  1. Great report Ray, you should have tried the "best of three ?" line or discounted Hutcho's catch based on the lure cost etc, with SX40's going for $15-20 they are just a bit more than plastics. Good on ya Hutcho, I think you might have set Ray up there; not letting on you were going to use such a well known fishcatcher. People will be out looking at SX40's now, omly problems as always is which colour to buy ? Cheers
  2. Excellent kingie Squidking, I have got to get the boat down to Sydney sometime. I come over the bridge every day, looking for sign and always wish i was on the Harbour. What rods & gear are you using, rods in the photo look fairly long, I am still using shorter 6' boat rods but am interested in a longer one (7') for the boat to give more control etc. Cheers and thanks again Copafisher
  3. No Central Coast beaches, only Sydney, Illawarra & Newcastle. Hope its not because of Whinney Bay. I noticed the map legend for Pittwater has an icon for sewage treatment works, if you had Terrigal, Avoca, Copa & Macs on a map Whinney is right between them. It was pretty foul when I was down there last time
  4. My 2004 Stacer bowrider has a removable long 2 part one that was supplied with the boat. You should be able to get one that replaces the one you have pictured if its the bayonet mount type. You may need to buy new light and mount. Try a Stacer dealer or give Huey a call.
  5. Some nice fish Ray. You just need to sign Jordy up on Fishraider and he might start giving you a run in the fishing stakes. Cheers Copafisher
  6. Good photo Ray. I have seen "de plane" at the back of a house near Eulalia wharf but its always been covered up so never got a good look. Being a two seater it would make a great platform to recon the waterways etc for those hidden spots/holes & fish while having a look about. Would have been a great sight. Wonder if he takes passengers ? Cheers Steve
  7. So Ray have you picked up some of Roberta's blackfish secrets and will we be seeing reports on the central coast blackfish ? "...... it was so much easier than putting the yak back on top of the trailer again!!! It doesn't snore or pinch my blanket ...... that's my 'space' on the right hand side!" Roberta, I take it that you weren't making Keith sleep outside on the trailer Cheers, Steve
  8. Welcome to Fishraiders Peter, a good story for your first post too. May have been a bit of luck but it sounds like a good idea to me, will have to give it a try next time Im out. Have often hung a jig out while fishing but not one with a bait on/near it. Hope to hear more in the future. Cheers Steve
  9. A nice session and catch for Ray & Hutcho. How was the creek/broadwater entrance, last time I went through at low tide it was silted up and was down to less than 2.5 feet near the marker. What colour/size plastic did you use this time Ray ? (and whats a roll, a slow wind ?) Cheers
  10. Welcome to Fishraiders cc, noticed its your first post and a good one at that, even if the missus scored better this time around (good encoragement to keep going fishing). Was that the Kin broadwater ? I was out last weekend around Sara and didnt get any so you did well, even sat out through that rain. Hope to see more good posts, especially with the fishing/weather ? improving. Cheers
  11. Est p, 'Unpainted aluminium hulls are susceptible to intermatallic corrosion if lead sinkers or brass fittings are left in contact with the hull in the presence of salt water, resulting in perforation of the hull.' (http://www.vmrgladstone.org.au/metals.html). I am still not sure of causes of the bubbling I am getting under paint but will look at fittings/rivets etc and proably have to remove paint and protect/refit fittings where they seem to be the cause. Pretty complex subject and lots of theories/causes etc. FYI, this was simple info on corrosion at http://www.duroboat.com/experience/Aluminu...dCorrossion.htm
  12. Thanks Warnie, I check the engine ones regularly but had not thought to fit to the hull or the trailer (to protect its gal coating). Will get some asap, local retailer has them from 400g-2.5kg, what size did you use. As Stucatz indicated what is the best way to fit, I obviously dont want to drill holes in the hull but want best contact between anode & hull. Could silastic/glue around for the hull but theres probably better ways, maybe even a glue that enables minute electric current ? Thanks again Steve
  13. My 2004 stacer bowrider has similar bubbling. Most are around locations where the paint protection has been broken by drilling etc or possibly isnt so good. Huey indicated that salt gets under and sets up corrosion. I dont wash/wax too frequently, which might help slow it down. When i bought mine I was told to regularly check under florr for stuff that might corrode hull from inside (hooks, sinkers etyc). Apparently lead sinkers are particulary bad for causing holes. Have a chat to Huey or local dealer.
