  1. Gday Mate Before you decide remember that the Rose Hill Boat show is comming up on the 14th and 15th of March, It may be worth while looking to see what there is to offer out there and you can compare the boats that you are looking at against each other in one place. I know that I did this prior to buying my last boat and found it a great help Cheers Balmain Bob
  2. Gday Raiders, thanks for the replies. The rest of the fisheries site regarding restrictions and bans is quite exact in their wording but this one seemed a little ambiguious to me. As they say , If you ever need a fishing questions answered, just ask the Fishraiders. Cheers Balmain Bob
  3. Gday Raiders, I was reading the fisheries web site this morning and came across this http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/closur...dcr5/botany-bay Can anyone shed any light on why you are only allowed to use a hand line when fishing this river and its creeks? I personally would not eat anything caught out of here. but only be able fish with a handline has got me stumped. Or does a hand held line include a rod? Cheers Balmain Bob
  4. Gday Mate, Firstly do you want to hire a boat around Picnic Point or do you have one? Anywhere on the Georges river either upstream or down stream will produce fish. If you head downstream from picnic point into the moons you will find a few large sand/mub banks to fish on for flatties and bream>Just anchor up out of the main channel. If you head upstream you can drift along this the current or anchor up anywhere that you think looks suitable. If you go further up the river you will come across the rail bridge at East Hills and a little further up the M5 road bridge. I have caught good size bream at both of these locationsaround the pylons This river can be very busy at the week end making it almost impossible to fish sometimes with the general boat traffic and the PWC tearing up and back . There are that many spots in this area that have been covered by fellow raiders just do a search and read some of the other locations Cheers Bob

  6. Gday Raiders, Found this on the www this morning. http://www.watoday.com.au/world/divers-dis...90227-8kbz.html Now with video http://media.smh.com.au/?category=Breaking...s&rid=46574 I just hope that the divers hadnt smoked too many funny cigs berfore diving. Cheers Balmain Bob
  7. Gday Mate. I would stick it on Ebay with a few photos showing the damage and a brief description with a starting price of $500 and no reserve. You may find that someone is looking for a wreck for the parts. There is very little value in 10 year old cars now let alone damaged ones. I have sold a couple of damaged cars that way on Ebay before. Cheers Balmain Bob
  8. Gday Raiders, Like most of us, I was pretty sick of this weather so decided to wlak up to Yurulbin point for a fish. Got there about 9am and it was only raining slightly. Set up the rods and started to fish. Straight away I was on. Only a small snapper, but it was fun to catch afish. For the next 3 hours or so just about every cast resulted in a fish. All small snapper. About an hour in to the session the reel took off and after a good fight i landed the 38cm flattie. It was caught on squid. Apart from small snapper this was the only thing caught today. There was only 2 other young blokes fishing here and did not seem to be having much luck. Even though not a lot of keeper fish were caught it was still good to get out of the house and have a bit of fun with the small stuff. There was also some kind of water bird that was hanging aroung the jetty and it was having as good feed on the small snapper that I was throwing back Cheers Balmain Bob. P.S Yurulbin Point is at the end of Lousia Rd, Birchgrove. Formally known as Long Nose Point

  10. Gday Raiders, As it was not good fishing weather I decided to go to the Aquarium to look at the fish and to see the dugongs. Its worth the enterance fee if you have nothing else to do. They are suposed to have kingies in the main tank but i could not see any Cheers Balmain Bob
  11. Gday Mate, Not having an old wife to ask, I dont know how true it is. But I have had some of my best fishing trips out in the pouring rain. When it is p ssing down I will usually fish closer to the heads as the rain will wash a lot of crap into the rivers and harbour. I will also use smelly baits if the water is clouded. cheers Balamin bob

