That is a great size for eating. I know a guy who owns a restaurant and he always puts jew on ice for a day. He reckons it sets the flesh and takes any smell away. Well done!!! Happy munching.

Shan,
Well done, RayR and I were planning a flatty attack on Sunday but opted for an outside bash off Terrigal. We ended up with 6 Sampsons and I got a suspected broken finger after falling out of the transom into the drink. We should of stayed inside ouch!!!!!! Ray wants me to strap my hand in the shape of a cup so I can still fish, gota love ya mates eh.
Regards Hutch
Great trip,
You guys make it sound so easy, although it obviously isn't. What sort of boat rig does your mate have? Hope your hand heals quickly.

G'day Boys,
The boat is a 480 Coastrunner with a 90hp Mercury and we use it as an all rounder. It is fine to take outside when the conditions are right but I would certainly not be taking it out there in bad weather. I always make sure I check the conditions and the forecast before venturing outside and ALWAYS log on with the local Marine Radio channel. At Nelson Bay it is VMR Port Stephens. That said, although the conditions look great in the pic, the swell was around 1.5m to 2m I find it's not the swell so much as the wind which makes things difficult in a smaller boat. I have been really happy with this boat but you do need to be sensible about outside fishing. I've had quite a bit of experience over the years and you have to know when to go and when to whoa. Sometimes you have to settle for inside action as we did on the Saturday.

Steve,
What a great report mate, that flatty was a ripper. By coincidence RayR and I just got back from Nelson Bay last night after a weekend fishing trip. Because of the wind on Saturday we couldn't get outside so we fished Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens. We threw plastics where we could and only picked up a couple because of the wind. We kept commenting on how fishy it looks up there with the different creeks and the overall estuary system has great structure.
In my opinion your report sums up to me what fishing is really all about, again well done.
Regards, Hutcho
Aaaah worming, RayR and I have spent countless hours chasing this prime bait up the coast and sometimes at Copacabana. I reckon you're dead right I get as much enjoyment out of worming as puting them on the hook. But it is the greatest time burner, I always get in a `trance when I adopt the stance'.
Well done for passing on the ancient art.
Regards, Hutcho
Excellent catch from the jetty boys those photo's are great. I'm sure there will be some bigger guns lurking below. Keep up the good work.

Welcome Forliano
Congrats on your first bass. It's amazing that different lures can be so effective over others on particular days. If you know the fish are there you've just got to persist, which you did brilliantly. Well done.
Regards, Hutcho
Nice one Ceph,
This site is unreal, I hadn't even heard of this fish until the other day, they are a strange looking, a bit like a blackfish on steriods, crossed with a dinner plate.
Well done.
Regards, Hutcho
Nice one, if you ever want to get upstaged in the fishing stakes, take a lady with you. They will do it to you everytime. Great report good luck.
