  3. Gday Raiders, I'll be camping with the family up in budgewoi this weekend, anyone know of any good spots up that way. I've fished the entrance plenty of times but never been up budgewoi way for a flick as yet. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated ... i'll be taking the boat which is a 4m punt style tinny so the shallow areas generally arent too much of a prob
  4. I'll be camping and fishing at Patonga with a bunch of mates .. just have to hope the rains stay away
  5. Gday Raiders, Whats all ur plans for this weekend? Weather dont look the best (for sydney) but im thinkin sunday might be ripe for an early morning assault on the harbour. Think i might hit the rose bay area and chase some kings and if no love their move on to the flatties.

Yea i use the same method .. piece of p%$s with the blue swimmers .. but the muddies can give ya a bit of a wrestle at times
  7. I've always thought my old man had the best saying regarding sharks and beaches. "sharks dont swim in Pubs so i dont swim in Beaches!"
  8. Which is pretty much what i got em in .. and the water was about 21.5c if i recall And yes stylo i was a bad boy .. i thought the limit was 33cm for duskys .. i now know better .. its the sand flatties which are 33
  9. As Pete said .. Most of the dioxins in Sydney came from that one site in Homebush .. theres also something about the particular type of dioxin they emiited which was worse than other dioxins .. or something like that .. i work for a govt dept and was able to go to an internal seminar on the dioxins in the harbour! Interesting piece of info i got from said seminar ...... Mullet and Tailor caught in balmoral had much higher levels of dioxins than flathead caught in homebush bay! Go figure .......
  10. Headed out yesterday morning at 5am hoping for a nice relaxing day of berley and bait fishing. Did the usual squid hunt on me way out to the heads for no luck and also no luck when trolling a couple of lures along south head. Same result again when i drifted and dropped a few pilly baits in about 20-25m of water off sth head. Headed back inside with the aim of anchoring near sow and pigs and getting a good berley trail going with a few baits out ... that plan was great ... until i realised that the U bolt connecting my anchor rope and chain had come undone .. of course i only realized this as the anchor disappeard under water ... so much for the plans!!! Decided to head into rose bay and do a bit of drift .. managed 1 just legal flatty which was returned. Headed into a bay in Cremorne and tied up to an empty mooring. First cast i launch a 5" mullet coloured gulp shad toward the shore then go about sending out 2 other rods with bait. Get them done, pick up the first rod with the gulp .. and im on .. i quickly call it as a flattie (typical head shakes) but then half way in the thing starts going berko .. i started thinking maybe it was a bream .. then it gets to the surface and its still going mental .. but at about 35cm the 10lb braid was never really in trouble. I decide i wouldnt mind some flatty fillets for dinner so he goes in the esky. I cast the gulp out to the same area and and let it sit while i checked the other rods again ... once again i go back to the rod with the gulp and as soon as i pick it up ... im on again ... once again i fel the flatty headshakes .. and once again the thing start going berserk about half way in .. get it to the surface and the little bugger actually launched itself in to the air going mental with head shakes ... anyone ever seen a flatty do that b4??? anyway i boated him at just under 40cm and into the esky he went. No more flatties after that but i think i have an idea why the flatties were going berko .. hooked onto a miniscule snapper (so small didnt know id hooked him) and as i was pulling him i saw a big brown shadow following him .. didnt get a clear look .. but it looked like a mega sized flattie .. so possibly it was following the other two id caught. All in all not that bad a day thanks to the flatties