    Shark Meat

Gday Ben, As long as you dont intend to feed them on shark all the time an occasional feed of shark every few weeks should not do any harm. Its just like eating fish west of the bridge, eat it every day and you may have problems latter on, have it every now and then you are ok. Cheers Balmainbob
  13. Gday Bob, Here is another idea for you to think about. Have a looka the products at this web site http://www.multipanel.com.au/index.html They have a marine fridge panel that would do the trick in insulating the kill tank and it is high density and so you would only loose a limited amout of wall and floor thickness. The panels are glued into place with their special glue. You would then need to line to outside of the panel. Instread if using fibreglass I would think about using one of the water based rubber compounds that are used in the building industry to tank pond or pools with. Easyier to use than fibreglass. I have recently used other products from this company on a building project that I did last year. I got the link to this comapny off this site about 12 months ago. If you would like any further details give a call 0423320825 or PM me Cheers Balmain Bob

    Boat Advice

Gday mate, Make sure that you do a REVs check to make sure that no money is owed on it first. YES tell the owner that you want to go on the water with it to see how it runs, take the engine through its paces from slow idling to flat out to make sure that it is running ok Also check the boat for leaks etc. Does it come with all the required safety gear for the number of people certified to be caried by the boat? Also make sure that it has a boat code attached to it. If not make the seller get it affixed prior to sale. AS it appears to have been or is registered this should not be a problem. these are a few of the things that i look at when I have looked at buying a boat Cheers Balmain bob
  15. Clem, I dont believe that it is the role of the ordinary fisho to police fish licencing. Yes i do agree with reporting the taking of undersize fish but leave the enforcemnt of the licence to the appropriate people as it is really just the collecting of another tax. Balmain Bob
  16. I dont know how clean the water is in that creek as it is the main drainage system for the industrial area around Canterbury road at Bankstown. The mangroves look heathy enoungh though. I also recon that there would be quite a few muddies hanging out in there. Cheers Balmain Bob
  17. Well done on the muddie. I remember catching them that size up at Picnic point in the late 70's when I was about your age. Keep up the good work Cheers Balmain Bob.
  18. Gday Raiders, Last week I took an OAP mate of mine to the zoo. It was the first time he had been there in over 60 years. Here are a few of the photos. Cheers Balmain Bob PS. OAP =old age pensioner
  19. Gday Bob, Have a look at the barcrusher website. In the brochure that can be downloaded there has a cross section through the boat that shows the construction detail under the floor. It dosnt appear posible to hull mount the transducer without cutting into the floor of the boat. I also dont know what stuctural problems doing this may cause or problems with the warranty for the boat. I looked into doing this when I first bought my 530c but decided against it and just mounted it on the transon mounting plate . hope this helps. Cheers Balmain Bob
  20. Great photos of the fireworks After starting my NYE party at 8am thats how I remember seeing them Cheers Bob
  21. Gday Raiders, Im heading up to The Enterance for a fish and to go prawning of the first time this afternoon with fellow Raider, Rabbit Dave. We have never fished or prawned the area before. Can anyone point us in the right dirtection as to where the best area to go for both are? Hope everyone had a great Xmas. I overordered on the lobsters for my Xmas bash, so now I am stuck having to eat lobster for 3 meals today Cheers Balmain Bob
  22. Gday Boofhead, Here are a couple of photos of the warf that Im talking about in the earlier post. As for a boat ramp the closest one to Balmain is in Drummoyne. Hope this helps cheers Balmain Bob
  23. Gday Mate, I would suggest the warf next to Dawn fraser Pool. It is easily accessed freom Fitzroy Street. It is not used by the ferries. Hope this helps Cheers Balmain Bob
  24. Gday Everyone, I do believe that we need to protect the fish stocks in the ocean and by creating marine parks we can attempt to do this, but I also believe that the recreational fisher does little to interfear with the fish numbers. However, I would not be opposed to reducing the bag limit by half for fish caught within these areas. That way we may be able to plecate the "the greeny element" What do you think? Cheers Balmain Bob
  25. Gday Mate, My top fishing spot is North Haven about 30 km south of Port Macquarie. It on the Camdem Haven river. It has easy access to fishing off the breakwall or from the beach and you can pump nippers by the bucket load from googleys lagoon. You turn off the highway at Kew and its about a 10 minute drive to North Haven / Laurieton. and from here you can take the coast road up to Port. Even if you dont stop to fish it makes a nice deviation off the Highway. If you want any furhter info just PM me Cheers Bob
