  1. Hey RichieR Mate I guess it's the same as any fishing depends if the fish are around. Yesterday I was constantly changing retrives I got the flatty when I wound the reel fast for around 5 pumps then pause and repeat all the way back in.
  2. Great fish mate, Not a bad effort at all for 3 hrs fishing.
  3. Hey Raiders, just went for an afternoon spin along wanda beach looking for a taylor or two…… no taylor, but a flathead came up for an enquiry he went 55cm might change to a large vibe if I give it a hit tomorrow.
  4. holly crap guys…. where are you getting on to them ….. general area?

  10. Big thanks to all those who contributed to the Jewfish Tactics Forum. and good luck to anyone chasing these fish they are worth it!!!!!!!!
  11. hey raiders, Well this one has been coming for a while. I started my quest for a jewie around a year ago and only just purchased a setup to seriously target them, I must have read the JEWFISH TACTICS from start to finnish about a million times. I packed all the stuff into the ute this morning fresh after giving my reels a minor service yesterday and so I was feeling good, the weather report on the other hand was a bit blowy so I was trying to think of places to get out of the wind. I was ready to fish bait or SP so I guess I would just decide when I got on the water. I was on the water around 810 and the wind was only just bare able when I was able to get behind some structure to block it. I initially decided to put the anchor out and hang back from the structure and cast my SP's out towards it or beside it. after snagging three times and re rigging I decided to pull anchor and drift around a bit using the double hop method I was working the base of the structure going from one piece of structure to the next. after about one hour I casted my SP right up next to this wall and let it sink down gave it one double hop and then when i went for the next one I thought oh great Iv snagged myself again and then ZZZZZZZZZZZ and massive head shakes I was thinking holly crap have I actually hooked one????? yeh Im pretty sure I have. Ok now i just gotta get it in the net so I got the net ready and sat it on my lap. as I was fighting it i could feel like a grinding action and I thought there might be some rocks below me and by now my adrenaline was through the roof I was talking myself through what I was doing when i got my first glimpse of the fish I was first of all glad it was a Jew and glad I had hooked it on my 4-7 kg rod and not the 2-5 that I was using earlier. when it got to the surface it wasn't ready to go in the net and took another run the second time i got it up I still couldn't believe I had hooked one and then came the first real attempt to get it in the net I lifted my rod tip up and his head came out of the water and he didn't like that either so went for another run, by this time i had figured out what the grinding was it was the leader rubbing on its teeth. I calmed myself down and thought through what I was going to do….. I got him to the surface again and grabbed the trace, opened the bail arm, put the rod in its holder, lead the trace and the fish into the net (which didn't fit) and lifted it onto my lap. I can't explain how happy I was. I was so stoked. my next thought was ok I need a picture, geez I wonder if its legal its gonna be close…… close wasn't the word!!!!!! so I put him in my keeper net and attached it to the yak and paddled to the nearest piece of land that I could stand on and get some decent pics I beached the yak and got the brag mat and laid it down. I s#@t you not it was 69.9cm which Im sure if I was pulled up I would of been able to stretch it the last bit, but that wasn't the point I couldn't do it so I netted it again and by this time the wind had picked up and the chop was washing into the yak and I was soaked from head to toe I paddled over to near where I caught him because the water that was washing up on the beach was dirty as, he was now full of life so i lifted him out of the net and layed it on my lap and grabbed my long nose pliers and struggled to get the jig and SP back but did so and then layed him back in the water and he took off as faster than I could believe and I felt like I had made a mistake but I know I had done the right thing. I can't wait to catch my next one !!!!!! I was using one of the Squidgy 100mm fish in the dark colour with the speckles in it. 1/4 TT headlock jighead 30lb leader 22 lb main line ( which I think I might go to 30 lb) 4-7 kg rod 4000 diawa reel the tide was at it lowest point right at the turn of the tide. I was fishing the lower George's cheers
  12. good work mate, I bet your proud as punch.
  13. hey guys does any one know the general movements of jewies….. i.e. the bloke at my tackle store has said that the jews will be around headlands mouths of rivers/ creeks as they follow the mullet run that is going on at the moment… so does this mean if its true that in summer they tend to be up stream? and in winter down stream? just trying to figure out where I am going to target them?
  14. Yeh I was trying all different retrieval rates…… constant fast/slow, hard rips with pauses, 3 or 4 winds and pause. I just think they had there food source and they weren't going to eat anything else. I actually went back today and had a good hit from one (I assume) on the squigdy SP gave me one or two big runs then turned towards me as as i took up the slack he had spat the hook. ahhh well another day.
