  1. It's sure is a lot of fun, the anticipation then the fight on light gear.
  2. Yeah, probably about 5mile out.
  3. Hi all, it's been quite a while since I've posted in here. Was living OS for last 18mths. Anyhow decided to go for a fish yesterday arvo, upon launching boat at Kiama headed off the heads, there was a short chop with small short period swell, it didn't make for a comfortable trip and I considered just staying close for a flathead fish. Glad to say we pushed on through it to arrive on the mark 35fathoms. The drift was not favourable at all between 1-2 knots so rigged 1.5oz jig heads with lime tiger 7inch gulp jerk shad. First few drifts nothing, then picked up a 60cm snapper. It ran well and was hooked I'm the side of the head. Battling to get the lure to the bottom I finally got one down there and bang...big runs and head shakes. After a 10min battle pulled this beauty. It went 78cm. Hard conditions but worth the effort.
  4. Thanks for the reply, is the foreshore dr ramp the one on the north side of the bay near Caltex refinery?
  5. Hi all, I will be hopefully going for a fish off Sydney this holiday season, I will be coming from Wollongong and wanting to fish Browns/shelf. Would the best ramp to use from my direction be Boona Point/Silver Beach Kurnell? It looks to be a good ramp Any input please.
  6. Hi all im shortly moving to Norfolk island, and am looking at a new Jigging rod for kings etc. They tend to xos over there. I took my shimanno Jigwrex rod rated PE5 last time and it went really well. The two im looking at are Daiwa Saltiga s-extreme (rated PE8-10 but really tippy for such a heavy rated rod) Penn Torque Sport Fish- I havnt been able to find this at any shops, anyone used or know how they go? Any thoughts/comments would be great.
  7. Hi BM, Yeah i live in Mt Warrigal. Depending on conditions we usually run to the shelf (bout 14mile)in about 45-90min depending on conditions then head east from there. If its going to take me any longer than that i dont want to out in the conditions. Mind you its surprising how close fin sometimes come, two years ago we were gettting Albacore 2 mile off bass point. My Rig is a 5.5m platey custom built. Usually run out to the shelf on 15-20l of juice. Hows the snapper fishin been goin?, went out friday arvo to flick some plastic off Minnamurra but wind made it a bit hard, did manage some under size kings though. If u see me round come say Gday..Luke.
  8. Went for a troll off Shellharbour today, dropped the lures in at 200ftm water 18.3 trolled out to 1000ftm with water to 18.6 the best we could nmanage, then turn north, then back to shelf where we pulled the lures and ran in, in 60thm water dropped to 16.3 and there were fin jumpin out of the water, showed markings on the sounder, so out go lures again, for a few rounds of area for zero. Water was not a good colour.
  9. Usually good squid over near murrays ramp driftin over the weed. Nice Kings too.
  10. There was only 3 boats out, none of them got any kings, one got a couple of nice snapper. We got 1 little rat on a livie, but bait is schooling up, big slimeys the sounder showed bigger fish around the bait,i assume kings, we sent down livies in amoungst them and jigged for zero, the current was ripin to the south which didne help though. Only a matter of time till marlin turn up there though, the water is warm this week.
  11. Missus and i fished off kiama on sunday, been trying for ages to get first snapper on soft plastic. Fished the Banks all day Wednesday for only plagues of trevalley. Arrived at spot at 6am First cast hooks up to get this nice snapper. 7"gerk shad. Went 71cm 4.1kg. Stoked!! Wife also caught one at 43cm.
  12. Greg, Thanks for the tips mate, went out on Sunday and got this ripper first cast, went 71cm 4.1kg
  13. Thanks greg, i will take that onboard. Im fishing off a boat with 7ft rod, is that short of a leader any issue with fish seeing main braid line? Anyone be kind enough to tell me how deep they fish with plastics for snapper, and what size head they use, do you want the smallest possible head to get to the bottom? All of my fishing in past times has either been bait or game fishing and im really keen to get a snapper on plastic, so far ive only got red rock cod, sergents and trevalley, so any advice is much appreciated Thanks
  14. Ive been trying lately to score that big snapper on plastic. Could anyone please recommend the best way to rig my line, eg how best to tie a mono leader to brided line(small flat knot so as not to catch runners on cast), how much mono, is it best to tie a bimini twist to form a double in braid first? Would an albright knot work with braid double, do you have issues casting it through guides? Is a loop knot the best way to attach jig heat to mono? Main braid line is 20lb, would 30lb mono leader be ok?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Also Guys Regarding everyone who has electric reels, our State government in all their wisdom are looking at banning them come the next review of fish sizes etc. They say that ppl with electric reels are in effect destroying a fishery by easily being able to take too many fish. Could anyone at Fishraider start a petition to give to the Government? i contacted several members of parliament but it was around Election time and they all blew me off. I know of several members of local Game fish clubs who use them, not to mention charter boats. This has beem discussed here http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=47389 We need to make some noise here and hopefully it will turn out like the MAko thing.
  16. Hi Mark , I had a budget around the same and ended up with Miya Epoch CX15 with custom 6 foot 130lb bent butt rod. Got the reel from online shop from JApan with 1500m PE18 braid. Its an awesome reel and the extra line can come in very handy if the current is running. The set up is in the background with 19.8kg harpuka from Kiama. Definatley recommend Miya Epoch.
  17. Anyone heard anything on this subject lately??
  18. Hi Mike, your reports lately have been great, it would have been a ripper day out yestreday. How far south were the reports on the radio yesterday? I live in Shellharbour but the fish seem a long way between them. Luke
  19. As an owner of one, this issue should not be just pushed through by the "officials". I agree a petition is needed to fight this. Has any one heard of any petitions getting around for this!! As far as the use of electric reels go if youre abiding by the rules having a drop while cubing for tuna etc theres no difference to useing a hand winch as the fish still hook themselves, it just gives you time to keep your trail going. Why do the recreational fishers always get punished and the commercials guys who do all the damage get to keep raping the ocean!!!!!
  20. Hi Guys, Im going to Coffs Harbour at the end of the year on holidays, and was wondering if anyone could help me in finding some muddies? Firstly will you find then in clean water tidal creeks around mangroves close to the mouth of rivers or do you need to go upcreek a little. Secondly does anyone know of any rivers/creeks worth a try? Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers Luke
  21. Hi, Im heading up to Coffs harbour over Christmas and was wondering if any locals or anybody could help me out with some bottom fishing marks or areas to target barcod etc. When i was up there last year it was hard to get a sounder reading past the shelf, i thing maybe because it deops off so steep. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Luke
