  1. i bought the tiagra at 47 parkes st jordan. he's kinda like a shimano dealer so he gives big discounts. i have his email address if you want. he used to be a mech. engineer so he knows reels very well and english is not a problem. ships OS but he's figuring best way to accept OS money. i might try to convince him to use paypal so i can pay via credit card without the hefty conversion fees.
  2. i'm still in hk and still buying gear i just bought myself a tiagra 30a for $460aud, not that i know what to do with it hehe they just had to get rid of them coz no one buys them so i helped out. bought 2 saltiga rods too, approx $670aud for both. now i'm screwed coz dunno how to bring them back. bought a 2500R luvias. was tempted to buy a daiwa dogfight. they go for abt $750aud i noticed williamson jigs are cheaper than ones in aussieland. are they made in china?
  3. from those youtube vids, a biatcaster seems to be the choice. but when i see the japanese they all use spinning reels achieving similar distances. but i reckon no matter what gear you use, technique is the key. ie learning to do the pendulum cast. i'm still hoping someone will come along and teach me that one.
  4. i got a sony dvd player whilst telling the poem of "Peeter Peeter pumpkin eater" to my niece out at Auburn for $140. Good player too!
  5. motionflow is just a way to making fast pictures smoother by substituting frames. has nothing to do with your dvd player. if your old dvd player has upscaling then its fine. i had to buy a new player with upscaling. i was so eager i didn't want to wait for my ps3 to arrive.
  6. http://www.innovatorrods.com/rod-insurance-open.htm warning from nitro rods
  7. i like the bimini to a twisted leader. theres no bulging knot so it doesn't bash through the guides
  8. pan fried with flour is nice just don't like all the small bones
  9. i've got a shakespeare pvc and thinking it might get hot but really when you're in the water, you don't feel the heat. the only problem i have is, its very easy to puncture and it gets a bit heavy on long fishing session. i think my next waders would be neoprene
  10. just realised i need a dvd player with upscaling oh wells...gotta wait for my ps3 to arrive
  11. i just got myself a sony lcd (just had to because it comes with a free ps3). i was wondering if i could configure it to get the best out of my dvd movies? can't believe it wasn't too long ago we were amazed with dvd quality video and now it looks like watching pirated dvds. can't wait to get my ps3 to watch blu-ray movies.
  12. dude, where were you when i asked what were the PE diameters in this thread? could of saved me the hassle. if i had known that formula i wouldn't of had to find the table going by your example, i knew its not good to just assume PE4 = 40lb breaking strain. Because if you look at Fins, 50lb has diameter of 0.33mm. thats why i tried to find what the PE rating truly meant, but it was hard going through japanese translation in babel fish. but now i know, i could also calculate how much line could fit on a reel
  13. http://www.duel.co.jp/catalogue/y_squid/cat_y_squid.html i stumbled upon this looking for squid jigs. not exact but similar. a few mods should do.
  14. PE is short for PolyEthylene usually a number trails PE. ie PE6 PE8. the japanese usually use this to rate their gear. the number represents the diameter of the line. but because people other than the japanese don't know what it really represents, most have just assumed PE6 equals to 60lb or PE8 equals to 80lb.
  15. i don't know where you're staying but here's my little tip with excess baggage. HK airport is on Lantau Island, miles away from the main hub. The airport express stops at the following stations Tsing Yi, Kowloon and HK Island (Central). Each of these stops have flight check-in stations (saves you from carrying luggage all the way to the airport). Goto these hours ahead of your flight. Pack as much as you can even if its 35kg per piece (it worked for me once but that was during off peak). Whatever you can't take on, run-off to postal office and send it home. Its good that way because it saves you money and the rest of the time left in HK you don't have to worry about your main luggage You might wanna consider getting Japanese fluorocarbon because that too would be cheaper
  16. clothes peg...what a great idea!
  17. goto Mong Kok, thats where locals go for heavily discounted stuff all my computers, electronics, clothes, phones, big boyz toys, car parts and fishing gear of course were bought from there i don't know the street names but i suggest explore all of Mong Kok. I reckon for a first timer, it'll take a day and it'll be worth if you love your shopping. Avoid buying stuff in tourist areas like Tsim Sha Tsui because they'll rip you off. But still take a look though. Suggest you buy a pocket map for $20HKD from the airport. Otherwise Mong Kok looks like a mess Buy lures! My friend got heaps of quality Japanese squid jigs real cheap. hk is like japan out of japan, so you'll basically see quality japanese gear. don't be surprised to see big game gear too! I suggest shipping some gear...postal is cheap. i always ship the stuff that check-in won't allow me to carry.
  18. i've been using sliding snell on a boat where i just drop the bait. but i tried using it landbased as well but the top hook keeps sliding down when i cast my whole squid. how do i stop it from sliding?
  19. i heard mono or butter bream make good livies when you're desperate! oh and they taste good too.
  20. http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=24511 female version in the thread
  21. i've formed the bimini twist but i'm talking about the leader. just to be sure we're talking about the right section of the rig. i've used a cup hook held into a drill to twist the leader. after doing the twists, do i just half hitch the legs? and when i take the loop end off the cup hook, how do stop that from untwisting?
  22. went fishing on the weekend and saw someone's rig with a Bimini twist cats pawed onto a twisted leader. i liked it so much because it was streamlined as in the knots doesn't bash through the guides like a double uni knot. so i spent every spare minute i had over the weekend trying to tie this rig. everything went ok except i forgot to ask how to stop the twisted leader from untwisting itself? what should i do after making the twists?
  23. First full year fishing and i've caught 54cm Salmon 48cm Bonito 42cm Watson's Leaping Bonito 25cm Bream 50cm Sand Flathead xxcm Snapper Squid and hooked onto a Mako according to Ross Hunter These has been very expensive fish though! I think coupla hundred dollars per fish hahaha Oh wells i see it as start up costs
