  1. FWIW, I purchased a 450 Topender, rather than the Renegade. One of the reasons was the motor well.
  2. It can only get better from there flatheadluke.
  3. I have to agree about the oars, on any boat over about 4 meters, particularly with high gunnels and no oar locks.
  4. For most of us, a fish of a lifetime. I still dream of hooking up to a metre plus Murray Cod.
  5. Seems tough, but we either know or should know the bag and size limits. Given that the additional compartment was concealed, and screwed down, it would appear that the offender knew he was doing the wrong thing. Same old story. If we continue to remove large quantities of fish stock there will be nothing left for future generations. It would appear that he got what he deserved. Fisheries and maritime officers are generally decent blokes, enforcing mainly sensible laws and regulations, but it must often be a thankless task.
  6. He would have been less than happy. Like Ric001 said an instant rightoff. Would take the gloss of the new boat. I live in fear of doing the same thing.
  7. 25 flatties in one session is great fishing dirvin21. 4 over 60cm is a red letter day.
  8. Is the impellor the same as the last one? Sometimes this can make a big difference.
  9. I tend to agree with Adsy91. I have a Gen Black Wiched Weasel and an Itchy Twitchy. The WW is generally used with SP for flatties, the Itchy Twitchy for small hard bodies for bream. I recently purchased a 1-3kg Lox on special at the local tackle store for similiar money as the Gen Blacks. IMHO it is a beaut rod, and matched with a 1000 Stradic Ci4+ it is effortless fishing. Casts a long way, with a really nice feel. Having said that, the Gen Blacks are still very good rods. I guess it all depends on your style and type of fishing.
  10. The problem with fishing is that there is always another rod, or reel, and additional lures, and soft plastics required. LOL. Always nice to be looking at the brochures or on line and dreaming…
  11. I am not sure of your camera Neil, but look for Bulb in your settings. It is for shutter speed which will allow long exposure times. You may need a Canon RC-6 Wireless Remote Controller, or similar, as well. There are plenty of good tutorials on the net for this type of photography. These links may be of assistance: http://improvephotography.com/958/bulb-mode-photography-long-exposure-night/, http://mcpactions.com/2011/03/07/night-photography-how-to-take-successful-pictures-at-dark-part-1/
  12. Yeah, nice photos again Neil. Hard to get up in the winter to see the sunrises (apart from fishing days.)
  13. Great report and photos Phil. Fishing Weipa is on my bucket list.
  14. Hey, some nice bream there.
  15. We always found that black lures/surface poppers worked best at night fishing for cod.
  16. Looks like a great session with the lures on the cod. Welcome to the forum.
  17. Love your work. Time on the water, a nice feed of flatties, and brownie points with the boss.
  18. When redfin are schooled up, almost anything will get a result. TT Ghost Blades in Bloody Ghost colour, red Celta, red Mepps, and bronze Hogback with red wool are all good options. Mostly I use catch and release, but with redfin, being an introduced species, I am very happy to eat the catch. They are a great feed. Lake Mulwala is an iconic waterway for both Murray Cod and Yellowbelly, and both are well worth pursuing whilst you are there. Kieffen's Reserve is a good place to start. If you have a boat target these fish amongst the structure. Oar-Gee Plow lures in either 60 or 75mm in Colour A, Colour GR, and Colour H, and Predatek Boomerang in sizes 65 and 80mm, in colours PT, and EJ, are my go to lures in these waters.
  19. Good to hear that you were able to remove the rusty screws. Another method that often helps is to give the screws a good dose of CRC or similar. After letting it soak in for some time then give the screw head a good smack (or three) with a hammer. Heat is another thing that greatly improve the chances of removing rusty screws/bolts.
  20. Great photos tackleberry. Nice to be on the water in weather like that.
  21. I was just thinking the other day that if only half of the water that is dammed up in Queensland’s Channel Country, for the likes of Cubby Station, was allowed to flow into the Murray Darling Basin it would improve the situation with the rivers substantially. It will never happen of course. We need to look after the Chinese owners.
