  1. For a while I was towing a 5.3 alli with an xr8. On supper low tides it could get interesting but mine was a manual wich might of added to the fun of getting out. I never got stuck but did have a few interesting experiences getting out late at night on dead low tide. Having said that the trailer I had needed to be completely sunk to drive the boat on so that didn't really help If u can keep your back wheels above the slime on the ramp u will be fairly safe. These days I tow a 6.6 with a 4x4 and never get stuck it was hard going from the v8 to a turbo diesel but I wouldn't own anything else now.
  2. Not sure I really see the point. Couldn't see myself spending 3.5 k for another item to submerge in salt water Could just be me but it has to be easier and faster to just drive on. Well it is in my case
  3. Unlucky Pete. Jigging in 110m sure is hard work but good fun when it pays off. A Thursday on the ocean sure beat my day in the office. I was hoping to get out this Sunday but the weather looks very average so don't like my chances
  4. Yeah it does. I'm thinking hit the 12 mile early then go wide after that.
  5. Unlucky Pete was a cracker of a day. I might be heading out on Sunday. Depending on weather. If you want to come out with me more than welcome.
  6. The radio was very quiet. I didn't see another boat all day!!
  7. After having numerous issues getting a crew for Sunday I decided to take a solo run on Monday. My first long distance solo run that is. Put the boat in at gentalmens hrs and powered straight to the canyons. Started a spread and headed SE untill I found the temp break in 500 ftms 19.9 going down to 18 over a mile I worked the break for a few hrs and had one hook up but by the time I turned the boat around and got the other rods in on my own I had dropped the fish. The westerly was making like uncomfortable at 15-20 knots over the shelf and I didn't fancy punching into that all the way home in the dark on my own so I bailed about 4 pm for a very bumpy ride back over the shelf. Now I could be crazy but when I got home and was cleaning my gear it looks to my my hook up was a marlin... I was using a brand new lure which now has a bill raked trace, scratched head and bent hook tip. Lots of birds out and the odd bit of bait splashing about. Might get out again on the weekend if I can get a leave pass. Cheers
  8. That's tough going. At least the weather looked good !
  9. The bottom of game rods have a cross cut in the but which stops them moving side to side in rod holders. The bolt your referring to will just act as a locator for the base of the rod. A lot of gimbal belts don't have the bolt
  10. How did everyone go today? My crew pulled the pin so I never got out. Thinking of doing a solo run tomorrow but I'm keen to hear how today was. Cheers
  11. Thinking of running wide of the southern canyons. If I can't find the water there will head ne Now the challenge is to get the crew to confirm there actually coming....
  12. Funny that's the same one u refused to use Hope it works out for you.
  13. I had a 200HO and for me it was nothing but a head ach. I was averaging a trip back to the mechanic every 2nd or 3rd outing. But to be fair my motor had over a 1000 hrs on it and the etec dealer in my area wasn't very user friendly so I refused to take it there which might of made the problem worse. My only advise is find a good mechanic and keep them!!
  14. Absolutely killing it between the snapper and the calamari Well done
  15. Thanks for the day out yesterday Pete. I had a ball. The lure chains are the way of the future !!! Daniel
  16. I didn't get out. Was just listening to the radio while working on the boat but did see the pic of the striped marlin caught at 12 mile. Mid 80 kgs
  17. I head on the radio a few yellow fin were caught on the tide change and a fair few albacore
  18. That sounds really strange !! I agree with ricoo1 get it looked at before you use it again as she sounds very sick .... Good luck
  19. Not me. Doing boat maintence instead. Good luck
  20. I'm thinking mon or tue. Wouldn't mind letting the seas drop down a bit first
  21. My mate runs a 100hp 4 stroke on a 5.1. It pushes it ok. I agree I wouldn't go any smaller than that.
  22. At least you caught some fish. I'd still call that a good result! Thanks for the report
  23. That's a decent effort in 12 weeks. Not to mention the growth rate! Good to get feed back from fisheries on the re capture Well done.
