  1. Hi Roberta, The phone companies have an agrement with emergency calls so that if a network is down you can use any other available network to make an emergency call. Good for us. Cheers Sunnyboy1
  2. Hi Will, I purchased a Stradic and it is the best reel I have ever owned (for a spinning reel). Go the Stradic... Cheers Sunnyboy1
  3. Hi Craig, I just got my missus a pair of Oakley sunglasses with perscription lenses and they look and work fantastic. Because they are perscription we also claimed $130 back on the health insurance. Bargin. Got them done at OPSM as they had a fairly good range as well. Cheers and Good luck. Sunnyboy1
  4. Hi Wonniefisho, As Mike indicated there is a relationship between the ariel and the band. Each radio wave is measured in length between the peaks of the radio wave, this is called the wave length. As such the correct aerial should always be used. They are usually tuned using a SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) meter which allows you tto match the antenna lentgh by trimming the wire in the antenna (or some meters have the ability to do this on the unit without trimming the wire). Also it is not the length of the ariel that matters but the length of the wire used in the areial (usually wound around the outside of the aerial blank) and as such it is not advisable to go on length of the aerial to determine if it is the correct one. VHF operates from 156 to 174mhz where as AM is 27mhz. As such I believe it is best to have the right antenna for the right radio. I hope this helps a little Regards Sunnyboy
  5. Hi Stanfo, You could also use a good outdoor ply (instead of marine ply as it is very expensive) and then just paint it with a good quality sealant paint or even glass it over once attached to the transom. You can get outdoor ply at most wood suppliers (I purchased mine at Bunnings) Agree on checking the boat out further as it would have been a decent blow to crack the seat like that. Nothing better than working on your own boat though and enjoying the finished product. Cheers Sunnyboy1
  6. Hi Garry, Tha carpet in my boat is laid without adhesive but has aluminium strips running front, back and middle to hold it in place. this is held down with screws so it is east to remove the screws and then lift the stips and then the carpet. they appear the be the type of strips you would on your home carpet when you edge it at a doorway or if you were edging up to floor boards. this might be another way of doing it. Cheers Sunnyboy
  7. Nice move and a good sound combo there. I picked up a stradic 2500 a few weeks ago and looking to get a 6000 in the next week. now If only i can get the boat in the water (having it re-powered) then I will be in bliss... Sunnyboy
  8. I have caught plenty of Carp in ther to a good size as well. last year was fishing with a few mates there and one of them latched onto a great perch, I suspect about 3 pounds. Certainly some good fish in there. Cheers Sunnyboy
  9. And looking back in the past we have the following article warning of doom... Prophecy_Fulfilled.pdf
  10. Hear the same thing. Gun bait for Dory. Catch them off the rocks and the around to the harbour off manly for a feed of Dory. Cheers Sunnyboy1
  11. Go the Eagles. It is time to show who is boss... And then a nice cold to celebrate the win. Perfect weekend whilst the boat is being rebuilt. Sunnyboy
  12. I agree, I think we have all lost one or two to a Pelican. Still not as bad as one I saw about 5 years ago, An old lady up the central coast lost her little rat dog to a very large and game Pelican. I can still see the thing flying off with the lead hanging out of its mouth and the dog kicking all the way down its neck. shiver.... Sunnyboy
  13. 498 now. I am sure with over 7000 members we can bump up the numbers a bit. Cheers Sunnyboy
  14. .225, looks like a lot of us bobboing bobcats out there. Now if only catching fish was as easy..... Sunnyboy
  15. Ahh, ok. If you were Northern Beaches I could have recommended someone but not sure for Bankstown. As Huey says, he is only 40 mins away and even though I have not had my boat to him, his advice on the phone has demonstrated his integrity and I believe it may be well worth the 40 min trip. Good luck. Cheers Sunnyboy1
  16. Hi Finaddict, Where are you located?? Sunnyboy1
  17. Hey Wildfish, I am building a similair live tank and was wondering where you got the pump and pick-up from (as in your picture). I like the idea of not cutting holes through the transom.. Cheers Sunnyboy1
  18. Hi Gary, I had a 25 bertie with a single mercruiser. Never had any issues with stability at all. She was a full lock up model and ony had flybridge helm so was up top quite a bit. The engine was a 230hp and she did approx 23kn at full speed. got up on the plane quite easily. I think with the removal of weight from the back you will rely more heavily on the trim tabs and I found that I needed to adjust them every so often. Good luck Sunnyboy1
