  1. Great report Rubes, I almost felt like I was out there myself. You, me and Hutcho1 might have to form the Copa fishing club , there seems to be a few other other Fishraider members around there (jnuior, Ray R, etc). I live on the beach end of Oceano St at Copa also. If you see me about say hello, I drive a grey forerunner with a black bullbar. Our boat is a Stacer 4.85 bowrider with a 75 2 stroke. The canopy is teal or light blue. Happy to take you out if on mine if you want to try a Stacer if you are looking to upgrade, its not the current model (about 3yrs old) but I think the hulls the same, transoms different. Get a 4stroke, I wish I had every time I smell the exhaust. I will be off on school hols soon so hope to see you out fishing. The weather is looking good and I am hoping for some no swell days to get out off Broken Bay to try for snapper. Regards
  2. Junior, There is supposed to be snapper out at 60m, with LJackets about again though. 60m is out from West Reef though I think. You should be OK, though swells might dictate whether you go/stay out. I was out there one day, worse thing was me getting seasick (no one else of cause) and no fish. I have a 4.85 Stacer bowrider and 75hp, she handled it easy. Worst was riding the swell coming back into Patonga. Had to shelter behind Lion to find a nice spot. If its bad just come back in Brissie Waters. I usually prefer to launch from Eulali or South Kincumber, though Davistown and Empire Bay arent bad, usually busy though. Ive been dying to get out but the has had me doing a new water tank & landscaping (though now I can wash the boat down with rainwater ). Good luck , hoping to get out too myself.
  3. Rubes, I am still trying to work out the Rip. It has 2 nice deep holes (100ft) with some big fish down there (if you believe the sounder). I cracked a my first legal jew there a few months ago. Try live/fresh squid, around the drop offs with the big fish. Look out for the eels though , if you get one cut it off ASAP. Say hello if you see me, I have a 4.8 bowrider (no Fishraider stickers yet though). Steve
  4. Hi Bobfish, If the swell is up try Brisbane Water down to Half Tide Rocks. There are heaps of spots around the channels, edges and sandflats. If you go to Saratoga and work your way around to Davistown you will find plently of locations to try that provide flats, deeper channels etc. Alternatively around Booker Bay through Ettalong and to Half Tide Rocks has similar easy access. Have a look at a decent map/directory to find the locations, ramps, wharves, etc. There are so many places its not funny, just hope you get some fish. Good luck Copafisher
  5. Just read your berley post, the locals just tread the bread onto the rocks and use the wave action to disperse it from the rocks. Seems to work well, though I am normally livebaiting for kings, so I do it for yakkas. The drummer need a good strong hook and expect plenty of bust offs. Let me know how you go. Cheers Steve
  6. Know what you mean about the rain Roberta. Yesterday I was looking at Central Coast radar which appears similar to the one you posted. I have a new water tank, I finally got installed, but hav'nt managed to plumb the downpipe yet. Spewing as we had about 140mm + rain in the last 24hrs, which would have filled it, though if I had the downpipe off it would have flooded the backyard. To make it worse, todays weather meant the day off did'nt get the downpipe done or get to go for a fish. Maybe next weekend, once the downpipes in. Have you tried bread baits for the blackfish, seems to be popular here lately, with good catches of blackfish and drummer. Cheers Steve
  7. Brisbane waters - 16 July 2007 Hi Fishraiders, finally 1st fish(less) post up. 2 weeks of school holidays and finally managed to get the boat out. Hit the water at Eulalie at about 10am with me (Copafisher/Steve), my young bloke Peter, my mate Muz and his 2 boys, Ben & Mitch. Stupidly managed to hit the shallows within the first 100m, because I was taking more interest in watching my mate prep bait. Glanced ahead, open water, motored up and totally missed the new marker Maritime put in, even though its now bigger ! Managed to break a hydroplane wing off with a rock off the prop, but no other serious damage. Went over to the western side of the Rip to wet some prawns. Some nice big fish on the sounder, in about 50 ft. Was looking good, caught a nice soapie here last time on some fresh squid. Beautiful day, but few bites. I finally pulled in a small female blue swimmer, which quickly went back, before the boys could start playing with it. Mitch then pulled a nice blue that went 8.5cm, which he only got as he somehow managed a half hitch around his biggest claw. The boys spotted a sea turtle, I got a glimpse but he was gone by the time the camera was out. Moved to the eastern side, but even less bites. Moved to Davistown, not a nibble, retired at 3pm as the boys were starting to get restless. Have a good shot of the swimmer but have not yet worked photos out yet (have to reread the guides etc), lost the post and photo the first time . Cheers guys (& ladies), really enjoying this site. Copafisher (Steve)
