  1. Sounds like a nice mixed bag. I fished there a couple of weeks ago for 3 big whiting, and a few small dart. Lots of small tailor too. Won't be fishing there this weekend with the surf carnival on that's for sure!
  2. I recently had my brake cable replaced on my 530 quintrex by a quintrex dealer, he have me a bottle of lanox to use on the calipers and cable, said to do it every week or two when it's dry, so must be good to help slow rust / corrosion.
  3. Here's the photos. Top one was from yesterday arvo 39cms. I went down to Manly beach today and got the other fish - 3 x whiting 28-36cms, and a dart around 30 but released it. Big one was slapping my elbow as i was holding it by the head! Oh yeah that ralph model shoot was distracting, maybe thats why we got nothing at Narra lol
  4. It could be, hard to tell from that photo, but if you can see vertical black lines down the flanks either side it's a luderick / blackfish
  5. Rubberlip Morwong (good eating if gut cavity cleaned out) Silver Trevally (fairly good eating if bled and eaten fresh) Mullet (haven't tried, but heard they go ok) Silver drummer (terrible eating)
  6. Hi mate Bad luck unbelievable that nothing took a liking to your live baits. We were at long reef on sat and only scored a pinkie and a couple of trevally on pilchards, it was very quiet. Hopefully things fire up very soon and some warm currents push down. Thanks for the report. Beaver

  8. Gday mate Don't worry you didn't miss the early morning bite, we were out at 12 sat morn as well for a few hours and concur that there was nothing on the sounder except those annoying jackets.... we caught 3 of the buggers but only lost one jig thankfully...
  9. Hi Guys Just wondering if there is anyone from Northern Beaches area (or close by willing to drive to Manly) that has any sort of jigging experience to come out for a session this Saturday on my boat as conditions look good for some kingy jigging. After we can do some flathead drifts if they're not on the bite. Looking for someone with: Car (to park and reserve our boat spot in Manly), own gear (incl jigs), able to chip in for petrol, willing to help clean boat after, assist in launching boat. If anyone's up for it let me know, if not maybe some other time... Cheers Adam
  10. Righto, if I ever need crew on the boat I'll let you know... I work mon - fri, I can fish any Sat or Sun. This Sat looks good if you're free, as long as there's not too much weed on the beach!
  11. G'Day mate I live in Manly but usually fish in my boat, I don't mind the odd beach session though for a change. If you want to get out for a beach session at Manly or Dee Why let me know and I can show you a few things.. we might get some salmon or tailor during winter...
  12. Sounds good, im in if youre out jigging or chasing tuna if its leaving from the harbour, otherwise ill have to see if its departing elsewhere Cheers
  13. Where are you looking at heading, offshore jigging or in the harbour / inshore? I could be interested, cheers
  14. Haha yeah meant to say 15lb mono line, rods about 3-4kg, light enough to have a good bend in it!
  15. Ah yes thought it might have been another species of long tom, the photos I saw of long tom had no stripes but a similar body. Thanks!
  16. Hi Guys Just a quick report. Braved the swell sat and anchored up off North head. Sent out a half pille and hooked a 60cm salmon nearly straight away, released him. Had live yakkas out too and got a 50cm rat on my heavy gear which was overkill. Had a few floating baits out for trevally as there have been a few around lately, got 2 decent ones to 38cm on floating peeled prawns on my light rod (15lb), not long after my light rod with the prawn buckled over and went screaming, managed to turn it before it reefed me and got it near the boat, then another long run, followed by another etc etc, finally got it in the boat and measured it turned out to be a legal around 68cm so kept him. Got a few more salmon on our yakkas which we released again, then caught this weird fish on a half pilchard. Not sure what it is any ideas, similar to a long tom? Long tom? but its striped (ps blood is from one of the salmon that was deep hooked not this fish) Legal king Cheers Beaver
  17. More than likely a striped tuna aka stripey or skipjack i believe
  18. Yeah was eating well in close to the beach, when i cleaned it it's stomach was full of baby sand crabs!
  19. Nice going mate.. I fish at Narra beach alot.. got these 2 the other night.. I usually go at the end of Stuart Street. Say hello if you spot a few of us there next time.. im usually with my GF and a few buddies Will do mate... Hi Beaver, I fish a fair bit from south narra beach and manage to get a few salmon and the occasional flathead. I am just wondering what rig you use for the whiting. I was thinking of targeting them soon. I have heard some people use red tubing to attract them? Any help appreciated. Cheers G'day, just a simple running sinker rig, usually a star sinker or similar to hold bottom, then a swivel, then a metre or so of say 12lb mono leader, with a long shank size 1 or 2 hook. Red tubing is meant to attract the whiting but i havent had much luck with it ever, manage a fair few without the tubing. hey boys hitting narrabeen beach sometime this week for a jewy sesh any ideas where to fish?? any good holes at the moment? cheers Mate was fishing in the middle of narra, couldnt see any noticeable gutters... a few small ones here and there but no good ones from what i could see.
  20. Hi Guys Went for an early whiting session Sun morning. Had a few live beach worms for bait and managed to get 2 ok whiting around 32cms... mate managed a nice 40cm blackfish on worm not long after... all went pretty quiet for an hour or so and was about to leave when a nice old chap gave me the rest of his nippers as he was going home, he said he had 4 whiting already. First cast with the nip and hooked up to something, thought it was a bit of weed but got it onto the beach and looked like a ray, looked closer and it was a massive flounder never caught a flounder even on an ocean beach before... was a welcome by catch and wouldnt have got it without the nipper from the nice old gentleman! It was bigger than a dinner plate... Could be a possible record too. Cheers Beaver
  21. Great session mate, thanks for sharing!
  22. Cheers guys Cooked him up on the barbie last night and went down a treat, hopefully they hang around longer and in some numbers!
  23. Hi Raiders Decided to pop down the road at Manly Point last night with the and a few to chase some bream. Was fishing in around 2M of water and the water was a bit green looking. Around 30 mins later after no fish on the bait rod, I saw a few baitfish fleeing on the surface followed by a decent splash. Ran to my tackle box to look for a metal, managed to find a really old 20gm metal in the box, the only 1 in there. Tied it on asap and sent it out in the general direction i saw the splash a minute ago, first cast nothing, second cast ripped it in and came up tight, woo hoo, was thinking bonito or something until it turned and took a screaming run of around 100M in no time holy hell whats this i was thinking, i was on light gear 20lb braid and 20lb leader so had to take it easy if i were to see the fish, managed to get some line back and get it toward the ledge i was fishing, after a few more blistering runs the fish tired and got it in view when i thought WTF's that? Looks like a spotted mackerel? in manly? Im defo not in QLD that's for sure i was thinking, anyway got him up the ledge and looked of good size around 65cm. Seems a rare catch? Any one else encountered them? Guess anythings possible at the moment given the warm water pushing in close... I know spanish are good eating, but anyone know if spotties are good on the tooth? Apologies only had phone with me for pics. Seems some good fish around atm, get out and get em! Cheers Beaver
  24. Well done on getting into some bigger models... top stuff
  25. Thanks very much for the informative reply Peter. I think you might be right being a dusky. Only reason i thought it was a bluespot was because we got a lot of small bluespots in the same area over sand and gravel. Cheers
