  1. I find some funnel webs every year on the Central Coast. Our local National Geographic shop takes FW's, had six in there when I dropped one off last year. Heres a link to Reptile Park for more info and spider drop off details http://www.reptilepark.com.au/venom_dropOff.asp The spiders I keep an eye out for are white tails cause of a spreading skin ulceration known as necrotic arachnidsm from some bites, which, as yet, has no easy cure. I dont kill them just relocate outside to keep other spiders down. Largest whitetail I ever found was 16 yrs ago at Katoomba, size of a large funnel web and looked like he was on steriods. He crawled out of my sons nappy, when I was changing him . I will also kill redbacks on sight, as Dad was bitten by one and reckoned the pain is unbelievable. I inherited his habit to kill them on sight. Keep an eye out
  2. Ritchie, Take the turnoff on the left after the bridge, follow it through to the roundabout and go to the right, road will take you under F3 to Pacific Highway (possibly signposted to Brooklyn). Turn right and go back over hawks R on old bridge and take 1st left turn once over the bridge. 2nd left will take you to Brooklyn so if you get on this road you went to far. I have never fished there before so cant say what its like. Tight lines.

    Ice

As Evets said use some bottles already frozen and put them in with some fresh saltwater (dont use stuff near ramp etc, I get it usually once I am in position and water looks clean). They say to keep fresh water/ice from direct contact with fish as the freshwater affects the fish flesh. I use esky/bottles for fish and cooler bag/another bottle for drinks/lunch. Label the fish box ones so you dont get them mixed up as they can get a bit slimey, I use a permananent marker and put them in different parts of the freezer. Wash outside to remove slime/blood etc before refreezing. Cheers

