  1. Gday, I found this little test. http://funstufftosee.com/frogleaptest.html It can be done. cheers Bob
  2. Gday, Its good to see someone is getting fish around this area. I fished the rising tide last night under figtree bridge and did not get one decent bit for the night. Also spoke with a bloke this moring who was fishing on the warf at the bottom of Cove Street, balmain and he had the same story, I might give Iron Cove a go on the rising tide tonight and see what happens. Cheers Balmain Bob
  3. Gday Dangles My advice would be to persist with the scrappers and try to remove the bulk of the foam and to clean up the left over I would go down the local hardware and get a can of ascertone. This will disolve the rest of the faom that is has bonded to tthe boat. IF YOUR BOAT IS FIBREGLASS BE SURE TO TRY IT ON A SMALL SECTION FIRST TO MAKE SURE THAT IT DOES NOT REACT WITH THE FIBREGLASS. hope this helps cheers Balmain bob
  4. Gday Mate, Yes they are to stop the local Revesby hoons from hanging out there . i believe that the gates open at 6am and close at 7pm ( dont hold me to that time) I have left my car and trailer ovrnight twice without incedent, but when I am starting early to fish the Bay I used the Cooks River Ramp or Tom Uglys if the tide is right. There is alsoKentucky reserve ramp but I think that the one gets shut off at night to stop the car dumping Balmain Bob
  5. Gday Raiders, be very warly of this ramp. It is a haven for stolen car dumpers. The dumped cars can sit just under the water and are not visable. I recently read a reportof a boat that hit one of the submerged vehicles and did a lot of damage to the leg and prop of his motor. The coppers also recently pulled alot of cars out of the water here. If you are planing to fish this river head up Henry Lawson Drive to the Georges River Parklands ramp at the bottom of River Road ar Revesby. this is a much better ramp setup, much safer from the local hoons. You have to pay for $7.50 for park entry but this is worth it. The run upto the Bay from there is about 25 minutes. Last year i bought a National parks pass for $65 and got my money back 3 fold. Due to the remotness of the ramp near flower power I wouold only consider using it at weekends when there is a lot of other users to lessen the chance of having the car or the trailer stolen of strripped. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER AND SAFER RAMPS ON THE GEORGES RIVER. DO NOT EVER THINK OF LEAVING YOUR CAN AND TRAILER HERE OVERNIGHT IF YOU EXPECT IT TO BE UNTOUCHED IN THE MORNING. Cheers Balmain Bob
  6. Hi Tuffy, I do realize that i still can enlarge the holes but the bloke that owns the boat now might gt a bit upset at me drilling holes in his new boat. Bob
  7. Gday Mate I would use a multi meter to check that the + and _ parts of the socket are connected and working properly. You may find that the negative wire is not earthed. If you done have a multi meter you can make one with a 12 volt globe and 2 wires Hope this helps Balmain Bob
  8. Mate. Just had another thought. Over size the drill and insert rubber grommets to protect the Al from the satainless and use wider Dia washeser to spread the load. Geee , Wish I had thought of that ;ast year!!! Balmain Bob
  9. Mate, The seals were gone and the self defrost freezer had dementia, so it was a good deal. In a few days time I will have a free bottle of Jim Beam or a bucket of Gulp. Bob
  10. Gday Mate, I ran a Cannon Mag 20 off the gunnal of my Bar Crusher without a backing plate . The Aluminium is 4mm thick if I remember right. This downrigger was a heavy unit and I had no problems with it. I aslo used stainless bolts but I did grease them to greate a barrier between the Al and the Stainless. Bar Crushers are a grreat boat. Cant wait till i by my next one in 2010. Cheers Balmain Bob
  11. Gday Raiders, Im in the process of getting ready to move house and had and old beer fridge that I needed to get rid of. Not wanting to have to pay for the disposal I did some searching on the net and found this site. www.fridgebuyback.com.au If you meet their specs for the fridge they will come out and collect the fridge FREE and aslo send you a cheque for $35. They recycle the fridge and you get $35 to spend on more fishing gear. A win - win situation. Hope that other fellow raiders can benifit from this scheme Cheers Balmain Bob
  12. Gday, If its not too late can you please add me plus one mate to the list. Sorry for the late notice, I vew just become available. We will be fishing land based Cheers Balmain Bob
  13. Gday Raiders I have just been informed by a mate of mine that I know one of the deceased in the boating collision on the Harbour this morning. The person concerned was someone who I had daily contact with at the time . Not a close friend or mate Being a local to the area. I have my own opinoin as to what occcurred last night, after having seen some of the faces of those who were involved on the tv tonight. and having had dealings with them prior to this incedent. I emplore everyone not to speculate as to the cause of this collission and to let the Police investigate the matter for the Coroner. This will, as I fear, become a very trajic event for the people of the Balmian area as the days proceed, an event usually only seen by the somewhat regular multiple deaths that occur in accidents in the country. My condolences go out to the famillies of those killed in the collision and the those who have survived. Balmain Bob