  15. hey raiders, I decided yesterday that i needed to get out of the house for a bit as iv been rested up after having my knee operated on so I threw the rods in the car and went for a drive down to the cooks river parked the car and hobbled over to the river. the tide was almost at its lowest point so began casting around the pillions with my SP squidgy fish. nothing came of that after 30mins so i began moving further towards the mouth. systematically moving every 10mins or so untill i seen some bait fish jumping and i began to focus my energy in that area. then i seen what was making them jump it was a pair of frigate macs or bonito… not sure. geese they were quick i seen them move about 200m in about 10-15 secs and when i put my SP in their face they just swam around it….. I changed SP to a white jerk shad and received the same results. I then changed to a halco twisty at which time the pair had moved on and I decided I should do the same as my leg was starting to give me a bit of grief. all in all it was good to just get out of the house for a bit of fresh air and sunshine. enjoy
  16. I used to fish cronulla regularly and although the beach is a relatively short walk I would still go to wanda to avoid the crowds and surfers. once you get there talk any of the access paths to the beach and once you get to the end of the path stop and look at the gutters and then look at the affect the swell is having on the gutter (which way the current is going and which way the wind is going = which way will my line hang) and where do i have to stand to have my bait in the right spot. my most popular catch has been flathead, taylor, salmon, bream in that order. best baits are worms, nippers, prawns, pillys. hope this helps
  17. hey raiders Headed out from the airpot ramp yesterday around 11 and the conditions were beautiful once we got out into the open water we put a few small skirts out and trolled out to the FAD one the way out we got 2 55cm dollies. once at the FAD we did a few laps then seen some surface action so we headed over and put out a few unweighted pillies and oiler the next 4 hours we got another 10 undersized dollies, and one that went 65cm all of which were taking the baits in a weird way it was similar to pickers eating your bait ….. tiny little "tap tap" almost like a vibration then after 30seconds give it a strike and your on and all of them were like dead weight until they seen the boat or the net. trolled back in getting another 2x 55cm models. the water was beautiful and at one point completely glassed out. great day for it. tight lines
  18. hey Paikea, yeh mate as i was packing up the day I caught the snapper, I got chatting to a bloke who was a chef that was giving me a bit of guidance as to how to cook it hole and I did just as he said and I must say he was right on the money. the tomato, garlic and onion in with the fish as it cooked in the oven had the juices it was cooking in were so sweet. made for a good dinner. cheers
  19. mega jealous mate!!!!!! you always clean up, well done.
  20. sorry for the delay heres how i have set up that attachment line
  21. hey raiders, I headed out at about 1130 today just as there was a deceptive break in the wind. followed a few of the channel markers throwing soft plastics around as I went had a few chewed to bits Taylor I suspect, I was hunting a bream or two so I moved over to some mored boats and had a few casts around them. as the wind was picking up i just cast at the side of the boat and let the drift drag the lure away from the structure. as the wind was picking up i started fishing my way home, one cast at an old rickety boat and a drift away and then my for was nearly ripped out of my hand and I thought i got the bream of a life time here….. and then as he surfaced for the first time i was gladly surprised with a nice pink skin instead of the silver i was expecting. oh well good for a feed anyway. he ended up measuring 32cm i was using a 1-3 kg rod, 2500 reel, 8lb braid, 6lb fluorocarbon leader, 1/12 jig head, 2" worm in the sand worm colour. photos to follow cheers
  22. Hey Nats, Mate where were you fishing? The mrs and I went for a swim yesterday and there was a ripper channel running parallel to the beach from north cronulla along the wall and at the northern end of the wall there was a promising looking gutter running out to sea. Better luck next time mate
  23. I actually just used the plastic saddles that are already there for the sides and then throught the handle loop and back down the same saddles on the other side, starting and finnishing at the equipment D rigs at the rear. Once I eventually get my sounder I'll be going throught the same trials as you, but by then You'll have the R'n'D covered. Cheers Wash
  24. Hey Greynurse and all, Mate thanks for the ideas as you know I have the same yak, I'm gonna be doing the same to mine the first chance I get. Other things iv done as well is run a line the entire way around the top of the yak starting at the back, up one side going throught the loops to the front Handel and back down the other side through the same loops on the other side to Finnishing at the same spot as it started on the opposite side. What this provides is a line to attach anything that needs to be lanyarded to the yak and it can slide up and down the line freely between the attachment points. I'll get some photos up so you can see what I'm on about.