    Melbourne Cup

Personally i'll be cheering home 'Princess Coup' in the Cup. I had a free $25 bet on her week before last to win $500 Main dangers in the race i think are: Zipping & Maybe Better
  14. Excellent ad .. i even cried at the end!
  15. Yea the V8's are a struggling format .. if they dont do something soon i reckon they've got about 5yrs left max. Holden & Ford will only ever work in Australia ... and how is it that the leading car manufacturer in the country (toyota) cant even enter the series?
  16. LOL .. yea ive already got the 50lb loaded onto me big rod ... but thats just not as much fun
  17. Headed out after work again yesterday to chase a few kings once more. Launched from Drummoyne at 4:30 and headed to my usual area ... i arrive quickly begin casting the SP's in earnest. SP's used were: 9" Flickbait (pilly), 4" stickbait (black/gold speck), 6" mojo stickbait, 5" mullet powerbait ... all to no avail. Went away and tried a few bays for no luck so headed back to the mark and thought id try a different approach. A change was in order so i switched the light rod over to a heavier jighead (3/8) and switched to the good ol trust Berkley Gulp 3" bass minnow in pumpkinseed colour (cant recall how many bream and flatties ive caught on those gems) it was the last one i had left in the pack. I throw it out the back and let a bit of line while drifting before i start bouncing the SP along the bottom, same as u would for flatties .... on about the 5th lift the line goes taught and the rod starts to bend .. IM ON Started working him gently towards the boat (with the 10lb braid) and after about 2 mins im guessing he eventually ticked on to what was happening .. because then he really went, straight down and under the boat and headed for some nearby pylons .. i was able to hold on and manouvre the rod and line around the motor however i notice now that the bugger is slowly pulling me (along with the drift) closer and closer towards the pylons .. which im thinkin cant be good. So i move back into me seat bent rod still in had and am just about to kick over the motor to move myself into clearer waters when PING ... snap goes the braid Tried for another 15mins for no luck so headed off and was back home by 6:30
  18. Nice work ... gotta get into some of that night time jew fishing meself i think!
  19. Thats the beauty of the tinny .. i only ever need to bother with flushing the motor out after a midweek trip .. and i live 2 mins from the boat ramp
  20. Headed out after work today with a newby fisho mate in the hope of putting him onto a few kings. Launched from drummoyne at 4:30 and headed out to my usual marker and started throwing a few plastics around (9"pilchard flickbait, 4"black/gold fleck bass minnow, 9"white thin worm, 6" clear/blue speck sluggo) to no avail .. didnt even see a chase. Trolled a couple of hard bodies around for 20 mins or so in the hope of a tailor or two for no go either. Had a few more flicks with the SP's b4 heading back and arriving back at the ramp at 6:30 Thats but was still a top day to be out on the harbour.
  21. No fishing for me this weekend ... I'm heading to Melbourne for the Cox Plate We got 12 blokes going and have reserved seats on course with food n grog already paid for
  22. Saw a program on the Discovery channel once where they were removing rogue animals from the burbs in the US. They went to florida and someone was complaining of a gator in a pond .. so these 2 blokes rock up to the place and find the drain where its hiding and decide they wont be able to get it out so better to come back at night to catch it when its out feeding. Guess how they catch it ............. They drive around in a ute with a spotty until they spotted it .. then they both hop out and they each grab a heavy duty overhead rod n reel combo with a massive treble tied on the end ... they then cast out over the gator, hook him and then reel him in and they did use both rods .. hooked with the first then the other guy tagged him on the second. Now thats a job i want!
  23. Your not wrong there ceph ... when they hit the plastics .. they certainly dont hold anything back! and at 75cm he would most certainly have given the 12kg tackle a serious workout
  24. finally worked out how to get the photo on .. some resizing was required
  25. Headed out after work yesterday to chase some kings in the harbour. Launched the boat at 4:30 and headed out our usual marker. I arrive to see birds casually working the entire area .. but not launching into anywhere in particular. First cast out with the placcy (9" starlo n bushy flickbait) gets chased in right up next to the boat by a big 70-80cm hoodlum .. geez that got me fired up Unfortunately there was nothing going after that. Tried some smaller stickbaits on the light rod for no attempt then i chucked out a whole squid and started dragging that around the marker .. no go also. About an hour has passed and skunga finally arrives in his boat ... the placcy throwing begins in earnest again but also with no results. I decide to have another go with the trolled squid .. but this time i add some stumlate gel inside the guts of it ... drag it around the marker and very shortly hooked onto a 55cm rat king which was quickly released to fight another day. (got a pic but no idea how to attach) Unfortunately only took the 1 squid out with me so flicked a few more plastics to no avail so called it a day and left skunga who was still unable too hook up.