  14. The old dogs not up to walking to and along the beach anymore, so I decided to combine his beach visits with some in the legal dog area. Took the young blokes spinning rod and some plastics to try, while the dog can have some fun or just enjoy the sunshine. I had to watch him with the plastics. When he spotted it coming through the wash, he thought it might be one of his old games and was all set to take a bite (a number of times). Might have been a different entry for 'catch of the month' . Unfortunately, he was the only thing that I came close to catching, but I have found a new way to fit in more fishing . Cheers Steve
  15. I have one of the lightforce 170 spotlights and battery packs which I have used for last 10 yrs, mainly camping, shooting and prawning etc. Rugged, reliable & lightweight. With the battery pack with dimmer switch its portable and light output can be varied form 0-100w. Different clip on protective lenses are also avail eg clear/amber/red. I use the battery pack for prawning too, beats car battery and doesnt spill. I also have a 12volt fluro which I can run off the battery pack. Initially costs a bit but is good gear. They have various kits and marine spots now. Look at http://www.lightforce.net.au/index1.html Problem with the big portable spotlights is charge is quickly depleted, so look for one with spotlight and torch, grrrrrrrr had some a while back. I dont rely on one light, carry a backup so when the big one runs out, batterys gone etc you still have light. With spot you can run off boat and pull out battery when required. I was thinking of buying one of the jump starter battery packs which had torch, output for spotlight etc a while back. Handy for spare boat starter, spotlight etc If you are after better stuff, one of the current fishing mags has an article on modern hitech lights which draw much less power so dont drain batterys. Cheers
  16. Musnt be too picky, the ones i saw the other day were at the sewage outfall at Whinney. The "berley" trail was pretty foul for supposed treated stuff. Very good reason for the signs indicating not to eat the fish.
  17. Gday tan, Terrigals close but is less protected than Pretty Beach as it has direct sea access. You could go from any of the brisbane water ramps but these are closest. Copa
  18. What is a close aussie hook if you were going to use one ? What hook are you importing moses ? do they eat anything else or only weed baits ? Have checked most surgeon posts and could not find mention of baits used. Thanks
  19. I think thats what was down at Whinney bay today, there ws a big school of fish at the outfall but they weren't interested in plastics. What type & size hook, rigs & bait do you use for them. Cheers
  20. Bet the young bloke was impressed at dads fishing skillls, though he seems to have them too. Pity about the big one but it just adds to the story now of 'the one that got away', the young bloke will be talking about it for a while I bet. Cheers
  21. Thanks Benny, will add this one to my list and have a good look. Steve
  22. Top catch Doug43, what a beauty for your first jewie. Many more to come. Bet the missus was stoked too. Cheers
  23. Local Maritime in Brisbane Waters was doing checks today, looking had pfd's and other safety gear as well as licence. In the time I was watching him he had checked quite a few boats. Keep it safe out there. Just after he left, I saw a speedboat blaze through a narrow 8knot channel, so hopefully they will catch some of the idiots who risk our lives as well as their own. Cheers
  24. Quite an adventure and a great read. I was hoping for a photo of the fisho's poised with gaff and baseball bat
  25. Had intended trying Broken Bay & Patonga today with a mate and his boys but the plans changed a few times before and after launching. What with arranging teenagers, my mate finding his boat blocked in and the wet weather things didnt quite go to plan. After a latish start, my young bloke & I sat propped in Lintern Channel with some pies & plastics looking for a flattie or two while waiting for my mate to turn up. After another phonecall & another change of plans when my mate found his boat blocked in and us with no bites we moved to Paddys and drifted through to Brisbane Waters. Local Maritime boat was doing a safety campaign and checked we had all our safety gear & licence, then a young bloke nearby in a tinnie came over to offer some nippers, as he was leaving, giving us a flash of a very nice flattie & talior he had gotten. The mate rang again (he still hadnt left yet ) and what with the wind picking up and heavy rain threatening I told him not to worry. We moved back to Lintern to get out of the wind and got the clears up as the rain came down. With the fresh nippers I got a few takes from some bream with only 1 small one caught & released. Back at the ramp one of the estuary tour guys coming in indicated his tour had bagged out on a huge school of tailor in Broken Bay. It apparently had about 15 boats on it at one stage, but kept going under as some idiots kept crossing over the school. Next time I will stick to the originakl plan, might have had some tailor to bring home. Hope some other raiders got into the action on BB. Cheers Copafisher