    Man Rules

Lov it, how true. Though the one about 1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is. The one exception to this rule is fishing lures - we know what colours pumkinseed, nuclear chicken and other strange names are.
  5. Saw mention of fish names and this site the other day in the paper. See http://www.fishnames.com.au/ Might have to get the mods involved in any future name disputes to ensure "correct names" are used though : You can get the Australian name standard for free at http://www.seafood.net.au/intro/AFNS_AS_SSA_5300.pdf. Has a list a mile long of common and scientific names. Kingies get mentioned twice for some reason, maybe cause theyre such a great fish ; yakka's get in twice too, maybe cause they make such great bait for kingies Cheers
  6. [Good to hears its sorted Chopper. My first and only boat purchase to date was an absolute nightmare, and this was from a firm who won best dealer from name brand boat manufacturer. I have never returned to them at Toronto as these guys were just such idiots. How they won awards I never know. The boats been good, I use Huey now. Good setup/dealer provides confidence in boat/product. Good fishing from now on, cheers Copa
  7. Copa is the North end of beach, Macmasters Beach is the south end. I have fished Copa, but usually fish Bris Waters in the boat (dont seem to catch any more fish though lol). I've never fished Macs and have not seen any fisho's there. Whenever I think about going off the rocks the weather/sea is crap. Cheers
  8. Have a look at http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.ph...st&p=242654 for a picture etc. Find the water tower between Avoca and Copa, cant miss it. Could walk around from Avoca but its a long walk and there is some tricky bits. Keep away from rocks etc if seas are up. Winnie is a sewerage outfall site and can be pretty messy/smelly. You are not allowed to keep fish caught here (signposted). Blackfish fishermen fish nth of winnie and apparetly kingfish can be caught from south. I prefer Terrigal, Avoca, Copa etc, easier access, less of a hike and much nicer than the outfall. Cheers
  9. Thanks Poacher. Would you launch from terrigal by yourself, if swell etc is suitable ? I normally put in around Bris water but now the young bloke has got some size and confidence driving the boat we should be able to manage Terrigal together. Will have to get out from Terrigal more this year, now I just have to convince a teenage boy to wake up early on the weekend . Hope to see you out there sometime soon.
  10. Sorry to hear no legal kingies were caught Poacher, there has to be some larger ones about. Did you get any kingies on plastics after the yakkas ran out ? Might have to give the rocks a go if I dont get the boat out this weekend. Havent got the jaw yet (I tend to keep my head clear ), but the knuckles have copped some hits Cheers copafisher
  11. Taps, have a look at Empire Bay, ramp is pretty deep but only 1 ramp, limited parking and the ferry comes in to the wharf there every so often. Its closer than WoyWoy though WW is probably the best bet for ramps, parking, beach, families etc. Give St Hu's ramp a miss, I only put my 4.8 in there once. If you want quckest access to sea try the sand ramp at Half Tide rocks if you have suitable vehicle and experience. Cheers, Steve
  12. Welcome to the central coast, high speed metal. you will find a few fishraiders in the area, try searching some of the posts for info, though we have all been quiet for a while. I am not normally LB but try around the rail bridges at woy woy and gosford, apparetnyly they produce jews, I have only got one soapie at the rip from the boat but have not seriously targeted them yet. Will have to try and get out as they are supposed to be about. Good to see BW fishing is picking up. Cheers copafisher
  13. Awesome fish there dogtooth, bet Fish was pleased getting another shot after the first busted off, pity though. Nice seafood platter there. Cheers
  14. Great report Nanook, great to see people out getting fish, even if its all "work". I think Peter can still give some grief on your catch, the measuring scale on your brag mat seems a bit faint Cheers Copafisher
  15. .......The burley machine would greatly apprecate tips on helping to overcome his nasty condition Kwells dont seem to work........ Arked, ET gave his sea sickness tablets a plug on the last show, get Doug to try Bova Compound Chemists 1300 SEASICK or 1300 732 7425. I am going to give them a try myself, its just not pleasant when that feeling comes on, ruins a good day out. Cheers
  16. Gday Arked, You can let Doug know he's not on his own, the BBay swell gets to me too. Would have been pretty big if Little Box was working. I hate it when I leave Copa and its dead flat and get to Box to find a 2m swell, BBay seems to funnel the swell up higher. I tried the pressure wrist bands at Airlie going to the Reef, didnt work to good. Have tried ginger tabs but need to work out the right doses etc. Get Doug to see if he can source ET's tablets. 17. I had one that didnt make it from the bucket to the freezer last night, spotted him later in the bath and put him back in the bucket to see if he would survive OK. He was still fine this morning, so I left him to go to work. The rang me at work later to tell me to let "Henry" go, as he had turned his big eyes on her when she looked in the bucket and was begging to be let go . He must have been lucky, cause I took him back tonight to tell all his friends what a good bloke I was and managed to convince some more to come home with me I reckon if the water is too deep it may be a problem, I keep mine in about 2cm of water and they sit on the bottom with their heads up. I would remove the dead or nearly dead ones and possibly not aerate it. Might have to try it on the weekend if I can catch some to use live on Sunday morning. Cheers
  18. Good catch there Luderick Luke. Have been meaning to get out myself and see if they were running, not that we get much locally. Went down tonight to have a look, the wind was messing it up a bit but still got a few. Now I just have to figure if its a prawn sandwich or fresh bait Cheers Copafisher
  19. We found it was very quiet today to. With 4 in the boat today, tried around Box head 1st, sounder was showing small stuff on the bottom but no bites. Then had a drift to Lion Island. Didn’t matter what we sent down nothing was willing to bite. The big NE swell at Lion wasn’t too nice so we retired to drift between Half tide and Lobster. The only fish caught was a small flounder on a prawn which went back to get bigger. It was a beaut day, though it would have been nicer with one or two to take home. Sorry, no pics, with 2 visitors on the boat I was so busy I forgot to get the camera out. Cheers Copafisher
  20. It was very quiet today Ray, we only fish caught a small flounder. Yakkas wernt even taking bait. It was a beaut day though. You might be able to see me in your photo behind Lion Island Cheers
  21. I got more tackle/plastics/leader/etc this week too, I think I could not resist on at least 3 occasions. After sorting my box, lure trays and backpack out, I now realise I need another tackle box . I'll have to go back and see what they've got lol
  22. Bad luck Ray, you and Hutcho have been getting a reasonably good run in the fish finding stakes so it had to happen sometime. My last few trips have been zilch. May be why the price of flatties has dropped, they were $22/kg at Erina today. Hopefully tomorrow will be better if you get out again, might see you out there, I will be out showing some mates around Lion Is/Patonga. I picked up some 'secret' weapons today to entice those flatties - frogs Lucky that bet wasnt on this trip, might have looked like a Manly win . Cheers, Steve
  23. Dat, the run from Woy Woy is pretty straight forward, although there is additional areas now around Pretty Beach, Half tide rocks and Lobster beach where the channel has narrowed due to the lack of dredging. You need extra caution in these areas but IMO no more so than anywhere else in Brisbane Waters which does tend to be shallow and congested with leases, boats etc. There is far more obstructions if you are coming from Kincumber Ck or other BW's backwaters. Remember the skipper is always held responsible to ensure safe boating & avoid a collision etc, even if it because of some other idiot. PM me if you want to go for a look see, I put in around Davistown. I have an older 2004 Stacer bowrider 4.8 with 75hp. Had a look at the new Stacers at Hueys when I last got mine serviced, they appear much better fitted out now, would be a good choice, but have a good look around and make sure you are getting what you want. Josh - interesting the Waterways map shows bar crossing between Little box Head and ocean Beach with warning requiring the compulsory wearing of life jackets. First time I have seen this warning on a map for this area, it doesnt appear on other maps/charts i have. I will clarify with Maritime as this looks new, its not shown on my 2004 maps. You do need to be careful in this area as there can be waves etc partic. with southerly swell, but they dont affect the marked entrance channel (which is marked as a bar crossing now). Cheers Copafisher
  24. Thanks again Braidbuster. Sorry to hear about your thumb, ive got some scars , its usually a blunt knife but they still seem to cut you deep though . The doctor just used some steri-strips and supaglue last time instead of stitches and I 'renewed' my tetanus shot. Now I just have to wait for the sea to settle a bit and go down and see if I can bruise some knuckles on the Alvey.
  25. Congratulations on landing one Braidbuster, apparently most people dont. What sort of rod, reel, rig and hook were you using (30lb braid or mono ?). I have seen some around and am looking at targeting them. I have now got some much stronger hooks after reading other posts and Moses's sage advice. I intend to use a 8 or 10ft GP rod and an Alvey with 30lb, blackfish float & peeled prawns & burley but think they may baulk at the heavy line. Thanks Copafisher