  19. "Spent 5mins Rigging up a Rod only to realise you missed going under the bail arm...(i am repeat offender on this)" If you do this too often you will realise the best answer is to take the spool off the reel and then flip the bail arm and re-attach the spool. Works every time... Sunnyboy
  20. Hey all, Good suggestions throughout these replies. I have found that a combination works well for me as well. I use the wrist bands and if I am going off shore I use travel calm or the like. I also find that if this does not work that a good hard run in the swell will reset my system back to normal. Sea sickness is caused by the fliud in your ears telling your brain you are moving and your eyes telling your brain you are not moving. As such the conflict causes the body to think you have been poisoned and as a result to expell everything from your stomach to try and get rid of the poison. By going for a bit of a jaunt and really getting the boat to hit the swells hard your body then feels the movement (through the pounding) which is confirmed by your eyes and the fluid in your ears and then your body thinks the poison is gone. As such you tend to feel a lot better. From here the trick is to not to start feeling sick again and the battle begins once over.. Cheers Sunnyboy1
  21. Here is a picture of the sounder when we were over a massive school of Australian Salmon, we managed to pull 13 from this school in about 20 mins. Some on the surface and some quite deep. All fish were caught on lures on the surface. Cheers Sunnyboy1
  22. Hi Hoody, I know the feeling. I never had much luck in eating them either until I learned the tricks. like everone says, keep it cool and on ice if possible, Water with salt in it stays cooler than fresh water so that is 1 good tip. I think if you are going to filet it you must cut out all the really red flesh, this part is extra fishy and can spoil the taste. Cut it out from under the skin and along the bones and you should have a much better experience. If not you can always add the cooked fish to some cold mashed potato (no butter or Milk), an egg, some chopped shallots and onions and I like to throw in some Lemon Thyme and make fish cakes... If that fails then just have a beer... Cheers Sunnyboy1
  23. I agree 10990 (no bus driver though)
  24. Hey Jay, Yep I was on a charter but I am not sure if I can say which one as they are not a site sponser. Re the visa, I was assured at the gate that there was a visa waiver in place. I do agree that it isa beautiful area to fish. So much national park to look at and the water was clean and clear. The wounds are still healing but I think it was all worth it. As for photo's, i am hoping they will come through soon.. Will try and post then. Cheers Sunnyboy1
  25. Well this is my first fishing report post since joining but I though it too good a day not to report on. It all started at 4:30 am Saturday morning getting up and making ready for the trip down to Cronulla from Dee Why for a 6:30 am start. I didn't even know my clock went down that low..... Managed to make it to the wharf to meet up with 5 other perfect strangers for a day on the water, and what a day it was. Started trolling out of the bay with a plan to head to spot Y the skipper knew for some bottom bashing. With 30 mins of trolling under our belt and not a single bite we were all looking a bit scared, where there going to be fish today? then a call comes over the radio of a massive school of Aussie Salmon about 10 mins away so all lines back into the boat and off we head to join the action. We arrived on scene and it was quite a sight, 4 yaks all hooked into some rod bending action, 1 small boat, 1 charter boat and ourselves pulling up to try our luck. We set 3 rods with lures out and the skipper said " hey, why don't you throw out a couple of lures on handlines." Off we went at a good speed and to the captains credit giving the Yaks and other boats a wide berth, it took about 2 mins and off went 2 of the rods, then the 3rd one went off and about 2 seconds later both handlines. I have to admit it was the first time I had caught a fish trolling a handline and now I know why, about 3.5kg of thumper salmon pulling a thin line through your hands. What a rush it was, First the 3 rods landed their beasts, then the other handline got off and I was left trying to pull in the last fish which turned out to be the biggest of the day. A great battle with plenty of aerial action as well. Well over the next 30 mins we manager to pull in 13 Salmon in total on handlines and rod and reel before they went a bit quiet. Ok off to Spot Y now for some bottom bashing, at the end of the day the count stood as follows. 13 Salmon 21 Leather Jackets (Pesky little critters) 1 Great Bream 1 undersize Kingie 6 extatic fishermen all a little sun burnt (who has time to re-apply when you are having so much fun) Days like this will last a long time in our minds. 5 new friends who share the same passion as I do and the chance to share natures beauty from the deck of a boat. Couldn't get any better Oh, except for the 1 guy who discovered he gets sea sick. You can't have it all your own way I suppose. Sunnyboy1
