    Tow vehicle

Whatever tow vehicle you choose. Before you part with the money and make the plunge Id be doing a google search on= Im having problems with my (insert your choice here) And the search will locate everything about problems with the said vehicle. And how to fix. Google is a wealth of knowledge on anything. I use it to design and build things all the time. As well as finding problems with vehicles ,boats, computers, powertools, etc etc. and fixing them myself saving thousands of $$$$$$$$$ Cheers
  4. Cool thnx. Yeah makes sence stupid me. CT =crab Trap. So 2 traps per licenced fisher person. Yeah i know there are lowlifes out there that steal/raid other peoples traps. Not many fish during the week so Hopefully they will leave mine alone. On a Weekend they prob wouldnt last an hr without being knocked off or raided. Thanx again. ☺

And with the float on the trap the rules says that it needs to have your = Initial. Surname.year of birth .postcode. but what is CT?. I Havent done much crab trapping so i want to get it right. Cheers
  6. Usually old outboards you keep the throttle closed. So it sucks the fuel through. Then hit the choke and turn over till it fires. Dont use choke anymore now. (Its sucked fuel through ok now) Using choke anymore now will flood it. Then turnover and add a bit of throttle And it should fire and start running.
  7. And hardwhere store for a lenth of light rope and a snapclip to use as safety cord for rod. Glad you got your rod back without risking life.
  8. Yeah i know its only for honest theifs. But every little bit helps like you said. Cheers
  9. Security for boat trailers and saves wheels getting stolen. Little idea i had was to weld 2 bits of hardened steel chain on both sides of trailer. Put through wheel and fit security locks.
  10. I guess if they are cooked it kills the white spot. But i wont be eating any prawns appart from ones i catch n cook myself. I think all prawn imports should be banned. Same old story we export our best quality and import crap. WHY!!!???
  11. Just finnished doing your chain to aframe idea fab. Feel safer now. Cheers Ohh and side tiedown goes through rear handles

    Tow vehicle

I love my 1991 direct injection turbo diesel Toyota sahara. Tows the boat well. And just about anything. ☺ Safe as, older vehicle but keep going.

    God help us

Yeah an accident waiting to happen. Especially in this wet low visibility weather.
  14. Just finnished doing your chain to aframe idea fab. Feel safer now. I Still need to do the plate n hardened bolts under winch post though. Cheers
  15. Good idea. But ive also seen those turnbuckles snap. As most are cast. I might do the same with A chain the exact length and 2 yellow pin d shackles
  16. Awsome read Fab. Inspecting BMT Vol 1 to 6. Great for the boating newbee as well as us older ones. Really gives the maintanance steps a memory jog. I guess boat electrics and safty equipment are next? Really enjoyed reading your thread posts. And they will be a wealth of knowledge to new and old boaties. Cheers.
  17. Awsome thread on boat trailers. A lot of what you mentioned goes unchecked by a lot of new boat owners. Another thing that a mate of mine (him being a towtruck driver) brought to my attention was the winch post! And boat tie downs. Ive never heard i Of it happening but he had. was the winch post is nearly always held on by 2 mild steel U bolts. He told me of a few accidents he had attended where a truck or large 4x4 had ran up the back of a boat at speed and the impact of the collision had sheered the 2 ubolts. And snapped a single boat tie down or rope Shunting the boat straight on top or into the back of the tow vehicle. The shock of that got me thinking that these 2 ubolts need replacing with hardened steel bolts and a 10mm steel plate on the underside of the winch post as well as a decent sized V securing the front of the boat. A winch with a strap on the winch post with a load rated d shackle secured to the boat eye. (Instead of an open hook.) As well as large truck rachet straps front and back of the trailer holding down the boat. Ive just about finnished these mods to my rig. Im not saying this will stop this type of accident . But it will maybe just hold the trailer and boat together a lot better in a situation. Just thought id share his and my thoughts on this Cheers Picture found on net as example. Winch post on road just under rear of truck But i guess there is nothing that can be done if boat towing vehile is in stationary traffic with a vehicle in front?? But in the case of a fishtailing boat towing vehicle, In rain etc the extra tie downs etc could just hold the rig together. Untill a safe slow down and stop is initiated.
  18. Great knowledge. Thankyou for sharing, so others can be safer. Wheel Bearings are a big safty thing as well. Usually overlooked as are tyres.
  19. Wow! Awsome report. Where abouts up north?
  20. Looks good Luke. But where,s your drink holder.?
  21. The air pressure is a good idea. Get an old bungplug, drill it to fit a tyre valve, screw it in and pressure ise the under floor cavity Also use a squirt bottle with thick concentration of dishwashing liquid. Spray it around suspected leak points and it should blow bubbles.
  22. Yeah those long rubber tounge ones can get a small stick or forign object stuck in them and water will pour in. Id steer clear of self drainers. I like to know the bungs are water tight. Less dramas the better.
