  1. yeah i will be using it for baitfishing mainly is Pat who has lisp? if thats the person he's served me a few times and gave out pretty good info and not the typical salesman who just wants to sell.
  2. how wrong was i about lilli pilli. my team manager managed to catch a bonito thanx Watto! i still haven't caught anything on them yet but i haven't given up!
  3. i thought they were pretty light. i was at complete angler villawood one day and the owner bought it immediately from a daiwa rep that visited them earlier. he even let me have a play with it. too bad i didn't get to put it on a rod.
  4. I haven't caught anything at Lilli Pilli lately, so i'm trying somewhere else. I think all the Bonitos has finally gone. I might go back when the cooler water comes in and try getting salmon. Right now its warmer to be in the water than on land. But I'll be heading to Kurnell tomorrow. Never fished there before so i'm going to see whats it like.
  5. Hey Greg I'm going to use it as medium tackle and chase kings with it around the bay...if only i could hook onto one
  6. There are so many hooks to choose from i get a bit confused when i look at the shelf Do you choose hooks to suit the bait or suit the fish? i do roughly know hook size for the fish though baits i mainly use are: Pilchards (cut or full) Prawns Bread Squid (Live or stripped) Yellowtail (Live) Could someone give me a general guide as to which hooks to choose?
  7. i'd like to know about lure fishing too a casting workshop would be good too. i was unfortunate that i joined the forum just after the previously held workshop. i see people with similar outfits that cast further and accurate than i do.
  8. i've been looking into certate hyper 4000 but plat.co.jp says it has "air metal" housing which is Daiwa's way of saying made of magnesium. I don't care how much coating they put on i still don't want an expensive reel anywhere near salt water. But at another tackle store told me to go with certates because they're made of aluminium. However, i'm not sure if he was referring to normal certates or the hypers
  9. steamed with soy, black bean and chilli. simple! keeps the flesh moist as well
  10. another point to add, because of the 1:1 ratio, alveys are no good for lure fishing if high speed retrieve is required.
  11. I've never had experience with rods other than fiberglass, so I'm hoping other Raiders could tell me how different the four of them feels. I basically want to know which out of the four gives the best casting distance. I'm asking this because I am up for a new rod seeing I've snapped mine over the weekend. This time i want a really really really good one and none of those cheapies at the mart. I'm only after smaller pelagics. I mainly want a spinning rod that maximizes casting distance just so i can increase my playing field. I want it to be light, about 2-4kg and can cast 7-15gm metal lures maybe 20gm as well. i don't think i'll be doing much bait fishing with it. It'll be mainly used landbased but i don't want it to be longer than 8' because occasionally i do a bit of fishing from a boat. i think my budget can extend to $300. i wouldn't mind going custom as long as i know which material i should pick as a blank. I'm known to buy things on an impulse so this time i'm finding out as much as i could. Actually I've read from fly fishing websites saying graphite does improve casting distance but doesn't say roughly by how much. I've asked about graphite at a tackle store and they said it would. But it sounded like going to a Hyundai dealer and asking if it drives faster than a Ferrari and the dealer would of course say yes. So I'm not convinced. (exaggerated i know but you get the drift).
  12. it was definitely fun on light tackle. it was caught on 6lb braid. i think i could of went lower hehe we've just finished dinner and everyone liked eating the fish. sure the flesh is dry and rough but i like it that way. the flesh is actually quite tasty or maybe it was mum's cooking skills hehe also, catching your own fish seems are bit more tastier. the squid was stir fried with chinese broccoli and mum added poached prawns in water with chilli soy as dipping. good on ya mum!!!
  13. Woke up at 5am and was still deciding whether I should go out or not. My mind kept saying whats the point as i haven't caught anything during the last 3 days and each time i would come home all wet, cold and disappointedly fishless. After lying in my bed for 50min i decided to go. I arrived there around 6:15am and one bloke was already there flicking SP without luck and hasn't seen anything zooming past. Anyways i started chucking out my lure without much success and nothing was chasing it. After half an hour of casting i saw squids right under the jetty, quickly dropped my jig down and got myself a nice squid. After squirting ink everywhere, friends of the squid swam away and never saw them again. Back to some casting with the lure and about 7am saw big splashes at the far corner of the bathes. So me and another different bloke started continuously casting at that corner but they were gone soon after. Again back to some lazy casting but this time i got a hookup but it definitely did not feel like a big fish because previous days i have hooked onto baby snappers and thats how it felt like on the initial hookup. But once it realized it was hooked it was really fighting hard. I got it near the jetty and i was so worried it was heading for the pylons each time it made a run but luckily the fish kept changing directions before it reached the pylons. Fought with fish for a moment and one of the guys helped me netted the fish. I was so excited to have finally landed this fish after trying for so many weekends. Many thanks to him for helping me out. Theres no way i could of brought this fish up. Anyways the fish ended up being approx 41cm. Have you noticed i have not named the fish? thats because i still don't know what it is exactly. Doesn't look like a Frigate Mackerel or a Bonito or a Mackerel Tuna or maybe it is and all the Internet pictures are wrong

    Wharf

at lilli pilli you must keep it on the surface and moving otherwise it will be shredded.