  8. If they had cut across from the Half tide markers, going over the sand flats (wide of Lobster) they mave have encountered one, if the swell was coming from the south. The channel markers run tight along the edge of Lobster beach & Little Box head. You can cut across as many boats do, but you need to be careful of shallow water and the sand banks (& waves if conditions are right). I generally stick to the channel, but will shortcut if tide is high, there is channel traffic and I can see depth and watch my sounder. While fishing near Lobster, I have seen guys surfing out there . They paddle over from Lobster. Its not actually ocean, being part of Broken Bay but it can get decent ocean swell in the right conditions. See http://www.nswseakayaker.asn.au/photos/mon...2007/200704.htm Thought to go over and play in the lesser parts of the waves with the boat , but thought better of it. I had my young bloke onboard and it didn't look like the place to get it wrong and have the boat dumped by a wave . The waves were twice the size as that in the photo, they were getting tubes as it broke. Keep it safe out there. If you cant see it you cant avoid it, and if your not familiar with different conditions you can get caught. Steve
  9. QUOTE(nexus @ Jul 12 2007, 07:09 PM) the winning bidders so far for the top reels have not got there ebay I.D.s displayed instead it will have bidder 1,or bidder 2,or bidder 4,whatever number they choose.because they wont disclose there names, instead want to be anonymous, why?because they are not genuine bids. As DavidL & Dicko indicated, it is just the new eBay policy. Ebay have a note up explaining To help keep the eBay community safe, enhance bidder privacy, and protect our members from fraudulent emails (such as fake second chance offers), eBay has changed how bid history information is displayed. If you place a bid on a higher-priced item, only you and the seller of the item can see your User ID in the bid history. Other members will only see anonymous names, such as Bidder 1. You can check bidder history to see if recent/bids etc even if only shows as Bidder1, 2 etc. If its worth the money other will bid for it, so you will always get some competition. If you think dummy bids dont buy it if it goes above your $ limit. I have been caught out more buying SH gear that is indicated as "as new" but is anything but. I am more careful now, but have got some good bargains. Tight lines Copa
  10. Given the swell at Avoca this afternoon, Snapper Rocks might be hard to get to from the carpark. I would have thought it would be front on to the swell. Ray R was down at Avoca today and got a good photo http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.ph...c=22764&hl= Given how Avoca, Terrigal & the Skillion were awash today (4pm), I think I will wait till Sunday or Monday before I give Avoca a try. Where were you going ?
  11. Ray R, It was fairly decent swell wasnt it, I was there about 3-4pm. Probably standing right near you if you were there around then from your photo. There wasnt too many braving the surf. No one was out at Copa, there were 4-8 out at Avoca (some good rides too!) and about 20 off Terrigal. Avoca seemed to have the better surf. Definitely wasnt a time to be on the ledges. I have been off for near 2 weeks and still havnt got the boat in the water, or had a fish off the rocks or beach and have now had the 4 day weekend at Sofala cancelled. The weather doesnt look promising, but Sunday & Monday are looking better so I will definitely be launching & getting a fish in before I am back at work Tuesday. Steve.
  12. Just needs a walk around up front and it would make a great platform.
  13. G'day Ray & Flathead Fanatic, As the tag suggests I am from Copa also. Hope to see you around, will ask next time if a raider member. Normally dont fish off the stones but its quicker than putting the boat in Have not targeted drummer yet, but Avoca wouldnt be a bad site. At least it gets some sun & warmth this time of the year, unlike Copa point. A good surfcam site I recently found for Avoca's swell & waves is http://www.coastalwatch.com/camera/cameras...t=10:08:54%20PM Steve
  14. Rob, That is a very nice yak, particularly love the albatross inlay. You should be very proud ! The kingies should give you an awesome ride in that Steve
  15. Another possibility is Ranaud's or white finger. Cold makes it worse as does vibrations eg whipper snipper / chainsaw / hammering etc. I seem to have damaged my hands from drilling / hammering / chopping / chainsaw etc when I was younger (I'm 45). I did the arthritis & Carpal Tunnel tests but both came back negative. Mine go numb if I use whipper snipper and if I dont rest them makes it worse. Cold makes it worse, like wetting them in a cold environment. Go see the doctor to do the appropriate tests. May just prove what you dont have, but at least you tried. I also know that some foods & drinks seem to make it worse, something like gout. Best wishes, I know what a pain it is, and I dont have it bad ! Copa
  16. Brings back some memories . Lived at Katoomba for 7 years till the realised she didnt like snow, moved to warmer climate now nearer the , not that I am catching any lately . Steve
  17. Have heard of them being used by charter operators. Google search will identify a number of Aust. users, could contact them to find if Aust distributor. Try http://www.fish307.com/index.asp?PageActio...amp;ProdID=6742 they have on sale for $1200 US . They have a contact page also. Mate of mine made one with underwater camera and laptop, reckons its great for catching crabs . Try Steve Williamson's Lake Jindabyne Trout Fishing Adventures. Phone: 0408 024436 He apparently has one
