  1. lol lol lol funny as "I don't know of any good fisherman that does", neither do I !!!!! Guys no real need to try to find any justification for that stuff, there is none, the only reason why you'd do that is because you have an "allrounder" reel spooled with 10 lb or whatever and sometimes target "fussy" fishes that need light leader. That is not me vouching for that SILLY manoeuvre, but I'm sure I've done it as a kid, being a bit tight arse.
  2. Would be big ones around, got that fat mamma last nite off the rocks, would of been similar size maybe tad bigger, 54 cm from head to hood, caught on 3.5 yama Got a couple more in their 40 cm's too
  3. Don't mean to be a smartass mate but there are shitloads of them atm, wherever I fished I found em (not fishing harbour at all personally) from my view anyway, try harder you will get em guaranteed, or maybe try to refine your rigs as the water has been crystal clear lately, due to lack of rain!
  4. Jagged stingray mate! Some stingrays in the harbour couldn't be stopped no matter what poundage of line you using.
  5. The "trevally slayer" hits again! Well done boy it seems that you are mastering your technique quite well now, every report is fishy fishy ! Keep up the good work.
  6. I tink drummers aren't really leader shy, they are caught in harsh environments and don't really have time so see what's going on, they grab the bait before it goes, full stop. the best drummer fisherman I know uses 40 lb straight and it doesn't seem to cause any problem at all., I'm yet to beat his 5.4kg fish. I personally go 40 too, 30 when it's not too rough, 20 when it's dead flat, but it usually doesn't matter, dead flat + drummers aren't good friends 10 lb is not serious, causes useless injuries on fishes imo, not saying you won't land a legal, but you know ...
  7. lol, why the hell would you add a remora on your "fish to catch list" ??? You're certainly more likely to catch a spangled that's for sure
  8. That sounds epic! Very nicely written first report man! Well done on the jews, not everyone can claim jews from the land, top stuff From my experience, keep hammering them as much as you can, (of course I recommend catch release) cause these things never last, beginners often take things for granted when they find a "new" spot that seems to hold a lot, it doesn't last, never. It's only the sum of a equation composed of many naturals phenomena all there at the "right" time. The good thing in the story is that if it happened once, it will happen again, jewies are creature of habits ! Don't waste your time reading our bullshit comments get your rods and go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
  9. Sounds like a nice day, and nothing seems to be forgotten in that report
  10. Thanks for the answer. Appreciated.
  11. Hi guys, I'm heading down Robertson (near Kangaroo Valley) for the weekend. Have some of you got an idea if it's possible to fish for trout in the surrounding areas / nearby creeks or dams? Besides, is it good for other freshwater species (other than carp)? Thanks in advance to those keen to share the experience
  12. stonker! Really impressive shit there!
  13. You'd have to be stoked with that one, absolutely outstanding effort mate! Very nice jacket on that dark lake jewie too, congrats!
  14. Mistaking a 90+ king for a salmon???? mmmmmmmm ....
  15. Def both sprangled, one younger than the other. Good as, I reckon even better than snapper to my personal taste.
  16. nice, nothing better than success when looking for new playgrounds !
  17. Can be happy for sure, you need to be brave to stay up all night in this cold! Don't forget the legal size of the mighty Dusky Flathead Platycephalu fuscus which is 36cm, don't know if a fish "misses" in your report but if not, that 35 cm fish shouldn't be on a scaling table :S
  18. That is a big emperor especially for Sydney! You gotta be stoked with this
  19. Choice session ! We all like to live sessions like this, shame for that metrey you lost but you know, 1m king land based... It often ends the same way
  20. Using custom build spiral rod (home built) 40-80 lb 7.7' Seeker Hercules, accurate boss BX 600 spooled with 24 kg mono and 130 lb leader. Not really mocking around but that's the way it goes if you don't want to lose all your good fishes right? You still lose plenty off the rocks anyway Yeah that one was caught on yakka as said in the report, usually fancying squid a lot more but I failed to catch some the night b4 Note a bloke was chucking gars all along the session next to me and hasn't been sniffed, weird knowing there are so many garies atm.... The landscape in the background is not a king spot at all for those who'd think it is, it is just where I took a set of pics of the rod freshly built
  21. Do arrow squids taste good (compare to south eastern)? Never got one b4
  22. Sure mate, Sydney South East, fishing local As per the other questions, I had a word with a user who shared his frustration by PM and asked me where exactly I caught my tailors (which I completely understand), I copy paste my answer as I genuinely think it can help some people: Haha mate I would never tell you where I caught them as I'm always looking for isolation when it comes to fishing. Now, I can sincerely tell you that tailors are EVERYWHERE as soon as you get shallows, whitewash (reasonable swell) around this time of the year you'll catch them all day especially when there is a decent overcast. In summer months you might focus around dusk and dawn only. It is not a matter of knowing or being told spots really, once you know how to locate a good looking spot it's all a matter of being able to chose the right lure and work it the right way at a particular time. This session, fishes were reacting to high speed trolling of a 40 gr raider, but tomorrow they might like a slower wobbling lure instead if the conditions are different. Tailor spots are numerous around Sydney, I'd just recommend you to go to the closest to your home, they'll be there trust me. You must really focus on learning how to locate good spot for the right species, it is a step that most people never manage in their fishing life, however one of the most important. Once there was a time where I was asking spots to elders, until I started to find that people where talking a lot of shit because that's what they've been told over generations and generations, they don't try to think, to find the answers, they rely on others. Around that time, I met a LBG kingfish guru, a guy who caught 12 kings over 15 kilos landbased in his career. I stupidly asked him if he could tell me a few spots that could be good for me to go to and that was his answer: "I tend to fish places where no one else fishes, if I find a place that doesn't have a "name" that's where I'm going to, I'm giving you a precious advice listen: any spot with more than 2 meters of water in NSW is a prime kingfish spot". I thought for a while that he was a oooo and he didn't want to share... But eventually, after making my own experiences, I realized there is nothing truer than what he said. Don't ever ask people about their spots, that is the very best way to be misguided and will prevent you to be good at what you do, hope you'll get the sense of what I'm saying.
