  1. Hey Steve, looks a gem now. Will give you so much more room to put a couple of extra tackle boxes in and more room for more fish... Well done Mate. Cheers Jason
  2. Hey Fishlexic, I also think you should use a normal float with the live bait as well. A balloon won't let you know when the livie is being chased. With a normal float you will see it start to do some runs and the float will go down a bit when being stalked by a bigger fish. A good indication to get ready. As for catching live bait, agreed, early morning works best, I use a single small hook on a light rod and just burley up with a bit of bread or mashed pillie. Not too much though as you want them competing for each bait that comes down and then they hit harder and hook better. Good hunting. Sunnyboy..
  3. Would that be like 4 cents of a pilchard at your local servo bait store?
  4. Maybe it is Elvis. I hear he shares a room with Salmon Rushdie.
  5. Once while fishing near the bridge at Narrabeen (Supermarket Bridge) I was pulling in my line all entangled in some old line. So to do my duty I decided to get the old line out of the water as well (and possibly get a free sinker) when in comes a thumping flathead attached to the end. Would have been 75cm and when I landed it the hook rusted through and he fell off the line at my feet. Never tasted better... Cheers Sunnyboy
  6. Hey Steve, Well done on the great catch. Lots a fun those blackies. Cheers J
  7. Hi Locodave, I think the old addage is that you should expect to spend 10% of the value of the boat each year in maintenance and insurance etc. it has worked as a good guide for me and I have had a 15 ft half cab up to a 25 ft bertram. (sadly boatless now due to overseas travel and work) I arranged Finance through Finlease and found them to be very good and experienced in lending for boats. but as with any purchase and Finance is a purchase, Shop around. Good luck with the search , nothing like finding that boat and falling in love with it. New or second hand it really does not matter when you can call it yours. Cheers Sunnyboy
  8. Hi All, I suppose it amounts to how much you are prepared to lose to get a good deal. My dad always said, only bet what you can afford to lose. Personally I use http://www.graysonline.com.au/ for auction stuff as it is a reputable company and with a little research you can find some great bargins (got some expensive wine for 50 bucks a case on Sunday, Sells for $191 in the local bottle shop). Unfortunatly they don't seem to get any fishing stuff. Regards Sunnyboy1
  9. Hi Smoothaz, I used to fish a lot of the rocks in Sydney and we used to catch sharks quite a bit. You need to use a wire trace about 1m should do it. I would use a large live baiting hook, Avoid gang hooks. Depending on the location I would use a float and any meaty bait (strips of yakka or squid heads or mullet strips etc) will do, they are not too particular unless you are off the beach then use a good sinker. You dont want it moving around too much. A few tips, they have really abrasive skin so I keep a really heavy duty knife on hand. Watch the teeth. They can take quite a while to die so better to kill them quick then wait for them to expire naturally. If you can clean them on location I suggest doing this as they really have stinky guts. Don't eat anything over 5 ft as a general rule as they retain lead and mercury in the flesh (as they do not have a normal bone structure). Happy Hunting Sunnyboy
  10. Hey Dave, Sure is, I have caught a few nice ones of there. Quite a few good gutters to hit with a pencil float. Either weed seems to work fine. Sometimes you will get hit by a big pig as well which ups the ante a bit. Cheers Sunnyboy
  11. Hi Dave, Right in front about 7-10ft depending on the tide. Further out about 30ft. Suggest using a float or if going deep ise a sinker about 2ft below your hook. Sunnyboy
  12. Hi Guys, I can offer a few suggestions. For the beach, try the poles halfway between Dee Why and long Reef. Good gutters there for Bream, Whiting or Jew. Sometimes pick up a few Noha's as well. Otherwise North Curl Curl is quite good as well. i like to go about 100m south of the lake outlet. (If it is open then right near it) If you want to treck a little further afield then Collaroy about 100m north of the storm water outlet at the southern end of the beach. If you are a bit more adventurous then try North Curly off the rocks. Need to be careful and ensure there is not a big swell, but can be great for squid and then load up for Snapper, Tuna, Tailor, or down deep for some pigs and drummer. Suggest to wear rock cleats though and if fishing at night ensure you have a headband torch. PM me for the safest location as I have fished there for over 15 years with no incidents (other than the fishy type). Cheers Sunnyboy
