  1. Almost looks like a small Megamouth Shark.
  2. Yep, getting sick of it myself. So last weekend I changed it to Leader -> Swivel -> Split ring -> Lure Was also hoping that the swivel would reduce line twist as well. Results didn't seem too bad but will need to test it out for a bit longer before I decide its a far better option. Currently only use the snap swivels on Squid Jigs, not soo much on stickbaits & poppers.
  3. Not sure about that area but I know you can fish Pier 2 (Walsh bay). Should be similar walking distance.
  4. Google forms just allows me to input data in a form format rather than excel. Its then linked to google sheets in the background which is like excel (excel with many limitations). You can use most of the same formulas in excel. Honestly not a fan of google docs but in this case here is convenient for what I need it to do. As this is all online, I can easily view on whatever devices as long as I have internet connection. No need to sync to different devices or anything. There's alot more I would like out of an actual App version but havent yet found one that I like.
  5. That lure is great on Taylors, if they are around they'll chase them for sure. Flatties are great since they go for anything, I've got them on squid jigs even. That location you're at is full of flatties, its been my main catch when I fish there. Fish that spot straight after a storm and I find the fish bite a lot sooner there.
  6. Try google forms. Create your own form to log whatever details. I've tried quiet a few diff apps and some had some good items about them and missing a lot of other features. At the end I just created a simple form using google form to log my catches. Created shortcut icon on my mobile to fill in form whenever I require
  7. You mention a lot above getting a further cast. Sometimes its not important to get a further cast as most fish aren't that far out. Well for me, I have found the 9/10 foot rods tend to cast much further out than my 7/12/13 foot rods. I cant get anywhere near the cast with my others rods as I could compared to my 9/10 foot. My 9 foot I have used for both Baits & Lures (Stickbaits/Metals & Poppers) and whatever I stick on it I can get a decent cast out of them. 10 foot only purchased recently and used once so haven't tried anything but stickbaits or poppers (purpose for this rod is only lures for me). Attempted to run lure on my 13 foot once or twice and it felt like its best left for baiting. I'm a big fan for the 9-10 foots as I bring it out if I'm out on the rocks or down the rivers, whereas the bigger rods are coastal only and smaller ones into the rivers.
  8. You don't think your braid will hold against a Kingie but its ok for a Jewie? You know, I've only caught one of each species before so I'm not at all experienced with them both, but 70cm Jewie worried me a whole lot more during the fight then the 68cm kingie I've caught. In fact I was surprised that the king was 68cm as I thought must be smaller with the fight it gave me. But as I said, only 1 of each species to make a comparison for me.
  9. The purple is probably where most catches come from. Also that side would be easier to bring a much bigger fish. Just a painful walk from parking the car down to that spot. Nice area though.
  10. Could be a big flatty. I've gotten some really big ones near there before. If it was a ray itll just run for a very long time. Sometimes to the point that when you look at your spools and say "please snap... NOW!".
  11. Depends on what they're trying to achieve or do for those on casting on shore. When I'm bait fishing from the rocks, I'm not casting out too far (depending on area) as mostly like the fish are only the drop off area, but if I'm spinning I cast out far since I'm going to retrieve it and want to cover more ground. But really it really depends. Cant speak much for boat based as I rarely fish off boat and in most cases I just drop line down from boat. The only times I see boaters casting as close to the shore as possible are those chasing Luderick/Drummers.
  12. I lost about 4-5m of line because of that. My opinion is that it wasn't worth the risk of losing a good fish due to cutting and tying back together.
  13. Yeah, also just remembered. Last time I was there the jetty there had just fallen apart from the serve storm (not long before I went). Not sure if they had fixed it up now. But you can fish off the sides, just gets really shallow in low tide and snaggy but alof the mullet just cruise in the ankle high water at times.
  14. Best way is to go down and check it out. I've tried it a couple of times in the last year. One was bad timing of conditions, the water was moving too fast to fish and a storm appeared out of nowhere. Other time I brought along the wrong bait, at this time I was there the place was full of decent sized mullets amongst heaps of undersized other fishes. Its a nice comfy place to fish though.
  15. I'd say Daiwa 4000 more like Shimano 6000. A daiwa 5000 is somewhere around the Shimano 8-10,000.
  16. My mates that traveled with me didn't go the extra steps of padding, one ended up having the guides broken upon arrival of destination.
  17. Another trick if your own an iphone is to plug in the earphone. You can use the volume button to snap your shot. If you're on an android, you can hold your hand up and a circle should appear to time a shot in about 2-3 seconds. Hand should be opened and the camera will pick up your hand image to do your shot. Best you secure the phone on a mount though. PS, I do the video thing too since my shots are far from phone but if I did closer shots would be as mentioned above.
  18. Yeah the pool noodles is what I used for the foaming bits. Easier to work with.
  19. Enjoy your trip!!! Been wanting to go there for some fishing too!
  20. I went over Vanuatu a couple of weeks ago with my gear. I stuck the reel and tackle in my luggage and the rod in a PVC pipe. Used the PVC cement to stick on a screw end and other end has a cap. Was fine for me. The PVC gives it a strong housing for slaughter that the baggage handlers put onto it and isnt too hard to make. You can also buy a rod holder but can get quiet expensive for some and also sometimes their either too big or too small depending on rod. Making it myself cost me about $26 and I made it for the 1 Rod only. Also cut up some foam to stick on the rod guides and then wrapped the rod a bit in bubble wrap just to be 110% safe and at the end of both ends, I glued on more foam.
  21. I used to take my kids to Lugarno as it has fencing to they don't easily fall in to the water. There's a wharf near the restaurant at the end of Forrest road. Sad thing is sometimes other fishos like to leave rubbish all over the place even though there is more than enough bins supplied right on the wharf.
  22. I've only been there once and caught heaps of baits (yellowtail and squid). Unfortunately it didn't turn into something decent. The only time I went there it got a bit rowdy at times from other fisherman, but also one of them attempted to steal one of my rods and he pretended at the end that he thought it was his friends rod when clearly all their tackle and gear was located at one section of the wharf. I like the place besides some of the type of people that turn up there.
  23. If you are looking at other options other than bait fishing, you can try a metal lure. You wont need to catch bait or setup bait on hook. Last dozen Taylors I got was with a metal lure, haven't caught anything else metals as I've only been using them for a few months.

    Pipis

Leave them in salt water for while, theyll spit out the sand. Well that's how we used to do it, haven't collected pippis in many years.

You better check any warning signs before bringing them home to consume. A fair few places around the coast where you shouldn't eat them (mostly due to algae that is poisonous for human consumption). TBH I am not 100% which beaches are safe to eat from. Also, I have seen reports of some people bringing them home to eat from some of those places you shouldn't and they're still alive today, but I just like to be safe and all since I have young children at home.
