  1. Mate had a live bait about 100 m down as that's we're the gem fish were getting taken. I've landed then with a 200 lb leader but they do bight through it sometimes.
  2. Id use break away sinkers if i was winding up buy hand You will have no issue getting a shark. On sat we couldn't get a gemmie past the sharks. So we gave up and put a shark rig on. I then spent the next 4 and a half hours hooked up on 24 kg on full sunset drag. Lucky the boys tied me to the boat haha didn't get to identify it but the back of my boat is 2.4 m wide and the shark had a good meter on that.
  3. I've made my mates buy them on their iPhones as we motor out the heads.
  4. Ouch that's a long way to wind. We did it on the weekend with deck winches. Didn't get a fish past the sharks or bight off. My advise is 200 lb trace or wire. Those gemmies have serious teeth. Very jealous as I'll be at work.
  5. Yeah mate. I'm running a 21 foot cruise craft older model with a very deep v. Just put a second hand 200 ho Etec on it. but haven't wired up the fuel flow meter as yet. I'm over proped so that Would be killing my fuel econ. Only pulling 5000 revs loaded. Need to go down a few sizes. The boat can handle it easy but we only have a 200l tank. Until I get a smaller prop and the fuel flow hooked up I'm not confident on heatons, well making it back any way. Looks like you get pretty good econ out of that 150 Etec. Thanks for the reply.
  6. Hi roosterman how much fuel do you hold your 20 footer? What size engine are you running? Thanks
  7. Well done great result !! I'd be keen to get involved in the convoy off jb if the fish turn up!!
  8. Good luck. If you manage to avoid the jackets you will do fine. Just take some spare tackle.
  9. Mate fished there last to weekends. 2 weeks ago we got reds but last weekend we got smashed by the jackets. Never lost so much gear in my life. Really wasn't worth the trip.
  10. Mate they were considerate. They would only snip the mono trace off an leave my braid alone. We tried from 60 m deep all the way into the shore. We trolled back up along the coast line and got one rat king and a bonnie. Had ago around marly on the sand and you guessed it. Lost more rigs. I fish last sat in the rain all day and that was more fun then spending the whole day re rigging like I did today. If you go tomorrow I hope you have better luck than we did.
  11. Just got back. Was a waste of a trip today. Heaps of jackets. You need a good supply of leads. We only ended up with one. Fished there last weekend for a 8 reds.
