  1. I don't own a boat (wish i did), so i fish from wharves or safe rockwalls etc. mostly land based. Haven't got a good set of beach gear but looking to pick some up for a future beach session. Location wise, usually near home, georges river area. But if i'm already out fishing and i fish through till dark then probably around port hacking, lilli pilli, wally's or gymea baths
  2. hi raiders, I need some help with fishing at night, i've tried on many occassions but usually with no luck, not even a single bite. Ive had one session where the tailor went crazy and i brought up 1 myself but other than that, every night session has been super quiet. With the winter coming and sunset at 5pm, i feel that getting good at fishing at night would be a plus. Ive recently picked up a headlamp and some soft lumo beads, not sure if they will boost my chances. Is it better to fish in absolute darkness or fish with some sort of light around? Any advice would be appreciated Also how do fish feed at night? I doubt it's sight. Is it through smell? or touch? And damn it is freezing at night now!! Gotta bundle up, no more singlets and boardies
  3. Hi Raiders, Does anyone know where to hire a tinnie on port hacking? and if so how much? I know there's como marina which does tinnies for georges. Any info is appreciated Thanks, Allen
  4. As requested! Trev cooked up for dinner, asian style. Mums secret recipe with tons of chilli.
  5. Hi Raiders, Since we had an awesome sesh yesterday, me and my mate decided to head back out again today. So i finished up my business meeting at around 12:30pm and pick up my friend. Arrived at the same spot in lilli pilli by 1pm and to our luck the rain cleared and the sun was out. Unfortunately it was super low tide and i got snagged off my first cast... Super crap start to the session. As my friend pulled out the first fish for the day, a 15cm leather jacket. I fix up my line and he gets snagged... Getting quite frustrated I jumped onto the nearby sand flats and had a cast through the weed and landed about 12 or so snapper around the 15-25cm range. They put on a great fight for their size and they're all really fat. I wish i had a boat to get to deeper holes After snagging another 6 times, I was done with that spot and went to my mate who was now casting next to the same old couple on the wharf. The old man had been catching big leather jackets all day with the biggest looking well over the 30cm mark. My first cast off the wharf, i was feeling no bites so on my retrieve i thought i was onto a piece of weed and i was slowly pulling it in. As it came up to the surface, it turned out to be a blue swimmer!!!! Hooked through his leg. I was so excited to catch my first crab. Can't wait to take it home to show mum. It went 9.5cm from top of the shell to the back. So im definitely keen for some chilli crab for dinner. My mate left his rod in a holder and was having a relaxing time staring off into the distance whilst most likely pondering the mysteries of life when he saw a huge tug on his line and the signs of a big fish. He started retrieving and at first we thought he was onto another big trevally and as he brought it to the surface it had spots on it and so down went the net and up came some super hard fish. It was like a roc. I'm assuming its a box fish.. An ID from anyone would be awesome. Also is it edible? We didn't test our luck so we put it back in the drink after a quick measure and some happy snaps. Pulled up a few more tailor and snapper and it was time to go to work. Also does anyone else have problems with those stupid birds? They always eat the fish i throw back and they sometimes chase the livie i've thrown out.. How do you get rid of them? Happy fishing, First blue swimmer, yay! Strange box fish, not sure though. Super hard and armoured. ID please.
  6. Awesome! Come say hi to your asian brother, if we ever bump into each other! Maybe we already have without knowing haha. Yeah that little detachable pontoon was the best, it let me cast freely away from a big family of people Pretty devastating that someone would detach the pontoon and let it drift off... So inconsiderate!!!! Hey Paikea, I'll definitely put up some pics of the feed after she cooks it! If i know yakkas made good sashimi, I woulda devoured this one quick, I was starving when I caught it haha, definitely putting wasabi and soy sauce in my tackle box next time
  7. Hey Ryder, unfortunately uni's been too hectic recently so haven't made berley. Just been throwing bait into the water and hitting whatever is in the area. Water is heaps clearer now! Get out for a session after tonight storm Yes, we were fishing near the pool, but damn those stupid birds kept eating all the little snapper I was tossing back. So damn annoying. If you ever see two asian kids fishing there, one with a big utility belt on. Come and say hi! I'm wearing the belt with baitbox hahaha. Btw wally's was closed for fixing or whatever they were doing to it.
