a couple of swipes he gaffed it and it was in the boat. High 5s all around and this baby was mine...Now that is the way to get your first jewie. Dont know how long or what it weighs and dont care either.. You decide

  7. don't know but they are slow coming back to the southern moreton bay islands and water is still fairly discoloured on the out going tide.in five trips over the last month have scored a zero for trip one, another zero for trip 2 but put back 3 sand flatties and 5 duskies , a 68cm flathead on trip 3 plus 20 odd bream, tarwhine that were 1 or 2 cm short of legal, a lone whiting 34cm on trip 4, released back to the wild as i had nothing else to make a decent feed, and last friday a small shark,a bream and a forktail catfish, the catty was very tasty after being in the bay waters ,plus 2 snapper that were 31 cm plus that have to go back to grow some more.noticed a lot more turtles than usual, all 3 species working the channels between the islands, silt from the floods must be deep on the bottom of the bay.prawns are firing at present, some locals i talked with said they have been getting 5 or 6 kilos a session.hope the fish thicken in number for winter.

Just wish they would hurry up.. Im planning a trip up there as soon as your reports get better. Is accomodation still the same price??
