  1. Like you said - a bad day's fishing is better than a good day at work! Hope you have better luck on the weekend, if you head out.
  2. I have found S-Factor works well. Always makes a difference when I use it.
  3. I've seen plenty of rat kings around the moorings (Spit) in the last couple of weeks. I threw some SP's, hardbody and metal lures at them to no avail. So annoying, since there were numerous bust-ups in the area. I assume you will need to find some live yakka/squid to get them interested.
  4. I started out the weekend thinking it was going to rain all through the break, but was pleased when I found that it was one sunny day after the next. I hit the lake first up, throwing some new soft plastics, and not getting a single hit. Went back to "old faithful" 80mm bloodworm wriggler and only had a couple of smallish bream just pick at the tail. That not working, I decided to drift some prawns around only to pick up a bream at 23cm. My partner managed the same, which my Jack-Russell pup found fascinating. Was trying to chase it from shore, even after it was long gone. Went to Middle Harbour to try some land based around the moorings, yet again getting no hits. Saw plenty of small kings busting up around me and cruising right passed me, my bait and plastics.....grrrrrr. Finally, with some left over prawns I managed to hook up a bream, which fought dirty, running me into the oyster covered rocks which destroyed my leader. Measured in at 27cm, so it had a date with the frying pan. Had a couple of prawns left, so decided to use them up. Thew one under some structure and straight away it got nabbed by a flounder. It put up very little fight, but was around 30cm. So, it was dinner for the mother-in-law. Not a bad effort for a lunchtime flick on the start of the run-out, but I was hoping for more. This coming weekend is looking good so far, so hopefully the esky will be a little fuller! Scott.
  5. I'm another to sing the Sienna's praise. Bought three of them 4 years ago for around $25 each on special, 2 are still going strong..... I can't find the other one. Have only needed the occasional squirt of WD40. I also have an Aired (2500) and a Sedona (1000). Both around 2 years old, bought for around $100 each, and really need a service or to be replaced. Plenty of good rods around the $100 mark. Get a store staff member to show you a few, run you through the features and go with what you think feels best for you.
  6. I have a couple sitting in my tackle box that I have been meaning to use. If I get them out int the next couple of days, I will let you know how I do.
  7. I use the Berkely Pop-Dog (in clear/yellow) with great success in Narrabeen. Nothing beats a surface strike! I work it over the sand flats - anything under a metre of water, just use the technique of a brisk drag (not a hard flick) for 30-50cm, then pause for 2-5sec, repeat. They will hit it on the pause. It's very common to have half-a-dozen bream climbing over each other getting to the lure. Ofcourse, using a maximum 6lb leader.
  8. I think a "lost and found" section might be an idea the mods could look into. I have found bits and pieces over the years, and some of them were not cheap! I lost half of my Diawa Aird 2-4kg rod last week. I know it's a cheapish rod, but I loved it.
  9. Great story! Gutted that you didn't get to see exactly what it was.
  10. Thanks guys. I will pick up an Anderson plug/socket and see how it goes. What about a controller? Is there anything better out there than the rotary dial that I currently run?
  11. I am currently running a large marine battery (50amps?) powering a Minn Kota 50-55lb motor in my Jackson Big Tuna. At the moment, there is a Hopkins plug for a "quick connect" plug and a rotary dial for the 2-speed forward and 2-speed reverse. The plug and dial have pretty much had it, so need replacing. I've seen the Marinco/Minn Kota branded plugs for around $80 here, $50 online which seems a bit much. Has anyone seen cheaper versions? Does an Anderson plug work ok? Does anyone know where I can get a good controller too? Tried all of the local place to no avail. Online hasn't been any better. All help appreciated. Cheers!
  12. I use the same SPs and I haven't had that problem, but I find mine come back with two bite marks below the hook though.
  13. All over Narrabeen Lake. Just find yourself a quiet sand bar in under 2mtrs of water and you'll be on in no time.
  14. 40cm isn't long enough. You will need at least 80cm. Ideally I would use 1m of 6lb fluro (attached to 4lb braid). Small running sinker - just enough to get it to the bottom. Not sure about the spot. I use the above up here on the north side and the bait barely hits the bottom before getting smashed if using live worms.
  15. That works for me too. It's all about how deep you put it. It should sit about 10cm under the surface. No more than that as it won't work. Bread or chook feed inside works fine. Berley up a bit to keep them around. As for a rig - Something around a 2/0 to 4/0 hook through the tail so they swim slowly but freely. 50cm trace of 10-12lb fluro to a swivel and smallish sinker. Just enough to take it down to were it will be in their face. Hope this helps!
  16. +1 for google maps. Use the satellite imagery to spot the deeper water close in.
  17. I find the white jerk shad in the 5inch gets some some hits with a 1/8 or 1/4 jig head if it's a deeper area.
  18. The markers on the north east side of the bridge can hold well. Seen some pretty big sharks there too
  19. You might be hard pressed something that's minimum 3mtrs and under 25kg. Most are around 35kg. Mine is 4.1mtrs and 45kg, and that's before the battery, seats, motor, etc. Like Quochuy said, you can't really go wrong with the $350 cheap-o yaks. Customisation is easy and endless, and if you don't like it - the resell value is pretty good too.
  20. I rig mine with just a single 4/0 though the top of the hood. I have learned: 1. Just lobbing it a couple of metres it will last all day, or until it gets hit. 2. A 'light' cast, it will last around 20min or 2-3 casts. 3. Trying to launch it into orbit.... it will last around 5.8sec.
  21. I fish there all the time and have never seen one in the lake. Think it might be a little lost!
  22. I've been using the squidgy pro in the clear colour with some success when the pickings are slim. It's been a good go-to plastic lately.
  23. Thanks guys. Yarraone - PM sent. Cheers.
  24. Does anybody have any leads on where to buy a kayak trailer for a decent price? I saw some on eBay for around $800 for a brand new one. I don't really need a brand new one, I prefer 2nd hand..... the cheaper the better. If anybody has one they are looking to offload, shoot me a message. I was also considering a box trailer of some sort and maybe modify it somehow, but with my Jackson at just over 4 metres long, and not many tools on hand, I don't think that would be an option. On a side note, I have a "Rack and Roll" loader for "Whisp Bar" going cheap if anyone wants it - used once. Not finding it easy to load onto the 4x4.
