  1. It's a great place to fish for all of your "bread and butter" species plus the occasional jewie. Type "Narrabeen" into the search bar at the top right hand side of the page, this will yield plenty of results. Best of luck.
  2. Reaching over the side to "land" your fish is a major hassle too. The big sides to those inflatables can be awkward to get around, especially if you are sitting low.
  3. Narrabeen, around where the football oval is would be a great spot. Plenty of free parking, loads of room to launch from near the cricket nets, and you are within easy access to loads of nice little spots.
  4. Took advantage of the good weather, and not being 'on-call' for work to have a crack at getting some Luderick off the stones with the girlfriend yesterday. Great conditions with little swell and a NW breeze. Found a nice flat spot and threw out a bigger rod with a yakka fillet incase something of decent size was in the area, but with spear fisho's about, there was fat chance of that happening. Sure enough - not a bite through the whole session. Grabbed the small spin rod, picked up some cabbage from the area and dropped it in the wash under a float. No luck on the luderick, but half a dozen between us of whatever is in the pic (35-40cm). Can't remember what they are, so they all went back. Can someone id? The girlfriend threw out some prawns on the heaver spin outfit, a few hits, but no hook-ups (cue swearing in Chinese! ).
  5. I use that and finish with a half-granny knot to be sure. If that makes sense.
  6. That's HUGE!!! Lucky you caught that thing..........any bigger it could take down a pirate ship!!!
  7. Get down to the gym and start lifting!
  8. The tailor are pretty thick around the Spit at the moment. If they are not taking the Gulps, then half a pillie under a float will land you a fish a cast. Hope to see you down there sometime Heading down there tomorrow night for some squid.
  9. You can get those things that people use to throw balls for dogs (most pet stores will have them). It's basically an arm with a cup at the end. If you can mush up your berley into a fairly solid ball, this might work. Failing that, maybe a slingshot?
  10. Awesome mixed bag! Couldn't ask for more on any trip!
  11. Great start to the year!
  12. Best bet is to hunt around for squid, which are not too hard to get on the north side. Look for the sandy patches in the shallow areas. Or try and find some livies by berleying up with bread crumbs - I find chook feed brilliant for this (cheaper and more effective), just soak it in the water first before throwing it in. A bit of peeled prawn or slither of pill works well. It has been a little hit and miss lately, but I'm going to go have a try tonight since conditions/tides are good.
  13. With some nice weather around, I thought I would try a new spot since one of my usual spots was taken and there were swimmers in the area. Tried my new Zerek prawn imitations to no avail. Tried a few other lures including soft plastics, still no luck. Switched to live worms and just had little pickers. Plenty around, just nothing of any size. There was potential, but with loads of toadies around, I decided to pack up and move spots. Was odd that my back-up spot was the only one free in the area, but conditions were good, so hung around. Had a good bag of live worms and proceeded to put one in (well, around half of one) and straight away, a bream just under legal, so back it went. Started to look better with some half-decent whiting and bream in short succession. Changed tactics for a bit, and threw out half a salted pillie in hope for a flattie. Brought in a bream just under 28cm. Tried casting into a small hole and immediately got smoked by something decent before throwing the hook. I was using 4lb braid with alb fluro leader, so it didn't need to be too big to do it! Cast into another hole and got smashed again. This time, it didn't come off. After a few good runs and a decent fight I pulled in a 33cm whiting. New PB! Heading out again tonight to try and find something bigger down the Spit. Tight Lines, Scott.
  14. 1. My 1st Kingy of any size. 2. Ditto with a Jewy. 3. Legal whiting on a popper. 4. Anything other than a flattie on a SP. 5. Improve my success with catching livies.
  15. I was down their having a quick session off the shore mid morning. Saw a couple of guys in a boat on the ocean side of the bridge wetting a line. That wouldn't of been you by any chance?
  16. Wonder what you would have got if you left the flattie in there a little longer.......!
  17. I just went down to Fishoutawater at Manly Vale this arvo and saw a bunch of them down there. They had a tub of them near the front at $10 each - not sure what size, but I think they were the smaller ones, around 50-60mm from memory. I've seen them on the shelf there recently too.
  18. That thing is huge....go the guts on it!!!
  19. Great catch! It's something about getting whiting on poppers that makes it so rewarding.
  20. I found Gulp 4" in the pumpkin seed to be pretty handy along with the bloodworm wriggler.
  21. Can't go wrong at Narrabeen Lake. It's not exactly a secret so I don't think anyone will care that I'm sharing it. Pick a spot, throw some bread or similar burley in the water, If there's no sign of life then find another spot further around the lake. Soft plastics are the pick of the lures to do the damage there.
  22. Thanks for a very informative reply, Derek. I plan to do a little research on rules/regs etc before venturing on any further. Might be an idea to borrow/hire a kayak for an hour or so to see how it goes too. If I survive that without the "jelly-legs" or upset stomach, then the choice is made.
  23. Some afterthoughts: All of the additional/ongoing costs that Tef1on mentioned is a good point worth considering, along with storage (which I didn't consider). There's limited space in my area to keep it, but the kayak would fit on our balcony. Also if I got the boat and found it was not suitable - selling would be a pain. I never thought about the motion with the paddles would have an affect, but it is a good point to consider. Maybe a nice, wide, two person kayak with a flat bottom would be the way to go. I could fit a small electric motor on it.... (because I'm lazy ) and still have change from $1k. I think with the tiny motor I can avoid getting a boat licence too (I'll check).
  24. Hello fellow raiders, I was after your thoughts on this as the summer months approach I am keen to get off the shore on onto the water and increase my chances of a good catch. The only problem is, like a lot of us, I suffer from bad motion sickness. The idea is to have something my girlfriend and I to get around and have a fish the lake (Narrabeen) in, and I have no intention to take it on the harbour, let alone outside. I'm not really looking for remedies or advice on sea-sickness itself in general - there are plenty of threads about that. I take Kwells when travelling as I find them the best over-counter meds for me and I take all the usual precautions in prevention. What I am looking for is what would be the best on the water for people like us. What your thoughts and experiences are. My options are a two-person SOT kayak or a small powered boat around 3-4 meters (I have a tow bar etc). Cheers, S.
