Here is the link to the Marine Park website for NSW http://www.mpa.nsw.gov.au/ Another useful link is to the Aquatic reserves of NSW site. as there are sanctury zones included within these areas as well http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/parktype...ticReserves.htm Here is the link for Victorias marine park and sanctury zones http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/1bays.cfm Cheers BalmainBob NOTE: Do not rely solely on these links as reference to marine parks and reserves as they are subject to change.... 2. Gday Raiders, Here is a more detailed item concerning this incident. IT should be noted that the men werent actually caught fishing in the sactury zone but were caught with fishing gear in the zone. Also they did have their fishing gear forieted. Link to original story http://www.mpa.nsw.gov.au/mr-5-june-09.html News Release 5th June 2009 Court fines fishers for Marine Sanctuary breach A Raymond Terrace court has ordered two fishermen who pleaded guilty to fishing in a marine sanctuary within the Port Stephens Great Lakes Marine Park earlier this year pay a total of $2651 in fines and costs. The court heard that the men, 22-year-old Mohamad Fenej of Greenacre, and 28-year-old Walid Fenej of Yagoona, had been fishing in a marine park sanctuary adjacent to Fly Point, Nelson Bay. The area has been closed to all forms of fishing for over 25 years and is now part of the Port Stephens Great Lakes Marine Park. Port Stephens Great Lakes Marine Park Manager Max Haste said the Fly Point – Corrie Island sanctuary was an area of significant environmental importance. “It supports a unique range of fish and marine life, and within this area you cannot fish, destroy marine life, or even possess fishing gear. These restrictions are designed to protect marine life within the area, provide breeding stocks to help replenish other areas, as well as protect sensitive habitats and maintain biodiversity. “It is also an important area for marine education due to the spectacular diversity and abundance of marine life and is considered to be the best shore dive in NSW. “The fishermen were seen in a boat within the marine sanctuary only about 15 metres away from a large yellow buoy stating ‘Sanctuary Zone, No Fishing’. They pleaded guilty to possessing fishing gear in a marine park sanctuary; giving false names; having undersize fish and not having fishing licences. The men’s rods and esky were forfeited to the court and their illegal catch of snapper was also seized.” Mr Haste recommended all fishers familiarise themselves with the marine park zones before going fishing and said zoning plan guides were available at numerous outlets including bait and tackle shops, tourist information centres, some caravan parks and even service stations in the region. He said the guides can also be viewed and downloaded from the Marine Parks Authority website on www.mpa.nsw.gov.au. He said that any information regarding illegal fishing in the region could be directed to the Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park office on 02 4916 3970. 3. Hottyscotty, Firstly, Jury service should be regarded as an honour not a problem. It is you civil duty to appear and serve when called. You would have been notified a while back that you were placed on the current roll. So it cant be too much of a surprise. Secondly, check with your employer, as most of them will make up the shortfall in your pay or pay you full pay for being on jury duty plus what you get for being there. If you self employed you may be able to argue hardship not to be empanelled on a long trial. As for the other comments posted. Wait till you are in the dock. It does not take much to find yourself charged and before a jury these days. Senario, Driving home from work. Mobile rings, look down to see who is ringing. ( not to answer it and that is illegal) Run red light. T-Bone a car. KIll the other driver. Charged with neg drive causing death. Resulting in a jury trial if you plead not guilty, Would YOU want some useless scumbag on the jury??? Or a decent rational person that can listen to the evidence and make a clear, concise finding with the facts?? I know what situation I would rather be in. Think about it Balmain Bob P.S. I have not been invlolved in the situation used above, it has only been used as an example to make a point.

    Sea Legs

Gday Raiders, You wont get much change out of $60 000.00. I saw them advertized recently in a magazine Keep dreaming Cheers Balmain Bob
  5. GDday Mate, Unfortunaltey I do not own the boat anymore but when I did they did not cause me any problem,. Im only 178cm (5'10) tall maybe if I was taller they might have. Also I disconnected the cabin light and used that switch on the panel to work these lights. Cheers Bob
  6. Gday Mate, I mounted a set of lights to the roof of my 530 as you can see in the picture below. I mounted them to the bolts that hole the black poles thathold the roof in placel that way i did not have to drill any new holes. I then ran the wires in a a conduit across the roof and then run the wires down the centre of the pole and then to a switch on the dash board. The lights wereable to be easily turned and in whatever direction I wanted. They served as docking and deck lights. Hope this helps. Cheers Bob
  7. Gday Mate, There are not any places to fish from on the fish market side of the bay but on the Glebe side you can access the shore line from the bottom of Ferry Road, Glebe and walk right atround to the Cresent. There have been a few reports on fishraider of nice flatties being taken in this area You used to be able to get access to the area under the ANZAC Bridge on the fish market side but dont know if you still can. I did fish there a few years ago for some nice bream Cheers Bob

