  1. Nice work!!! Kwell is the ducks nuts for sea sickness. Take half an hour BEFORE you get in the boat.

    Members Boats.

Nice! We call them 'loungeroom boats' How do they handle chop/swell?
  3. Vacuum only. Battery = $109 (4ah) to $140 (6ah) Charger = $139 Unless you own other dewalt kit you might already have those.
  4. You’re a lucky man, my missus refuses to go offshore even on days like Saturday
  5. But wheres the water going to go if its pooled up in the back of the boat?
  6. Does anyone here own a cordless wet & dry vacuum cleaner for cleaning your boat? My boat has a number of points inside that don't drain out, specifically the main floor area. Which means if I'm driving into heavy chop and getting wet I often end up with a puddle on the floor and no easy way to get rid of it. I currently use an old towel to soak it up and wring it out, but there's gotta be a better way. Now I'm eyeing off cordless vacuum cleaners that I could potentially keep in the car and pull out to suck up all excess water in the boat as I'm washing it down at the ramp.. Looking at Milwaukee and De Walt ones for around the $200 - $300 mark. Anyone have prior experience with these for this purpose?
  7. Not sure if it's the same thing as you saw, but what I saw especially as I was coming back towards the shore passed The Peak was seaweed bloom. It floats on the surface and looks like a dusty dirt slick, but it's actually the equivalent of pollen or sperm for marine life. I've seen the sea look like pea soup in northern NSW & SEQ at this time of year for the same reason... Oil / diesel slicks will always have a rainbow colour edge.

    Paper Maps

Thanks, wish I had've known that when the cops asked!

    Paper Maps

Must have been later than that. I was pulled up by a police boat off Bondi on 16-December 2017 and they only asked to see a compass and a paper map, and life jackets. Lucky I had a map in a plastic sleeve under a seat in the cabin. Mind you it could’ve been a map of the English Channel for all they could see in a brief flash at 15m away. It is ridiculous that even with a dash mounted GPS and every person on board with a smartphone in their pocket that you still needed a paper map.
  10. Nice catch! I was hanging around the sand bar off lilli pilli on Saturday. Plenty of good sized whiting cruising around. I flicked a whiting popper around for a while, right passed their noses, they weren't interested. Others on a nearby boat were using with live worms, not one caught. Any tips for pulling them out? I supposed live nippers could be the go.
  11. I havent used my yak for several years since I got a boat. They're good, but contrary to others in this thread they do have some downsides: The major one is that you have to paddle or peddle the bloody things. I'd get jack of it pretty quick. Others are; I found it took me at least half an hour to mount the kayak holders onto the roof racks, and then the yak on top of those and strap it all it in. Although I've got a van which makes it extra tricky with the height. Unless I'd go out for a dawn fish, there's very few places in Sydney where there is parking at the waters edge on weekends. Which sometimes means parking a couple of hundred meters away and carrying the yak, and all of the fishing gear in a couple of trips down to the beach, rocks, whatever. By the time I'm done with that I'd be too exhausted to want to go very far. You get wet. Not an issue for 5-6 months of the year, but at other times...no thanks. That said, if it was my choice to have a yak or not have anything, definitely get a yak!
  12. How about the pontoon at Rushcutters bay just past the sailing club?
  13. I hope you don't mind, I put it up on youtube for you. https://youtu.be/c6Wnk2G7sVE It's a private link so cant be viewed by randoms, but it's your video mate - happy to take it down if you want.
  14. I put them head down into a bucket, stick a knife in under the gills and cut right through. Then carefully rinse over the side with fresh seawater 3-4 times. Result is a bled bonito with no blood in the boat.
  15. Barra will live in 22C water. Surely it wouldnt cost you that much in power to keep it that warm over winter. Unless you live in mountains..?
  16. Lookup aquaponics. I know a guy who has a tank roughly that size. He grows veges on top, that are fertilized by the poo from the fish living underneath, and the plants provide oxygen for the fish. Brilliant setup. He has Silver Perch but you can have just about any fresh water species. Redfin are good eating! You’ll need a heater for Barra or other tropical species though.
  17. I kite surf in Botany Bay. Well aware of sharks in the bay. Last year a dog got taken off Silver beach in Kurnell and another little shark was spotted cruising up the beach in Brighton le sands. We try not to think about them lol.
  18. Whoah! That's some bloody awesome footage. Sounds like a great day!
  19. Awesome thanks Rick. I'm heading up to hat head over easter so will be sure to make a trip down to that spot
  20. Hungry head is just south of Urunga. You havnt got them mixed up?
  21. The poor mans version of that is to smear some of your fresh bait over your jig. Esp. raw prawn meat.
  22. Thats my plan for tomorrow morning! If you see a Stejcraft Islander 580 with a blue bimini gimme a shout!
  23. You could take your boat/trailer to a public weighbridge and find out exactly how much it weighs. Some trailer dealers have them in their yards as well. You could also call up a dealer of your make/model boat and ask them what trailers they put them on. They will most likely use the bare minimum trailer size that they can get away with, while trailer dealers will most likely try to talk you into buying the most expensive. What you'll need might be something in the middle of those two.
  24. I'd say that most boat ramps don't have taps. I go out of my way to those that do, or otherwise I take a 20L drum of water that I connect up to my boats deckwash pump. But that's only just enough to flush the motor and give the trailer a brief shower.
