  1. Maybe they were just a local store promotion.
  2. Although the following You Tube clip is predominately a promo for Lox rods, it explains a little on the Fuji KR revolution guides and the reason for the distance between guides. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXu9vLMT86g
  3. Food for thought. The boating camping and fishing stores currently have Lox rods, and Shimano Stradic Ci4+ reels, on clearance for $150 each. These rods and reels are generally $250 plus, so are a significant saving. I have Pflueger Trions, Diawa Gen Blacks, and now a 1-3 kg Lox. IMHO the Lox is even better than the Gen Blacks. Casts a mile, has a cork grip, and feels nice casting.
  4. G’day Neil In the past couple of years we have noticed that flatties in general are far less prevalent in the lake and can be found in larger numbers in the rivers. We like SP for flatties, year round. Bream are targeted with small hard bodies in rivers and the lake, around structure (in a similar way you flick lures for cod and yellows). Under the mangroves at high tide, amongst fallen timber, and over weed beds and rocks. We also use both small hard bodies and SP around oyster leases, piers etc. If fishing was only about catching large numbers of fish, I would probably use bait, but I find lure/SP fishing addictive. There is something deeply satisfying about tricking wary fish to attack a piece of plastic.
  5. Hey that’s a great clip. Sums the situation up nicely.
  6. A trip to the coast might be just what the doctor ordered for that fishing fix Neil. The rain here has disrupted the fishing a bit, but we will be on the water again on Friday with a bit of luck. The bigger flatties have disappeared from the lake again with the colder water temperature, but the bream are on the chew. Might be time to try the rivers again.
  7. Like many others have suggested, I replace any rusty hooks and split rings. I generally have a small container of fresh water in the boat to rinse the lures in, and then leave them in the sun to dry prior to putting then away. Seems to work most times.
  8. Reedy's lures are located at Humptydoo, just out of Darwin, on the way to Kakadu National Park. Good people to deal with, and they may still do tours of the factory.
  9. The dog seemed to enjoy time on the water.
  10. It must be time for a trip to the coast for a fishing fix Neil. Hopefully the environmental flows will continue, or there is decent rainfall in your catchment area in the near future. Very poor cod season for you thus far. The 1st of September is only 2 and a bit months away.
  11. Back in the day when we used bait the easiest was whatever chicken pieces that are on special, roo meat, squid tubes from the supermarket, or Mozzarella cheese. Sometimes a combination of these.
  12. Yes Savit. The BIL is currently using a single for the belly and retaining the trebles on the tail. He has been doing this for some times and is happy with the result. It may be worthwhile trying it on blades as well. I like the idea of a double, rather than a single, but I haven’t tried either. I would be interested to know how you get on if you give it a go.
  13. My BIL has been experimenting with this for some time, particularly on small lures where the trebles can hook together. His current setup is to retain one set of trebles and replace the front set with a single. Seems to work for him, but I haven’t tried it myself.
  14. IMHO Neil is on the money, although I prefer to use slightly bigger reels capacity.
  15. I can't comment on the Daiwa Freams reels but have a number of Stradic Ci4 and Ci4+ reels. They are great reels. I dropped on overboard in salt water some 12 months ago and it is still preforming well.
  16. Great place to fish. The temperature would be a nice change as well. The sunset over Cable beach is a great sight. Keep the fishing reports coming.
  17. With the onset of the cooler weather the flatties have slowed down in the lake. Smaller ones still hitting SP, but the big girls may still be found in the rivers. If going off shore the following may be useful. Schnapper Rock 32.01.750 152.36.050 Blackhead 1 32.05.200 152.37.800 5 Mile 32.04.240 152.39.710 Elsies 32.05.010 152.39.900 Blackhead Reefs 32.05.890 152.33.240 DJ's 32.06.270 152.38.020 The Barge 32.09.380 152.32.280 The Tanks 32.10.750 152.31.310 Latitude Rock 32.12.600 152.34.200 The Pinnacle 32.13.770 152.36.000
  18. G'day Undy The FG knot takes a bit of practice, and I find I take a couple of goes to get it right, when using fine leader material, if I haven’t tied it for some time. I like to replace the leader in the shed, rather than in the boat so as not to lose fishing time. I only use the Itchy Twitchy and a Wild Weasel for SP or small hard bodies, fishing mainly for bream and flathead. Biggest flattie to date has only been 54cm and was no trouble at all. I use 4 rods in the boat, all rigged differently to take advantage of the conditions/situation. The other rods are Pflueger Trion, but I like the Gen Blacks much better.
  19. I am very bad at photography. Unfortunately I have not artistic ability whatsoever.
  20. I can't comment on the models you have listed, but I have an Itchy Twitchy and a Wild Weasel, (both one piece), and like them a lot. The only downside is the Fuji Alconite Guides and quite small. When tying braid to leader any knot other than the FG tend to catch slightly when casting.
  21. I have the Shimano Nano XT baitcaster which is a great rod. The PX would be even better. I notice that these rods have come down significantly since I bought mine. They would be a great buy now.
  22. Great flattie. I can only wish for lizards of that size. Green with envy.