  15. seeing that school finishes at 3:!5pm, i think you're not getting enough homework
  16. i've gotta try find that book! i know gary brown knows the south quite well. but i doubt it'll be easy to ask him to help me out
  17. I've done a bit of searching and i've found most of the rock fishing topics are done upwards from North Head in Sydney. Not much has been mentioned south of Sydney, except a mention in kurnell. As places from South Head onwards to the Royal National Park are closer to me it'll be easier for me to get to. However, i don't know which spots are fishable. Can rock fishing be read like beach fishing? If so what do i look out for that will produce some good fish like kingies for example? I've always thought any rock fishing spot is a good spot but apparently not. I went to Blue Fish Pt and i looked to the left around the point, there were rock platforms that were almost sea level and i was told that spot was not good for fishing even though it looked perfect. I've walked around Kurnell from Inscription Point to Yena Gap and it all looks good except the obvious spots where rocks are exposed right in front. I want to know what to look for so i can fish this area as its very close to me. I do hope Yena is a good spot because last time i went there it was quite rough and still it was quite safe to fish. It seems to be quite deep as well.
  18. yea this sunday is out for me. but thanx for the offer i wonder if there is a misunderstanding in my post? its nice that there are people offering a spot to join their trips. but what i meant is are there charters that just take small groups and form it into one large one. each group not necessarily acquainted with each other. it would be good if there are these types of charters. this mean i could easily set a date and go anytime i want. also me and my mates are rarely in sydney at the same time.
  19. I'm looking to join a charter with other fishos. I only have two other people who are interested in fishing and thats not enough to book out a boat for ourselves or otherwise its too expensive. The cheapest i've seen is Scotty Lyons charter for small groups which maybe worth considering but wondering if there are cheaper options. Are there any charters that joins different small groups into large one? Anywhere between Hawkesbury to Port Hacking is fine thanx
  20. thanx for the suggestions but i went to a tackle store and held some live fibre rods and i can really feel the difference so nearly bought it on an impulse
  21. Today at work i got to spoke to someone who i found out is a keen beach angler. He told me he went thru a course with alex bellisimo and said worth every cent. Especially for people who only has the weekend to fish. It cuts time experimental and learning time by light years. Now i'm going to do the same. I'm just not patient or have the time to teach myself how to beach fish I've had a go with alvey once and i think i'm capable to learn and use it properly. I really don't want to get second hand or use the basics. I just want to get the best for my application and pay for it once only. My main target is jewfish from the beach. So which reel and rod combo would be best to handle a large jewie? and of course every other fish that comes along? I've had a look at 6500BCVRR and MT1449W. What do you guys think? Is it adequate for the occasional rock fishing trip as well (if i ever find someone to go with)
  22. I like to steam my fish like they do at chinese restaurants. Steaming usually goes well with fish that has a smooth texture such as bream or barramundi. Its also very simple! Steaming doesn't go well like garfish or snapper Lay the whole fish on a plate, sprinkle ginger, spring onion and a pinch of salt. Place in a steamer for 7-10min depending size of fish. Just when its about done, pour 2-3 tablespoons of cooking oil and soy sauce in a sepearate saucepan until very hot. Then pour over the fish and serve.
  23. My fiancee reckons i should get serious about fishing and she wants to buy me a shimano twin power 2500. But i would also need a rod to mate it up with. She thought i could use the ones i have but i reckon i should get something excellent to match it up with. What i have now are cheapies i bought when ***** had sales on them. I really have no idea how to pick a good rod from a dud rod. So i need your help ladies and gentlemen! I mainly fish around Port Hacking and Georges River and i am land based. In some places i fish have submerged rock in front, would i need a long rod like 12 foot to overcome constant snagging? I don't really have a target species as i've pretty much caught most types on my el cheapo combo. The largest fish i've ever caught was a 45cm salmon at lilli pilli. That was only once though. I guess the rod would be general purpose. Something that is light but strong enough to fight a salmon or a kingfish that many people has talked about
  24. How do you setup your outfit for distance casting? do i need a long rod or heavy sinkers? As i am land based, I basically want to cast near the pylons at Captain Cook Bridge with a setup as light as possible. I know technique is important too but i want to see if i can cast far if i start with a good setup and work from there. Its not for beach fishing as well, i mainly want to make long casts in estuaries like reaching the sand at lilli pilli
  25. will there be another casting workshop in the near future? wished i joined earlier and attended the one held before
