  1. hi all i normally launch the kayak from apple tree bay and head out for a fish from there but i have never had much luck. I normally just target the usual bream, whiting, flathead and tailor but my strike rate is low. Any help on what tactics, lures or even spots for the area would be heaps helpful. cheers

  7. hey mate nice catch. where about do u get the squirt worms?
  8. i went there 2 years ago around this time and stayed on dirk hartog island. the fishing was red hot from the first day with over 100 fish landed each day. we only bottom bashed and was with a charter but we landed some nice fish like snapper up to 85cm, 10kg coral trout and a bunch of emperor. i highly rate it as a fishing destination.
  9. me and a mate head out to day in kayaks in hopes of landing some nice whiting and bream. we launched in sailors bay at 8:30. we head straight for the flats and started the fish the drop off. on about my 5th cast i got a nice hit and the fish starts to take line and the drag is screaming. there where a few good head shakes so i thought it was a nice flathead and was worried it would cut through my 6lb leader. the fish tows me away from the mariner and in to open water. i get some line back and start to see colour. its was a nice trevally with a few salmon swimming around it. i land the trevally and it ended up going 46cm. which is my new pb (old one was 44cm). we stayed in sailors bay for another half hour but we got no more fish so we treked it to sugar loaf bay to fish the flats there. after the half hour paddle to sugar loaf we fished lures for another 3 hours with only 7 fish landed between the 2 of us with 1 legal flathead, 2 legal whiting and 4 under size bream. we decide to call it quits and head home at around 2:30 since there was not much happening and it was pretty hot so i wanted to go for a swim and jump off the baths. it was a nice day out on the water with little wind and no rain. some good fish landed and i am keen for summer
  10. hey mate saw a few kings around sailors bay last time i was in the kayak but that was weeks ago. they didn't take anything except for a small white vibe but got busted of as i was fishing 2lb braid and 4lb leader.

  13. headed out this arvo to try for the first time squidding. went to the tackle shop just before and got some yamashita jigs. very first cast squid, second cast nothing, third cast squid, fourth cast squid. got 3 squid in four cast at the very start and then every thing slowed and did not get another squid. but there was a fish swimming around the kayak and i could not get a clear image of it so i thought i was just a taylor or salmon but then it came past me in the kayak and it was a shark only about 1.5m in length and had a go at my squid that where in a mesh bag over the side on the kayak. i quickly got the squid out of the water and paddle to shore to run to the house to grab my gopro and try and film the shark. got the gopro and headed back out to try and film the small shark. nothing was happening but then all of a sudden a huge bull ray has my squid in its mouth and i rip it out of his mouth nearly tipping the kayak. got the gopro out and started to film the ray but when i bring the camera up when the ray swims away and found out the gopro ran out of charge. i have seen the ray a far bit when i go spearing. start to paddle back to the beach ten mins later and i see the shark again and chuck the squid in the water to try and keep him around so i can see him but i did not manage to see him again. was a good hour out on the water with my first shark encounter out of the kayak and first squid. charlie
