  1. I did take one on another camera, I will post it when I get a chance.
  2. Hi Guys Went out to the Fads early Saturday only to find rats and no dollies. Hooked a few rats with yakkas but got sick of them so headed back closer to shore. Did a few drifts just off the heads for flatties. Got two smaller ones which were released, decided to send out a yakka to the bottom as we do sometimes. About 10 mins in my rod buckled over and I was on something decent... got it to the boat and my mate thought it was a stingray or something, when it got closer we realised it was a bloody big flattie, managed to stuff around with the net before finally landing it. I didn't know this type of flattie got so big we usually get them max 55cm. The fish was deep hooked and wasn't in good condition so decided to keep it rather then release it only for it to die. Plus it was late in the day and the only keeper we had. Cooked it up on the barbie and was great given its size, nice moist fillets. Can someone confirm it's an eastern blue spot? Went around 77/78cms Cheers Beaver
  3. Hasn't been there for 6 months or more, doesn't look like they're going to put it back, someone else might know more.. cheers
  4. Sounds like a great day. Did you get the legal kings on lure or livey? cheers
  5. We also fished MH and main harbour today with live squid and yaks and couldnt get any kings... that's fishing!
  6. Not very long mate, about 15-20 minutes from the heads with a small swell.
  7. Gday fellas Short report from Saturday. Headed out from Roseville around 6.30, trolled North head and got a bonito pretty much straight away, then hooked up on a rat went 59cm, then a few more rats 57-59cm all went back. There were lots of follow ups on the hooked kings. Decided to leave them as they were all small and try for some trev's around Long reef. Did a few drifts and got a keeper mowie and a 40cm trevally. Then hooked up on something decent off the bottom in 20m and got it up to the boat and realised it was a friggin shark, i hadnt caught one before so this was a first for me... was quite exciting to get in on board. Went about 94cm... I guess it's a school shark. Headed back in around lunchtime when the norester picked up.. cheers

    Big Gar

Nice catch. We fished the harbour today and I noticed there were heaps of garfish in our berley trail aimed for the kingys. I sent a sabiki rig down with pilly and squid bits but couldnt hook up! What baits the best? cheers
  11. Saw that this morning moored at Manly Wharf. Wonder how it would handle the rough seas out in the ocean it didn't look that big! More info here http://www.earthrace.net/index.php?section=1
  12. Bad luck mate, at least you got out on the water! The harbour may have been a beter option in hindsight.
  13. 78% and dropping fast... When does the poll close?, hopefully soon...
  14. Just got 2 work mates to vote no and now it's gone down to 79 what the!! . Bit of a slide...
  15. Have to agree with you guys here. I fish the harbour for kings regularly and this season have caught over 20 kings ALL of them under 65cms. Which means I haven't been able to keep any for the table. It is getting quite frustrating. I don't believe letting all the 60-65 rats go is going to result in larger kings in a few years time, as mentioned earlier we will always have rats coming in the harbour in the warmer months. I only ever used to keep 1 king for the table after a session, a 60 cm king was enough for a good feed. 65cm is not necessary. In the other states the minimum size is smaller I believe maybe even 45cm in some states?? The best known harbour charter operator (has a purple boat) has said that the new 65cm limit is taking it too far, he believes 60 was a good limit, he has fished the harbour for 30 years so knows what he's talking about. I don't think i'll be getting any kings for the table this summer as 95% seem to be sub 65. Might have to concentrate more on getting some other species if i need some for the table... I reckon a bag limit of 2 over 60 would be better. Cheers
  16. Just read the article in the tele this morning on the ferry coming into work. Totally unbelieavable what kind of uneducated, ill-informed morons came up with this. I hope we can make our thoughts heard loud and clear. Good to see so many passionate raiders unite!! What a joke...
  17. I used to always throw them back after reading what people said about them. Then I read on here that someone ate them and that they were not bad so I thought I would keep 1 or 2 and give it a go. Filleted them and put them on the bbq bit of thai style sauce on the top and they were quite nice... I think I would only keep a couple if I couldnt catch anything else as bream, flatties, snapper are all much better eating fish. Not bad on the odd occasion with a nice sauce..
  18. Gday Daleyboy I was over in phuket last xmas. I went on a half day charter and we only got a couple of small tuna on the troll. I think that's par for the cheaper half day tours. My advice would be to pay more and go on a 3 day or longer tour chasing sailfish etc. There's heaps of charter operators over there and you can just book it when you arrive. Good luck and watch out for the ladyboys
  19. Hi Guys Last night our trailer boat was broken into while it was parked on the street in Manly. They took the battery, life jackets, nav light, boat cover, and some minor fishing equipment. I had a look around and several boats in the area had also suffered the same fate. Just thought I would let everyone know to keep an eye on their boat if they own one around the area, although these guys seem pretty organised so may roam around different suburbs. Anyone else from here had the same thing done? Fortunately the stuff is insured.... Cheers
  20. I just picked up a tierra 12-20lb rod for heavy sp work, matched it up with a tierra 4000 for the kings. Haven't landed a king yet, but yes it does cast a mile. Great rods for the price...
  21. I think it could be Manly's year! The storm are obviously the team to beat again... Sea Eagles Storm Parra Broncos Roosters Souths Cowgirls Warriors
  22. Bad luck on the kings, we saw you guys out there, said gday at the ramp! We had the same luck as you, 1 rat king at a harbour marker, nothing at all at nth head. There were too many boats out there to try any other haunts!
  23. We have a 5.3 quintrex with yam 100hp 4 stroke. Max we can get it up to is around 65kph As for how many litres out of tank I have no idea, we can get 4 trips out of a tank fishing the harbour and around the coast...