  8. Hey ginko, sweet advice! I've cut up the yakka to little cubes to hopefully pick up some more fish. Let's hope it works, I'll report about it soon!
  9. Awesome thanks Ribs, I'll give it a go. I frequent como bridge too, just under it on the south side. Love the spot, nice and secluded. Always interesting to see the goodies left behind by various people. IE Gatorade bongs ahaha
  10. Hey Raiders, So after training my client today, I went out with a friend who was busting for a fish after his international marketing exam. I picked him up at about 2:30pm and head off to Wally's to have a flick. When we pulled up at Wally's the whole place was filled with trucks and boats working on a new pontoon/repairing the old one, i think? So the whole area was off limits. Thus we head off back up the hill and move on to lilli pilli. Upon arrival, we saw an old greek man pull up a few big black leatherjackets and trevally so we were keen to have a flick ourselves. I started by picking up about 10 or so undersize snapper (5-25cm) and then finally something hit, and it felt big. Started to pull a little drag and man it was fun on a 2-4kg rod, soon enough we saw something silver flash up on the surface and down went the net to scoop up the first trevally of the day! It went approximately 32cm, excuse my pics below, couldn't place the fish properly as it was super slimy. After few snapper later, my mate got snagged on someone elses lost line in the drink and as I went to help him my rod bent down hard and as I struck with one hand, someone fat was on again. Still helping my mate, I started reeling and at this stage we dropped the snagged rod and got the net, as we went down to scoop him, out came the hook and off swam the fish, it looked a good 35cm+. A few more casts in, I was hooked onto something subtle, almost didn't realise I had something on the end of the line and I pulled up a big fat yellowtail scad at 27cm, can someone confirm for me please? (It's the first time I've gotten one so I'm not sure haha). Also are they good for bait? And if so how do I prepare it? Live bait for big fish, or cut to pieces? As we broke off the snagged line, I kept casting and as I thought i landed the perfect cast right next to a boat, I felt a giant tug and the fight began. For a good 3-4 minutes I fought this sucker and I was so eager to get him out of the water as he looked quite huge. Luckily the net was super handy this time and we brought it up. Went a nice 38cm and it was quite fat too. Again sorry for the lopsided fish in the pic, couldn't straighten him as he kept flopping. Fished on for a few more little pickers and then the sun set so the bites left aswell. Took the fish home to a happy mum whose preparing a nice big chinese feast for Saturday! Saved her some money buying fish from the market. Happy fishing, Allen Happy me Fat yellowtail 1st Trev 2nd sloppy Trev
  11. Thanks guys, aslong as fish are there it'll be awesome. I only usually catch for fun, especially from the georges.
  12. Hi! Does anyone know how the George's is faring? My mate just finished an exam today and is keen for a fish after dinner. Not sure how the water is though as I haven't checked it out since last week. Is it still brown? debris? no fish? We'll be heading to the wharf near captain cooks bridge to see how it goes. Any insight would be awesome. Let's hope the rain doesn't come down in the next few hours
  13. Graphite is a conductor for electricity... so you know flicking a 6 foot long pole in the air during a lightning storm is pretty damn safe! Don't worry, you'll be fine. But in all seriousness... don't do that unless you want to get fried. SUPER DANGEROUS! General rule for storms, don't be the tallest structure in the middle of open ground, especially if you're holding a highly conduct-able long pole. Stay safe.
  14. Hacking was green yesterday! Looking a lot better
  15. Hey papafish, i was there around 12-5 during that rainy period of the day. I read somewhere that fish go crazy on the bite just before and during a rain. Something about the low pressure making them want to feed and the rising pressure turning them off. When abouts were you there? And how does a squid feel? I've never caught one before but im eager to try haha Thanks Big Neil, hopefully ill keep smashing those exams and then straight out for another fish!