    Shark

Gday Ben, Good to see that you are still alive. If you are after sharks in that part of the river head a little further upstream to where the river does a 90 degree turn to the west just before Lambeth Park and fish that area. Especially late in the afternoon. When I was growing up there were many reports of dogs being taken whilst swimming in that area. As a kid in the late 70s my mates and I used to swim across the river at the Picnic Point boat shed to go and explore the bush on the other side of the river. The thought of sharks did not enter our minds. Cheers Bob
  9. Gday Mate, Ive got a VZ wagon and fitted the 2100 tow bar to it my self. I towed my 530 Bar Crusher up to Port Maquaire twice and to and from the local 'sydney ramp plenty of times and had no problems at all. The Bar Crusher weight in at around 125okg but withall the camping gear and fishing gear onboard it would easily have hit the 1600 kg mark. I was going to go for the air shocks but after towing the boat a few times decided that I did not need them. Make sure that your trailer brakes are working correctly and you should have no problems cheers Bob
  10. Gday Jewgaffer, All the best for a successful operation and a very speedy recovery. Your posts will be missed while you are indisposed Cheers Balmain Bob
  11. Gday Luke. Fellow Raider Rabbit Dave and i fished Long Reef Beach last Friday night on the top of the tide. About ! hour after the turn of the tide the fish came on the bite. In about 1.5 hours we landed 6 dinner plate sized rays,2 flatties, one going 60cm and the other a thow back. Also managed to land a 40 cm taylor. We were getting plenty of bites and prawns and pillies. It was also the first time that I had been beach fishing on 35 years (when I was a boy). good luck with you beach fishing Cheers Bob
  12. Gday Dan Here is my never fail spot for a fish on the Hawksberry. I find that it fishes well on a run out tide. Start drifting into the centre of the passage from just past the timber warf. It is only a short drift of about 50 meters or so as there is a rock bar level with the second or third house. I usually always sometimes pick up a few nice flathead here on the run out. I have tried fishing on the run in without any luck here I have also had success doing the drift fom Bar Point up river towards Spencer. Hope this helps Cheers Bob
  13. GDay Mate, I think that you will find that he is unlicenced here in NSW. Have a look at this link http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/docs/sbh/bh...rt1.pdf#page=11 It says that if a person has been in NSW for continuosly for 3 months they require a NSW licence. Cheer bob
  14. Gday Mate, thankfully you servived the ordeal Why dont you buy a pocket airhorn. They are only about $20. I always keep one close at hand when out on the water just incase. I do believe that you are required to carry a signalling device, suck as an air horn for situation just like that one. Better to spend $20 on a horn and never use it, than not have one and have to go to you own funeral due to some idoit not keeping a proper lookout when on the water. I have used mine a couple of times when I have been unsure that the approaching boat has seen me. I also used it to stop a boatie from running into Rod island in Iron Cove. He had the motor engaged but was too busy tending to his rods out the back of the boat to notice the islad approaching. Shouting at him did nothing but alsmost Sh-t himself when he heard the airhorn. It got his attention. Cheers Bob
  15. Gday Raiders, Here are a few more for the list. I hope. Homer, (not of the simpsons clan) Ramses Eisenhower Easter Island heads Kofi Annan chairman Moa Tojo Confucios It gets the old brain going. Bob
  16. Gday Mate, Why dont you talk to the new site sponser, Seriously Stainless, I bet that he would be able to make you a a couple of brackets like that on if you give him a drawing of what you want. Cheers Balmain Bob
  17. Gday Mate, I used to have a lowarance combo unit with a simialr transducer. When I first mounted it I was having similar problems. I fixed it by adjusting the angle of the transducer so that the back of it was just slightly higher than the front so that when you are at speed, on the plane, the transducer is sitting more level to the bottom and not in a forward angle . Its just a matter of trial and error until you get it right. Hope this helps Cheers Balmain Bob
  18. Gday Mate, Also dont forget to do a REVS check on the boat and trailer just to be sure that you are buying a boat oand trailer free of debt and not stolen. cheers Bob
  19. Gday Mate. Here is the link to te Waterways site that sets out what you have to do to change the rego on the boat and what documents you need. http://www.waterways.nsw.gov.au/sbh/rego.html You have 21 days from date of purchase to change it over. You can use the boat prior to changing it over Cheers Balmain Bob
  20. Gday Yabbiehunter Pm Sent Bob
  21. Gday, That a great video, I ve seen the there is a commercial on tv at the moment that uses the same style. The bit where the fisherman is washed off the rocks just shows how easy it is to be washed in cheers Balmain Bob
  22. Gday Mate I think that you will find that the nets reffered to in the regulations are dealing with commercial netting as the regs were gazzetted prior to commercial fishing being baned in the harbour If crab traps or witchs hats were baned it would say 'Hoop or lift nets or crab traps' as it does when you read the regs for Port Hacking. Cheers Balmain Bob
  23. You blokes are lucky I dont qualify for the payment in anyway I didnt earn enough last year
  24. Gday Mate, It loooks like a great set up they you have designed there. The only issue that I would have done differently is your choice of bucket. The plastic that those bins are made out of will not last very long when exposed to the elements. It will deteriorate and break very quickly as they are not UV stabilized. I would have gone for a industrial type bucket, the ones that are about 4 to 5 mm thick, like the ones used to contatin acids etc. With your current setup I would look into painting the bucket with a waterbased, water proof mebrane . That way it will be protected from the sunlight and from the salt water . I would also place a strap around the bucket at the top and about 1/3 and 2/3 of the way down the sides going around the mounting bracket to limit the mount of movement of the sides to reduce stress on the plastic. Just one last point. The addition of a washer on each of the mounting screws would help to distribute the mounting load and stop the screw heads from pulling through. Cheers Balmain Bob
