  1. Hi Reese If you are looking to prawn JB / Crookhaven way while walking there are two main options . You can go to lake Wollumboola near Culburra (Crookhaven) or go to the sand flats on the eastern side of St Georges Basin ( Jervis Bay area) along the road to Christians Minde. If prawning from a boat then you need to go to St Georges Basin and anchor inside the entrance where the Sussex River meets the basin on a run out tide. Bright underwater lights facing up currentl and scoop nets and your away. As to the best time ??. Well some say the days leading up to a dark moon some say differently , I will leave that bit of research up to you if you are planning to come down in the next few weeks I wouldnt bother as we have had around half a metre of rain in two days. The Basin is brown, the Shoalhaven is in flood and I reckon the murk goes half way to New Zealand?????? Took a quick pic of the river last night. if you are familiar with the boat ramp at Greys Beach in Nowra, well last night it was about fifteen feet under water. The building to the right is the old sailing club building on the south eastern side of the bridge - Didn't see any prawns though???
  2. Hi Jim At the moment the tackle stores are selling Daiwa Monster Mesh rods for $179 as they have been renamed under a different label, and if budjet is important then I agree that the Saragosa is a nice reel but also consider the spheros line. These have been the workhorse of the shimano range for years. I purchased a PE 6 - 8 Monster mesh and it still does my head in how light and bendy these are for their rated capacity. Like Ian I have a fusion and an artificial disk in my back so using something that gives a parabolic bend is becoming a necessity.
  3. Nothing better than a big day on the kings - well done
  4. Well done ,that would have been a pleasant surprise at this time of year

  9. Hi tastee I have a 135HO etec and despite the 3 year , 300 hour recomendation I still change the leg oil annually and would be changing the water pump impeller about every 100 hours or so for peace of mind.
  10. Yes , very nicely done. I'de like to have a crack at making my own. Did you use a lath to tidy them up ?
  11. The Mako would have given you a bit of stick - what sought of leader were you using
  12. Ha ha a bit like the kingies down south. When the limit was 60 cm all you caught were 58's now that the limit is 65cm all I get is 63's
  13. Yep - had the boat chained to the floor in his garage. The dog had access to the garage for security on a chain run. He came home and both chains had been cut and no boat and no dog. Not a very good dog I suspect. Probably gave it up for a pork chop
  14. Theres always that chance, fishing for jew and then latch on to a 10 ft bronzie instead
  15. Its a state to state thing , in WA you are required to carry the off shore kit when going wide , in NSW you are only required to carry the inshore flare kit but then need to be equipt with radio and EPIRB.
  16. A person I know had a "big bloody dog" - they stole his boat and his dog.
  17. Sounds too cheap for a 6000 stradic ?? But to answer your first question - Stradic , Stradic , Stradic. In my opinion there is no comparison between the two
  18. Hi Swifty If your trolling for kings around the bay there is no such thing as a squid that is too big - metre plus kings eat them like lollies Glad you had good weather
  19. Finding it locally at the moment is hard due to the cold weather but if you call in to Mcallums tackle world in Nowra they quite often have some on hand
  20. Hi Neil - as promised the Shoalhaven water quality looks good as at today. My sources tell me that they have been bagging out on blackfish at the Greenwell pt main wharf. Also fished the area near crookhaven boat ramp and the entrance to the shoalhaven and landed a nice bag of duskies (9). That same evening we fished just outside of the entrance and landed snapper to 3 kg. we anchored and burleyed , the reds were there straight away at dusk. Sorry I'm going to miss you this trip I didn't realise my better half had organised holidays for that same week, I had a nice offshore run planned- the blue fin and yellow fin are about just off the shelf. Could be exciting in your 12 footer . Lol Any way it is raining here today but looks like it may settle down- hope you have a good trip
  21. I tell you what , I put some in the pan last night and it was the best king I've ever had , beautiful

  23. When you target a specific species and bag out on that species, well that has to be considered a good result to me