  14. That would be the Boggle/Chandler case , New Years Eve 65 or 68 I think.?? I was a tad young to remember the original case but saw the doco on the ABC recently balmainb bob
  15. Gday, I recently took my boat for a trip as far ap the Lane Cove river as I could get and it appears to be very clean. There is no sing of run off or any evidence of anything being pumped into the river now. There was heaps of actions showing on the sounder amoungst the mangroves. .The mangroves run right from Fig tree bridge up as far as Fullers Bridge .. I have tried putting crab nets out but with out success. Also note . That there is restriction on using crab nets past the Epping Road Bridge. Cheers Balmain Bob
  16. Thaanks for that Robbie. I know the ramp. I used to launch the old boat there, but the bar crusher is too big for there except for the larger tides. Even then , have trouble fitting under the bridge. Anyway, Im spending too much time and money at the Cat at the moment so any excuse to go out fishing early has to be a way to save some money, ........ yeah righ!!!!! cheers Balmain Bob
  17. we will be putting in at Drumoyne ramp, but after last weeks shit fight there at 5am I will be putting in very early or might even do an allnighter to advoid the crowds. Balmain Bob
  18. Gday, If its not too late can you please add Balmain Bob and 1 other to the list please. Also let me know if you need any more supplies for the day Cheers Balmain Bob
  19. Gday Mate I wired my downriggers on my 530c directly off one of the duel batteries. I put a switch on the positive lead so that when they are not in use I can turn the power off. I also put an inline fuse on the positve lead as well. The negative cable I conected directly to the negative terminal Hope this helps Cheers Balmain Bob
  20. Ive got a 530c and when I first got it I was having the same problem and was very disapointed with the boat. But I solved the problem. I took the boat out on Botany bay and just practised getting up on the plane adjusting the trim settings for the motor as I was going along.. It took me a while to get the hang of it. I found that the best trim angle is between 3 and 4 degrees but this depends on the number of people and the amount of gear that we have on board. The boat is very weight sensitive and if you balance out the load you will find that it makes a big difference. Ive now got just over 80 hours up on the motor and am having no problems with it. My advise is to get out on the water and practice with it. Cheers Balmain Bob
  21. Gday Raiders, Just got a call from a mate who got a call from a mate telling him that there are heaps of kingies traped in the pool at Watsons Bay and to grab my gear and get down there. But being a Friday I am forced to go to the pub otherwise I would be there. good luck to anyone who lives near there and checks it out Let us know if it is true Cheers Balmain Bob
  22. Gday Mate, We got the slimies about the centre of the bay between Bear Island and Kurnell. We were on the drift but were staying pretty stationary. They were about 25 feet down. We were using prawn pillies and bottle squid. they were taking anythng that we gave to them including their own. They provided quite a bit of action for a few hours. It was better than just sitting there feeding the little ones. Cheers Balmain Bob.
  23. Gday Everyone, Fished the Bay to day with 2 mates. Put in at Munch Street ramp at 7am and headed to the heads to see what the water was like. Nearing the heads we decided to try some trolling, whilst setting up the rods No. 2 mate drops a line over the side and is straight on. After a minutes he land a nice slimey. So it was away with the trolling gear and it was on to the slimies for the next couple of hours. After landing 24 slimies wh decided to go for the troll but after 30 minutes or so of nothing it was off to the oil wharf for a drift. Again we got nothing. Then we tried drifting in Towra channel where mate 1 started using is Gulp Alive where he got instant action and after a few misses landed a 59 cm flatty. Here mate no. 2 managed to pick up a 28cm whiting . After things had gone quite here we moved to approx 600m off the beach at Brighton beach where I got staight onto a 62cm flatty. Mate 1, who was using his Gulps got onto a flatty that spat the lure just as I was about to net it. We estimated that it was about 75cm long. Whenit spat the SP it just swan in the current just out my reach for a few seconds then dived back to the bottom. In the end it turned out to be the best days fishing that I have had since buying the boat and I now have a stack of bait in the freezer.
  24. Gday Little Hooker, I have a Sarca anchour that camae with the boat that I bought. I also recieved this anchouring guide from sarca. Hope it helps Balmain Bob
