  1. That is good going. And the blink and you will miss it whiting is cute!
  2. Classic! Immediate success when rock fishing. Good work!
  3. Thanks for all of this information. It has been a big help. I have had a first hand look at the Hobie's now and for me it is all about working out what solution to get for loading and unloading them. There are plenty out there which is great. Thanks for the earlier link tef1on.
  4. Clifton gardens wharf is a good place but very crowded. I have seen quite a few successes there. Not all legal size mind you... But a kingie nonetheless
  5. Another good looking fish there! Well done on such light tackle.
  6. Landbased in the bobbin head area. A non fisho friend wants to go for a fish, so we'll be going for anything that bites Actually there was garfish down that way a few weekends ago - and they do down a treat one dusted with flour and pan fried Exciting days ahead Tef1on!
  7. It's always good when you catch stuff when you aren't expecting to! Good catch btw. In looking for the new spot, did you just wander around or pull out google maps?
  8. Thank you all for the wise words. We will be going for 2 single kayaks now. Am currently researching roof racks and lifting aids etc. Just looking on youtube and it is amazing the types of contraptions people have built to be able to lift those kayaks up onto the roof. Makes me wonder if I need to change cars now before I buy (or build) all of that roof racky stuff.... Have been shopping around and 2nd hand is quite appealing at the moment, as often the kayaks are fully kitted out and hence alot cheaper.... any thoughts on if 2nd hand if is a good idea or not? Does anyone have an opinion on stability versus speed/performance for a kayak? I was looking at the revolution 11 versus the outback versus the sport. Have ruled out all of the pro angler models because of weight.
  9. Hope that you are feeling better after the stoush with the Ray. Good work on the kingie. Did you have to lift the kingie from up high or were you close to the water?
  10. Thanks for this. Assuming 2 single kayaks then. Would you get 2 of the same model? To make it fair in terms of dynamics? No trailer for me thanks. A trailer is what scares me the most about owning a boat. Needing to be able to drive it without damaging property and then also being able to load and launch a boat.
  11. Hello all. Typically when I go fishing, I go with my housemate - we are both female - so we need to be able to lift the kayak on to the roof of a RAV4 and secure it. Am thinking seriously about getting a pedal Hobie for fishing and to get some exercise in. There might be times where we just go out for a paddle - minus the fishing gear. One of the main factors I am concerned about is the weight, as lifting 45kg's will be quite hard. Does anyone have a view as to if tandem or 2*single kayaks would be better? and reasons? Cheers all
  12. An awesome catch again - and excellent work with the matrix moves
  13. Well, it's what my mum told me. Plus my local fishmonger has a sign up next to the box of muddies saying that when they bite they don't let go. And I assumed that as this happens with nippers, it would most certainly apply for muddies Plus I am absolutely not game to try out the theory myself!!!!!
  14. That's awesome! Not many people get a chance to see a muddie in it's natural surroundings, let alone catch it! Must find some time to go out and catch some..... Wise move with the net... those things don't let go after they bite.. even AFTER you have separated the claw from the body!
  15. I am now picturing a largish gathering if adults with scoop nets out on the flats. I don't know what scoop nets are but i am imagining those butterfly nets in cartoons!
  16. Fantastic looking fish! Good work
  17. Yesterday on a fishing show, black fish were being caught right up next to oyster leases up at the central cost. So maybe not always ocean rocks.....
  18. Not good to hear about the stoners. Those are the people that tend to keep me away from fishing out of fear.... Which is probably why I fish at dawn.... too early for them
  19. Restaurant quality dish there. Fanstastic job!
  20. That's a really good catch! They can get quite angry, so you've done well by chilling it. I have used BBQ tongs to handle them in the past... Reminds me of a time when a friends father wanted to see how big a muddie really was and tipped one out of the bucket onto the kitchen floor.... and it hadn't been tied up..... Let's just say that it was pretty angry, very agile and took a long time to re-capture! (Plus there was a fair amount of screaming from the humans) My suggestion is to put it in the freezer for a half hour before you next want to handle it. Will keep it slow.
  21. Thanks for the pm. Good luck with ur new rod.
  22. That's pretty cool. 2 squids having an argy bargy over your jig
  23. Sorry can't help with info for port kembla. My rigs were used in pittwater and south Sydney but that far down south. The rigs mentioned above I have used successfully for kingies. As well as for pretty much all else. Nothing special.
  24. Land based bait rigs I have used successfully include paternoster with half Pillies, running sinker with while Pillies on gang of hooks, ganged Pillies under a float. But probably the most important thing is a regular stream of burley to attract the smaller fish.
  25. Got a few kingies up at north narrabean recently. Off the rocks at low tide. So they are about. These ones were caught on half Pillies.. Which we thought to be strange at the time.
