  2. Hi Rod, problem solved, pulled out the popper valve and thermostat, suprizingly there was not much salt build up for a 12year old motor. Valve still good but Thermo was seized, gave it a good cleanup and a bit of lubricant then did the dangle by a string test in heated water, worked like a charm. replaced with new gasket and grommet ran the motor up to full temp. alls good the telltale flow is good and temp luke warm same as normal. Thanks Rod, appreciate your time and help. Thanks to Stewy and the guys to, for keeping the sight running, Its great to know there is always a "Raider" here willing to help other members with questions on any subject they need an anwer to. Regards, Gary
  3. Hi Rod, so what you are saying is the themostat is possibly faulty ?
  4. Hey b-fore-tony, Ihave aweekend at Patonga soon with a fishing club I have just joined, I have never been there before so can you give me some tips as to where and what type of fishing I can do in that area. I will be taking my boat so I am good for estuary or a couple of klms outside.
  5. Hey you guys , Im jealous, I think I'm in love, do your wifes have a twin sister LOL ? my wife hates anything and everthing about fishing ,except the fact of really enjoying any fish I bring home. Where do you find this type of girl? I'm thinking of having ANN (my wife) hypnotised so she will at least accompany on the boat accasionally LOL
  6. Hi all, I have a question that someone maybe able to answer, I have an "95" model Merc 60 hp that has always run like a dream. I have never had any major problems with it and have always kept it fully serviced and in prime condition. after its last run I was at home giving the motor the usuall flush out with fresh water ( before anyone jumps down my throat, I have a rainwater tank and pump ,luckily its been topped up with the recent rain, so lets not have a water shortage debate LOL ) anyway I noticed that the water coming from the 'telltale' was very hot, much more than usuall, its normally just warm. it was pumping out at normal pressure so there was no blockage. QUESTION ? Is this an indication of a looming problem? The oil resevoir was low at under a quarter but this seems to be indicating an internal problem ie thermostat, pump, possibly crankcase,Oh shit! so can someone give me some advice as I am going away soon for a weekend fishabout and would hate to breakdown in the middle of nowhere! Thanks in advance for any info
  7. Thanks Stewy, I have since pillaged my grandkids toybox and now have 2 plastic whistles hanging off the back of each seat. If any footy referees out there are short of a whistle, come and see me Ive got em everywhere LOL
  8. I average about 2 times a fortnight mostly up the Parra river and harbour but usually mid week. last week took a mate out on sunday(not normally a weekend boater in the harbour ,too many yachty's ect about) and was pulled up 3 times upriver was stopped at Gladesville and also near Clifto Gardens for a fish and boat safety equipment check (passed with congratulations from inspectors) however was grabbed again on way home at Rhodes bridge ,and get this, was reprimanded (no fine just verbally) by the female officer, for not having a "WHISTLE" ie. like a postman has that you blow in,as it is compulsary as a "Warning device"I tried to explain that I have a Friggin great set of twin "air horns" fitted on the boat for that ,but NO, there no good, you have to carry a whistle????. I have lifejackets with whistles attached but she said as the driver I should carry it with me , Am I just having my leg pulled or do any of you fishaiders no the ruling on this. I think this would make a good topic for the Administraters to follow up and maybe make a post on what is the latest ruling to what is required to be carried on board for estuary or blue water boaters . Lets get some feedback on this. I was actually pleased to be pulled up as I thought this is good our fishing licence fees are actually being prescribed for a usefull purpose, but maybe I need to update, I'm not sure I always thought I was pretty safety conscious, but as an old boaty i need to be aware of the latest rules
  9. Oh dear, so much for german technology, you would think that the big $'s you spend for a car like this that boasts the ultimate in automated built-in safety options, that it could at least of deployed it's side airbags (like the old blow up "Water-wings") and dog paddled back to the ramp?? I reckon he should swap it for a VW beatle, at least it has been proven that this german car is capable of floating for a couple of hours LOL
  10. Put me down as a contender with boat and 1 offsider. Hope this makes me officially registered, if not let me know how to register properly. thanks , Hounddog

  12. Gday all, I have just got back from South West Rocks with a stash of Dolphin fish( mai mai) or as my Maltese wife calls them Lampukee?????. As everybody I know raves on about how nice these are to eat (Sorry to say but I don't eat fish,YUKK Spit Kaphooyeh!) I was interested to know how is a good way to cook them. My wife Antoinette always chucks what i bring home straight under the griller and grills them whole. Her family then bog in and clean em off down to the bones, then chuck all the heads in a pot to make soup ( Again-YUKK spit kaphooyeh!!!) What is a good way to cook whole fish ?? at least If someone gives me an idea I might be tempted to have a small taste. Somebody give me a good Auzzie recipee. Thanks, omega 3 free (hounddog) Gary.

    Towing

I have to agree with basic-fisho ,I had a 16ft Haines and it would get the dreaded sway up as soon as I went over 80k. Loosened the U-bolts and moved the axle back ( from memory about 100mm ) Problem solved, could travel along at 110k and the only time it ever swayed was when I got a few car lenghts behind a big truck and copped it's backdraught.
  19. Hey Spic, I have been running a propulse 4 blade on my Mercury 60 since I damaged my standard 3 blade ( thanks to the asshole who dumped a concrete block in the middle of river just of the boat ramp ) I purchased it as a spare for just such an occassion and thats all I would use it for. I found it extremely good for playing around with the pitch (adjustable from 12-16 degrees 14degrees centre) and finding out exactly what pitch is required to suit your own requirements. I can't fault the prop cause it runs sweet in clear water, but I did run over a baseball cap once and it threw one of the replacable blades. I can't really fault these props they do there job, but because of the thinness of the replaceable blades (thats what there designed for) it wont take much to snap a blade. If you are thinking of purchasing one, then I reckommend you purchase some spare blades with the initial purchase. If you are carefull I have know doubt you can run one of these without problems, but as I do most of my boating in the harbour and the mouth of the Hawksbury, there is always a bit of crap floating around in the water. So I will let you make your own judgement. for what they are I give them an A+ but I will be sticking to a solid blade for a main prop. Hope this post gives you some usefull info Spic but this is only my opinion. ( now if I could afford it I would go for a stainless prop) that should leave you completely confused LOL

  21. hey Mondo, I would rather not say the details I have learnt to look the other way now when I see these unsavoury characters keeping everything they rape and pillage from the water.

  23. G'day all, I have just been reading some recent posts from all the guys that have been in amongst the Sydney "Kingfest" at the moment. I agree its pretty disturbing to see the amount of undersized Kingy's taken onboard. Correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is the legal King is 650mm and a bag limit of 5 per person aboard. I have been out at least 8 times in the last 3 weeks and have only managed to bring home 7 legals and lost count of the amount of releases. I would like to know "WHY" the authorities are not checking catches, only licences. Are they hellbent on collecting revenue and don't give a stuff about educating people about our decreasing stocks for Rec fisherpeople. I have had to practice ignoring people I see taking undersized fish lateley as I have been taken to court twice now for getting involved with another boater taking undersized fish. It don't pay to confront these "unsavoury characters" because most of them are Xmas fishers and don't understand the rape and pillage they are causing. All I can say is until we can get the authorities to outlaw this practice thouroughly the money spent on cleaning up our waterways to bring back the marine life we once had is a complete waste of time and money. Gees I feel better now for getting that off my chest. Anyway lets hear some feedback on this
  24. Hey Ben, PM goin your way soon with all the info you should need