  16. Awesome Reubs, never seen a sweep before, thanks for the ID
  17. Hi Raiders, This is my first report so I hope you guys enjoy it! So this week has been a crazy week full of rain, floods, lightning, thunder and even the crazy hail/snow storm. I hope everyone is doing okay and is safe! I've been itching for a fish the whole week and went over the past few days to test out the George's river only to find that it was a chocolate milkshake with absolutely 0 fish about. Not even the little baitfish... So it's been a disappointing past few days fishing but today I took a friend down to the Hacking to give it a go to see if the waters were nice and to my surprise when I got to Wally's I could actually see the bottom. Not only did I see the bottom but earlier that morning, someone discarded what looked to be a now filleted 1m+ kingy carcass. After a week of staring at disgusting brown water, you could imagine how excited I was to feel even just a nibble, I ran across the little bridge thing almost slipping and dieing in the process but made it alive. As we go onto the actual pontoon, the arvo rain picked up and on came our raincoats. Super excited, I put on a piece of chicken and cast out, 5 seconds later I was smashed by what I thought was a whopper but out of the drink came a MASSIVE 5cm juvenile snapper. As you can tell I was probably very excited to even feel a nibble let alone a bite, so off the hook he came and back into the drink he went. Now the heart rate was pumping and I was getting crazy happy, re-baited and cast out again and bang within seconds picked up by what was definitely bigger now. Pulled it up and saw that it was a 25cm juvenile snapper, and damn they are beautiful. A nice dark crimson red with glowing green dots and blue fins!! So majestic as they reflect light. Anyway as I hook up a 3rd time my mate is finally ready to cast and within seconds brings up his own fish. Not sure what it was but I'm going to guess its a baby trevally (edit* it was a sweep), the photo will be below. By this stage we were super excited as we had both just come off exam week aswell and hadn't brought up anything in the past week or so. It soon turned into an all out competition on who could catch the most fish. We were literally getting smashed off everything, chicken, squid, heart, beef, and even the hardbody. All in all in total we brought up 47 fish with another friend joining after work. The competition tally ended up as (drumroll please). Me: 32 fish Friend 1: 11 fish Friend 2: 4 fish Unfortunately none of them were keepers so atleast we had a bit of fun practicing our striking techniques and casting techniques! But hey a bite is a bite and that's why I love fishing, just feeling the fish's weight behind the rod is an awesome feeling! Definitely excited for another sesh later next week! The fish species count turned out something like this: Tailor: 14 Juvenile Snapper: 26 Yellowfin bream: 6 Mystery Silver (trevally?): 1 oh and I snagged a starfish which was pretty interesting... Happy fishing raiders, the waters are clearing and it's looking good. Hopefully I can plate one later this week That's the strange one^
  18. Pretty sure George's is still chocolate or atleast coffee! Not sure about the hacking, I want to get out for a fish tomorrow before the next storm
  19. Had a look just now at the Georges river entrance near botany bay with a few mates and it's brown... tossed a line in for an hour on several different baits and nothing at all, not even a nibble. The water looked pretty murky and quite a bit of rubbish and sticks floating around. Lets hope it clears up soon!
  20. Hi raiders! Thought I'd introduce myself as this current storm has killed my electricity and all I can think about is when I can wet a line next. My names Allen and I'm a 19yr old student studying a bachelors of science with majors in nutrition, metabolism and physiology at USYD and I'm also a part time personal trainer. I've been fishing ever since I was 6, after my grampa and dad took me up to the entrance and foul hooked a little whiting in the gut. Instantly I was hooked and have been rockfishing and river/wharf fishing since. It's been about 4-5 years since I've properly fished and just recently I've decided to get back into it. Buying my own rods and gear I've motivated a group of friends to join me to fish mostly on weekends and fridays/ whenever we get a chance. I live in the bexley area and don't own a boat so im restricted to mostly land based fishing. But I hope to one day pull up the elusive jew or maybe even a kingy. I fish mostly the georges and hacking systems and you'll see me in my blue bucket hat and home made tackle belt wearing a sydney high athletics long sleeve. Feel free to say hi and have a chat This community is awesome and fishing definitely brings everyone together! Better health = long time to fish
  21. Killed it Seb!! Mad catch, keen for a fish soon? After my exams
