  1. Not sure about Botany but my experience is that they shut down through winter and loose a lot of condition if you can get them.

I have always done best around tide changes and fresh flatty carcase is hard to beat for bait.

also found around built up areas it best to stay close to your traps as there are some very helpful people out there quite willing to check or even take home your traps.

  2. Thanks for the reports, that was a good read. Wish I could fish for a week straight!

Interesting observations too regarding the moon phase and Kings cruising through the yakkas. Would love to hear the thoughts of more experienced fishos.

I've heard the theory before about the falling barometer slowing down the bite. Apparently has to do with the pressure affecting the fish's organs such as swim bladder and stomach. i.e falling barometer compresses the fishes organs, making them less hungry while a rising barometer results in less pressure on their organs, expanding the stomach and making them more likely to feed.

I don't mean to be a drag but a falling barometer would pose less preasure on a fish not more, not suggesting I have any better ideas though. how a marlin in 600 meters deep water knows a tide change is occurring is a mystery too me.

  3. Good to see you are on the mend Paikea. As one of those "RAMP JOCKEYS" I am vey envious.

Just as I tell my old man, don't take your health and spare time for granted, life is there to be lived and there are too many days spent working for the man to not go fishing when u can.

If u need a decky I am sure there is no shortage a guys on this site who would put their hand up. I ll PM u next time I get an rdo and the weather looks ok my boat your spots.

  4. That's mad, although some one on here was reporting being bitten clean of trolling off the heads a few weeks ago. as far as global warming being the cause im not so sure. probably 25 years ago there were reliable reports of green job fish caught at jb and I caught a 32 pound wahoo of the banks down there also.

  5. Yeah mate, as an after thought I asked the guys selling the radio if my old aerial would work, oh no they replied u need a new aerial aswell.

Only after getting home and doing some research I find you are supposed to be licenced to use it also. is this one of those rules I am expected to ignore as I know several guys using vhf with no certs.

  6. The only locals that are a problem there are the venomous type that have no limbs. There are other areas on the other side of the bay where "the locals" can be a problem.

Places like the tubes can get packed and there are rules to be followed.

  7. I have just bought a VHF radio to replace my 27 meg which just failed.

The guys I got it from weren't much help.

The unit I got is a lawrance link 5.

I am wondering what you guys think of them and who to log in with fishing around Sydney heads and up and down the coast botany to broken bay.

  8. Top fish mate. persistence well rewarded. Good on u for releasing it, that said I am sure no one would have begrudged you taking it home for a feast for family and friends.

Do you want to name the beach or should we refer to it as spot x. :biggrinthumb:
