  1. Boats a are big investment but a lot of fun. Might I add I find when viewing a boat before you crank the motor take the cowling off and touch the motor if warm he has obviously got it running and warmed up before you've gotten there. That way it starts first crack of the key looks good ! bang buy it then next weekend go to the ramp and takes an hour to get the bugger started. This is a problem I found with past motorbikes and it proved costly. Just my two cents after seeing the post with motor spitting oil and not starting
  2. Very true Bessell1955' I will be doing a trip to his shop for a chat with inthe next few weeks. Thank you all for the input !!
  3. G'day all! Worked all day so I couldn't read up earlier but amazed with the feedback, thank you to all!!! I must say I haven't looked into the mercury brand with much detail but I will be from now. The etec v6 150 sounds amazing. What would the oil usage and cost be with that rig. Ball park that is on a weekly day trip basis?
  4. hello all , im chasing some opinions and hopefully some info on motors raiders have experience with. currently my rig is a seafarer viking 17 foot rated to 150 hp but has a 95' 135 mercury black max on the back and she cracks! quick in my opinion for a fishing boat . although the motor is fine i'm currently in a position to upgrade and wish to before the old girl starts to hit the wallet hard. in my boat i go offshore and and going further and further each trip and i also water ski and wake boat behind her down the coast so the motor would need to be suitable for both worlds motor options at this point in time i'm really leaning toward the suzuki 140 four stroke as i've read some positive reports on economy and power, weight and i like the look of them. question being is a 140 hp too much or could i get away with a 115. i guess more power could help but i'm chasing your opinions also the evinrude etec 130 ho great looking motor and same reports as above. i do need to reaserch these a bit more but a sexy looking motor!! . would this motor serve my boat well? all advice would be great help!! thanks in advace all
  5. You Always clean up mate, I saw plenty of rat kings on the weekend but didn't bother chasing as the boat traffic wasn't helping any fishos

  8. Hey all, has any one been out to the fads recently. What action is happening out that way?
  9. Mate it's the ramp I use it's a great ramp. Three lanes great pontoon and decent parking . In fact excellent if your there early!! One thing to watch .. The bloody joggers who run behind the trailer when backing down the ramp.. I've nearly cleaned up a few as they don't stop as I'm backing.. Not like a 5 m boat just jumps out at you. How dare they be so active haha
  10. Sounds like you had a great day out I was at the wedding cake Clifton side until 1030 managed 5 rats in an hour , there everywhere in the harbour it's great!!!

  16. Happy new year all, I've been away for three weeks down at lake CONJOLA chasing the bread and butter fish and living it up on the water the whole time but it had to come to an end and I was back in syd Monday night! The boat was still hooked up to the car and with decent weather I decided to hit the harbour and chase some kings! Come Tuesday at 5 am I've left home and am on the way to Drummoyne ramp (40 min drive atleast) and I hit about halfway on the trip and realise in my sleep deprived state I've left all my rods and bait at home... How do you fish without that??? Anyways an hour delay and rods in the boat I'm leave the ramp in good spirits for the day ahead!! With not much boat traffic I quickly steamed out towards Clifton gardens and when I arrived my eyes lit up as the water was alive and bust ups everywhere!!! And all to myself ! With in and hour I'd landed many tailor and dropped as many. Couldn't believe it but I was sick of it and left to hunt around.... Hour of nothing sees me coming back to the bust up!! By this time there were six boats and myself with more heading over and we were all in the middle of it!! I could have scooped two fish at a time with the net!! It was phenomenal The bust up was all tailor with a few kings in the mix.. I didn't land a king but have three follow my 5 inch minnow to the boat!!! I boated about 15 or more tailor throughout the day and kept 4 and released the rest as Id taken what I needed. Damage was done on 5 inch minnow SP and. A metal blade I use for salmon! I tried taking photos but I couldn't drop the rod to get the phone sorry! Today I woke up at 5 and headed out with my rods this time to the harbour again it was the same story bust ups everywhere!! I was only in the harbour for three hours and Got 3 tailor on a metal blade and I put a red head trolling lure on and motored around the bust ups and I was hit by a nice health bonito which was a first for me!! After that I headed back to go home for a nap as I was shattered but on the way home I decided nope not done yet so I hit botany !! In botany I headed for the drums straight away and sounded the place out and seemed a bit dead so I decided to head to the north headland. A bit of swell was pushing but I'd motor in to the rocks drop my baits and the wind pushed me away to the drop off! Perfect! I deployed a medium size fresh squid and was sitting on my phone when my rod buckled and took off!! After a great couple of runs I pull up a 60 cm king! Woo After the king I decided I really need a nap ( too much fishing) so I headed in , on the way in I was looking at a patch of water ahead as I couldn't tell if fish were busting up or if it was wind chop.. By the time I'd figured out they were kings they scattered and I couldn't find them so back to the ramp and home I go!! All fish today released First bonito ever, first king for the year and first time seeing tailor as aggressive as they were! It's been great weather the last two days and I've had a great few days on the water!! Holiday fishing is hard work I'm buggered!!
  17. Fresh squid , medium size with a 6.0 circle in the top of the hood
  18. Hey mate I was in the bay this arvo and kings boiled up at the north headland but before I could distinguish if it's fish or wind chop they went deep as I made my way over but managed a 60 cm rat off the headland

  21. I had a friend fishing in his tin boat during a storm and he described it like you have and that objects were feeling electrically charged due to the storm. Was lightning hitting water near you?
