  2. F40 Brand new. 4 stroke Specs SOHC inline 3, bore x stroke 65 x 75, 747cc, EFI, weight around 100kg. Going on a Quintrex Escape 455. Boat is around 350kgs.
  3. Good afternoon raiders, I am looking at purchasing a yamaha F40. Looks like a good motor. I currently have a 1998 Johnson 50hp I would be upgrading from. What are your thoughts Anyone have a rough idea I could get for the Johnno? In good working condition with a number of services recently performed. This is not an advertisement as it is only research at this stage. I apologies if this is in the wrong thread. JA

    My old boat

For those buying old unregistered boats or if you happen to own one. In NSW Boat coding is required when getting registered. Technically all boats should be boat coded in some way to protect from theft. The boat code is a plate fixed to your hull. There is one obvious plate found somewhere near the transom, inboard or outboard. There will be a second one which will be 'hidden' If you are planning on putting a 6hp or over motor on your vessel then in accordance with NSW RMS you will need to get it registered. If you purchased a boat that has not been registered in years but still has the HIN on it then you simply get this re validated by an appointed boat code agent (see this link for details http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/maritime/registration/boatcode/boatcode-agents.html). It is recommended that if buying a second hand unregistered boat you do a PPSR check on it. It will cost around $3, and gives you an indication whether there is an interest recorded on the HIN or not. Ensure that you have a stat Dec stating you own the boat as well as a receipt if applicable. If the hull has no HIN then you simple present a stat dec aswell and then you will get a new code, plate and official validation. If the HIN they revalidate comes up with an interest (stolen, encumbered) then the boat you just purchased may be repossesed and you could be responsible. Have a receipt to cover your self. If your planning on putting around in a 4hp I do not think waterways will be to worried with you. How ever if they do pull you up they will most likely either breathalyse you if they have a copper, check for life jackets and safety equipment and if fisheries is on board check your licence. They wont be checking you for speeding because you have a 4hp lol.
  5. Ok so I went out this morning and yep it happened again. Feeling disappointed a started to trouble shoot. Restarting was not work nor turning sonar off. Using the advice about I changed the viewing range and presto... It was working. I reckon the software is not liking the auto ranging. Perhaps a software upgrade by lowrance could fix the issue. I'm happy I have sorted the issue though.
  6. Lol I can see a little anchor in the first photo. Perhaps water column all the center clutter is. Just changes in the temperature. Could be bait aswell. Alot of sonars will display different readings for different things.
  7. The first one. It is fixed but does allow movement through one end.
  8. Great thank you for the tip. I am definitely going to try this. I hope others can use this information as a way of a 'poor mans down rigger' Although if you were really poor I suppose you could use a brick rather then a lead weight. I am definitely going to let everyone know how it goes. JA
  9. Lol it looks so pathetic. I think it is the funniest looking fish I have ever seen haha. Did it fight well?
  10. Yeh awesome, thanks for the reply. I am sort of in the process of acutally making a downrigger.... Long story lol. So how far from the weight release eye to the Main should I have it?
  11. My mate is offering me a trailer for free. It is a small boat trailer suited for a 10 footer. This trailer is hand made, never been registered as he lives across from a lake. He had the full intention to get it stamped about 10 years ago. We were both discussing that the trailer has leaf suspension but no hangers. The ends of the leaf actually seats inside the trailer chassis. Would this meet compliance standards or would we need to fit some hangers on it?
  12. G'day all, I have made a few big fish shape down rigger weights. Bought the moulds of ebay and thought they would be good when I finally get a down rigger I am going fishing Saturday outside and was wondering if anyone has had experience in just using rope, connected from a cleat on the boat to the down rigger weight dropped down to an appropriate depth with the main fishing line attached to the appropriate release release? Would this work as a temporary solution? JA
  13. Jumper leads are a good thing to carry aswell.
  14. Ok I would like to know a truthful answer. If I am fishing for a feed and I do not do well on target species I can almost guarantee I will get a few colored wrasse and butchers unsavoury characters in the boat. How ever I have never eaten these guys before. Does anyone have any experience in consumption. How would you compare them. I would prefer to deep fry them if they are edible.
  15. Very good!! I have always wanted to give the cowan a go.
  16. Well done. I have had great success on the hawks bury with 1/8 on nuclear chicken 5 inch jerk shad. Good luck!!!!!

    Popular outboards.

I can tell you right now I see more Johnson/evinrude then any other brands on boats. However I notice a lot of service vessels use honda.
  18. lol.... Yeh i dont know when I will be allowed out. Mrs wants me to tile the house on the weekend....
  19. I am thinking on buying a second hand outboard. I am struggling to find out how to do a serial number check. I have the serial numbers, I just don't want to buy it then go register it on my boat to find out it has been knocked off. Who is the point of contact for this. I am struggling to find it out on the PPSA website. JA
  20. Well great to know I am not the only one!!! I am going to move the transducer a little further to the right and above a bit. I reckon where it is the pressure and cavitation is jamming the pulses. See how I go. I wonder who else is experiencing this issue.
  21. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue. I just installed a new hook 4 sonar and tested it out the other day. Whilst gaining accurate readings and actually seeing arches I noticed after a bit of swell wash the sonar would flash 1.5ft. I also could not see the bottom. We were only in about 25 ft water. The bad thing is it stayed like this until I turned it off and on again. Does anyway have any possible theories?
  22. A Saturday early start with the intention to head out to Broughton for a morning run. I arrived at the boat ramp at 5am. I started the boat and she was running for a little bit then I turned it of to park on the beach and she wouldn't start again. After trying for about 20 minutes to get the motor started again I finally kicked her in the guts. With the embarrassment i was having I just kept my cool. The worst part is the night before I serviced the her, new impeller, new inline filter and separator. Anyway I cancelled about the idea of going to Broughton as it was getting to late I decided to head to Fingle Spit. Passing all the rock fishers and those who were collecting bait I started to troll. Within about 5 minutes BANG!!!!! My buddy was first on the line. He had a good fight with him eventually the pressure snapped the line. After his hard workout I managed to get him onto a good Bonito. We then pulled up at the beach for a bit of a bottom bash, catching a trivially and 2 rays I thought we would head back in. I pulled up just near Yaccaba head and drifted for a bit. We then caught a flathead each. Mine was about 30cm and my buddy was only about 10cm. I ended up heading home by about 0930. It was a nice day out. No pics to prove but fishing trips are like that.
  23. Others may disagree but depending on what you are doing. I would just get a light ugly stick and a reel inbetween 2000-4000. Shimano AX series are cheap and RELIABLE. I have had my 2000 AX for about 4 years and use it for SW SPs and still going strong. If you are planning on fishing the banks look into a 4000. Mono will be fine. Probably in between 6 - 12lb.
  24. This will not be your direct answer but we used 40lb-50lb when we were using xrap mag 25 chasing GT.
